  • In this paper, a new algorithm for two-dimensional (2-D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is presented. By this new method, the maximum time step size can be increased over the Courant-Friedrich-Levy (CFL) condition restraint. This new algorithm is adapted from an Alternating-Direction Implicit FDTD (ADI-FDTD) method. However, unlike the ADI-FDTD algorithm. the alternation is performed with respect to the blocks of fields rather than with respect to each respective coordinate direction. Moreover. this method can be efficiently simulated with parallel computation. and it is more efficient than the conventional FDTD method in terms of CPU time. Numerical formulations are shown and simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed method.

  • In this paper. we propose a floating resistor with positive and negative resistance operating at lower supply voltages. The circuit uses only two transistors between the supply voltages. which enable to operate it at low supply voltages. Moreover. the circuit uses fewer number of transistors compared to the reported work. The gate terminal is used in this circuit for the current addition/subraction at the terminals of resistor. The characteristic of the proposed circuit is verified using HSPICE for the power supply +/-1.5V.

  • Twin Auxiliary Electrodes were applied to the counter sustain electrode structure plasma display panels for the improvement of luminous efficiency. In advanced, we investigated the spatiotemporal behaviors of excited $Xe^{\ast\ast}(2p)$ atoms in that structure unit cell with various applied voltage conditions for the auxiliary electrodes. The near-IR emissions were observed by an ICCD camera combined with narrow band pass filter. As a partial result, the intensity of IR emissions and the response time were improved with the proposed twin auxiliary electrodes.

  • New planar discharge structured AC-PDP has been developed by using TFCS (Thick Film Ceramic Sheet) technology. By applying TFCS to AC-PDP, a sustaining electrode and scanning electrodes are embedded in the TFCS. It is shown that panel performances such as electrical and optical characteristics are superior to commercialized coplanar AC-PDP as well as cost reduction. Moreover the experimental result shows panel performances can be improved drastically by continuous development.

  • Optimal routing of distribution networks can be attained by keeping the line power capacity limit to handle load requirements, acceptable voltage at customer loads, and the reliability indices such as SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, and ASAI limits. This method is composed of optimal loss reduction and optimal reliability cost reduction. The former is solved relating to the conductor resistance of all alternative routes, and the latter is solved relating to the failure rate and duration of each alternative route. The routing considering optimal loss only and both optimal loss and optimal reliability cost are compared in this paper. The case studies with 10 and 24 bus distribution networks showed that reliability cost should be considered as well as loss reduction to achieve the optimal routing in the distribution networks.

  • A stabilized incompressible smoothed particles hydrodynamics (ISPH) method is utilized to simulate free falling rigid body into water domain. Both of rigid body and fluid domain are modeled by SPH formulation. The proposed source term in the pressure Poisson equation contains two terms; divergence of velocity and density invariance. The density invariance term is multiplied by a relaxed parameter for stabilization. In addition, large eddy simulation with Smagorinsky model has been introduced to include the eddy viscosity effect. The improved method is applied to simulate both of free falling vessels with different materials and water entry-exit of horizontal circular cylinder. The applicability and efficiency of improved method is tested by the comparisons with reference experimental results.

  • We studied the attachment-repelling activity of flavonoids, stilbenes, and their glycosides against the blue mussel Mytilus edulis galloprouincialis. Molecular mechanics calculations have shown that the most stable conformations of potent repellents 29 and 32 were the same. On the basis of these results, structure-activity relationships of these compounds are discussed.
