In this study, we investigated an inhibitory effect of AST cream on atopic dermatitis (AD) using a 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene-induced AD murine model. Topical treatment with AST cream ameliorated the severity of AD-like lesional skin through decreases in infiltration of inflammatory cells and time of scratching behaviors. Also, AST cream reduced histamine and IgE levels in serum. The protein levels of IL-4 and IL-6 in AD-like lesional skin were suppressed by AST cream. These findings suggest that AST cream would be an alternative therapeutic agent for AD-like skin diseases.

A spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of EDTA in real samples such as mayonnaise, powder detergent and cleansing cream with tiron (4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-benzenedisulfonic acid) as a fluorimetric reporter was developed. When tiron is chelated with Cu(II), the fluorescent intensity is decreased by a quenching effect. However, when Cu(II)-tiron chelate reacts with EDTA, fluorescent intensity is increased as tiron is released. Several experimental conditions such as pH of the sample solution, the amount of Cu(II), the amount of tiron, heating temperature and heating time were optimized. Fe(III) interfered more seriously than any other ions, interference of Fe(III) could be disregarded, because Fe(III) was scarcely contained in selected real samples. The linear range of EDTA was from $8.0{\times}106{-8}\;M$ to $2.0{\times}10^{-6}\;M$. With this proposed method, the detection limit of Fe(III) was $5.2{\times}10^{-8}\;M$. Recovery yields of 92.7~99.3% were obtained. Based on experimental results, it is proposed that this technique can be applied to the practical determination of EDTA.

스테로이드는 혈관 확장을 조절하여 일시적인 피부결 향상 및 미백 효과가 있으나, 장기간 사용 시 부작용이 발생하여 국내의 화장품에는 사용할 수 없는 원료로 지정 및 관리 중이며, 지속적으로 기능성 화장품에서 검출되어 회수 및 판매 중지 등과 같은 이슈가 발생하고 있다. 본 연구는 스테로이드의 종류인 히드로코르티손의 분석을 위한 인증표준물질의 개발에 목적을 두고 실험을 수행하였다. 크림형 화장품 매질의 후보표준물질을 제조하였으며 ISO Guide 35의 절차에 따라 수행하였다. 동위원소희석-질량분석법(ID-MS)을 적용하여 균질성, 단기 안정성, 장기 안정성 평가를 수행하였으며, 소급성 연결을 위해 미국국립표준기술연구소(NIST)의 일차표준물질을 사용하여 인증값을 결정하였다. 향후 KOLAS로부터 ISO 17034에 따라 인증표준물질로 인정 후 국제 표준물질 데이터베이스(COMAR)에 등록하여 국내·외 관련 산업계 및 시험기관에 보급할 예정이다.

Background: Environmental exposure is characterized by low concentration, chronic, and complex exposure. Traditional epidemiological studies show limitations in reflecting these characteristics since they usually focus on a single or very limited number of exposure factors at a time. In this study, we adopted the methodology of environment-wide association study (EWAS) to figure out the association of human liver function with various environmentally hazardous substances. Methods: We analyzed 2,961 participants from the Korean National Environmental Health Survey Cycle 4 (2018-2020). Using generalized linear model (GLM) analysis, we analyzed the association of 72 variables with 3 liver function indices (aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alanine aminotransferase [ALT], and gamma glutamyl transferase [GGT]). Finally, we visualized our results with Manhattan plot. Results: In GLM analysis, perfluorooctanesulfonate were positively associated with ALT (odds ratio [OR]: 2.2; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.39-3.46; p_adjusted = 0.0147) and perfluorodecanoic acid showed positive association with GGT (OR: 2.73; 95% CI: 1.36-5.5; p_adjusted = 0.0256). Plasma mercury showed positive association with GGT (OR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.14-1.84; p_adjusted = 0.0315). Using a plastic container while keeping food in the refrigerator was associated with elevated GGT compared to using a glass container (OR: 1.51; 95% CI: 1.16-1.95; p_adjusted = 0.0153). 2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl phthalate, showed a negative trend with all 3 indices, with AST (OR: 0.54; 95% CI: 0.39-0.73; p_adjusted = 0.00357), ALT (OR: 0.5; 95% CI: 0.34-0.75; p_adjusted = 0.036), GGT (OR: 0.55; 95% CI: 0.4-0.76; p_adjusted = 0.00697). Bisphenol S and frequent use of sunblock cream showed negative association with ALT (OR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.66-0.89), and GGT (OR: 0.25; 95% CI: 0.11-0.55), respectively. Conclusions: We conducted an exploratory study on environmental exposure and human liver function. By using EWAS methodology, we identified 7 factors that could have potential association with liver function.

Objectives: We investigated the physical effects of the cosmetics containing Ginkgo biloba. with meridian massage on human skin by using non-invasive instruments. Methods: We made cosmetics containing the extract of Ginkgo biloba. and measured physiological effects such as skin moisturization, blood flow, skin color, sebum secretion, skin evenness of volunteers applied the cosmetic products with meridian massage for 2 weeks. Results: Topical applications of w/o cream that 1 % Ginkgo biloba. was emulsified, showed significant improvement of blood flow, water contents and $L{\ast}$ value of the face skin. And the skin evenness, sebum contents and skin surface smoothness were improved after 2 weeks. Conclusions: The combination of cosmetics containing the extract of Ginkgo biloba. with meridian massage improved the physical properties of human skin during a treatment. Especially the meridian massage played a role of enhancing the effect of the cosmetics containing Ginkgo biloba.
