Gender differences of anaerobic capabilities in untrained adults (비훈련 성인남여의 무산소성 운동능력 차이)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the gender differences of anaerobic capabilities between anaerobic capacity(AC) from Wingate test and anaerobic work capacity(AWC) from critical power test in untrained male and female adults. Both tests were carried out to 12 male and 13 female subjects on a Monark cycle ergometer. The results of this study demonstrated that men were higher than women in AC for the Wingate test, but no gender difference(J/kg) in AWC for the Critical Power test. There was a significant relationship between AC(J/kg) and AWC(J/kg) in women(r=0.61, p<0.05), but no significant relationship in men(r=-0.32, p>0.05). ANCOVA analyses using $VO_{2max}$ and body weight as covariates had significant influence on the AWC gender difference. The study provides preliminary data on gender differences of anaerobic capabilities.

Adaptive Writeback-aware Cache Management Policy for Lifetime Extension of Non-volatile Memory

  • In this paper, we propose Adaptive Writeback-aware Cache management (AWC) to prolong the lifetime of non-volatile main memory systems by reducing the number of writebacks. The last-level cache in AWC is partitioned into Least Recently Used (LRU) segment and LRU using Dirty block Precedence (DP-LRU) segment. The DP-LRU segment evicts clean blocks first for giving reuse opportunity to dirty blocks. AWC can also determine the efficient size of DP-LRU segment for reducing the number of writebacks according to memory access patterns of programs. In the performance evaluation, we showed that AWC reduced the number of writebacks up to 29% and 46%, and saved the energy of a main memory system up to 23% and 49% in a single-core and multi-core, respectively. AWC also reduced the runtime by 1.5% and 3.2% on average compared to previous cache managements for non-volatile main memory systems, in a single-core and a multi-core, respectively.

Comparative Analysis of Fish Fauna and Community Structures Before and After the Artificial Weir Construction in the Mainstreams and Tributaries of Yeongsan River Watershed (영산강 수계의 본류 및 지천에서 4대강 사업 전.후의 어류분포 및 군집구조 특성 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze fish fauna and species compositions along with trophic guilds, tolerance indicators, and fish community conditions before weir construction (BWC) and after weir construction (AWC) in the Yeongsan River watershed. Total 45 and 44 fish species were sampled in BWC and AWC, respectively without any distinct differences through weir constructions. Fish fauna analysis revealed that the dominant species was the same, Zacco platypus with 24.3% and 20.8% in BWC and AWC, respectively. However, the subdominant species were Carassius auratus with 8.9% in BWC but Opsarichthys uncirostris amurensis with 20.3%, almost identical that of the dominant species AWC. This phenomenon showed the distinct modification of species composition in the watershed. We sampled the $1^{st}$ class endangered species, Liobagrus obesus in tributary stream as previously reported. Also Culter brevicauda was sampled in the mainstream of Yeongsan River watershed and this was the first sampled record in this watershed. One of the most important features were an increase of exotic species, such as Micropterus salmoides and Lepomis macrochirus, with 3.2% BWC vs. 10.2% AWC as well as the increase in tolerant species with 49.2% BWC vs. 73.7% AWC, indicating ecological degradation through weir construction. Overall, our results indicated that fish fauna and composition analyses showed distinct ecological degradations related to increases of exotic and tolerant species AWC. Further long-term studies of fish monitoring should be conducted in the future to configure existent status of river conditions and to provide key information in order to conserve the healthy ecosystem.

Fundamental Properties of Antiwashout Underwater Concrete Mixed with High Reactivity Metakaloin

  • High reactivity metakaolin (HRM) is a manufactured pozzolan produced by thermal processing of purified kaolinitic clay. Field performance and laboratory research of concrete containing HRM have demonstrated its value for bridge decks, bridge deck overlays, high-strength concrete and masonry products. This paper discusses laboratory evaluations to assess the physical properties of antiwashout underwater concrete (AWC) containing HRM, such as pH value, suspended solids, slump flow, and compressive strength. There were not much variations of pH value with the changing HRM contents, but suspended solid test showed that the amount of suspended solids of AWC with 10 and 20% of HRM were reduced in comparison with plain. Due to the fast hydration and reaction property of HRM, slump flow was decreased with increasing HRM contents. According to the results of compressive strength test, AWC with 10 and 20% of HRM showed higher strength characteristic than plain at all curing ages.

  • Width variation of the top and bottom ends of steel at finishing rolling in a plate, has been investigated. It was found that width variation after finishing rolling is affected by edging, broadside rolling ratio, longitudinal rolling ratio, width shape after broadside rolling, temperature, width-to-thickness ratio, and so on. A neural network modelling of back propagation has been conducted on the width variation during rolling. Based on these prediction models, a width control system, by which the roll opening and closing of the hydraulic AWC edger can be adjusted during edge rolling in finishing rolling passes, has been developed. Compared to conventional width model, the neural network model is much accurate in a model. The width control system is applied to a newly built production mill.

  • The method of residential waste and food waste collecting is changed into automatic waste collection(AWC) system from direct collection by human resource. To solve the problem caused by odour from AWC facilities, the structure of input facilities, conveying pipes and collecting facilities have been changed into closed and sealed construction to enclosed the facilities and collect odour efficiently. Based on cases and experiences, to treat variable odour matters which are caused by food waste, chemical cleaning method is preferable method to cope with odour caused by food waste.

Fish Species Compositions and the Application of Ecological Assessment Models to Bekjae Weir, Keum-River Watershed (금강 수계 백제보에서 어류의 종 특성 평가 및 생태평가모델 적용)

  • The objectives of study were to evaluate fish species compositions of trophic guilds and tolerance guilds and apply ecological fish assessment (EFA) models to Bekjae Weir, Keum-River Watershed. The EFA models were Stream Index of Biological Integrity (SIBI) used frequently for running water and Lentic Ecosystem Health Assessment (LEHA) used for assessments of stagnant water. The region of Bekjae Weir as a "four major river project" was originally a lotic ecosystem before the weir construction (2010, $B_{WC}$) but became more like lentic-lotic hybrid system after the construction (2011, $A_{WC}$). In the analysis of species composition and ecological bioindicator (fish), fish species with a preference of running water showed significant decreases (p < 0.05), whereas the species with a preference of stagnant water showed significant increases (p < 0.05). After the weir construction, relative abundances of tolerant species increased, and the proportion of insectivores decreased. This phenomenon indicated the changes of biotic compositions in the system by the weir construction. Applications of SIBI and LEHA models to the system showed that the two model values decreased at the same time after the weir construction ($A_{WC}$), and the region became more like lentic-lotic hybrid system, indicating the degradation of ecosystem health. The model values of SIBI were 19 and 16, respectively, in the BWC and AWC, and the health conditions were both "C-rank". In the mean time, the LEHA model analysis showed that the values was 28 in the BWC and 24 in the AWC, thus the health was turned to be "B-Rank" in the BWC and "C-Rank" in the AWC. indicating a degradation of ecological heath after the weir construction.
