EBS has been producing numerous educational contents with traditional virtual studio production systems since the early 2000s and applied AR video production system in October 2020, twenty-years after. Although the basic concept of synthesizing graphic elements and actual image in real time by tracking camera movement and lens information is similar to the previous one but the newly applied AR video production system contains some of advanced technologies that are improved over the previous ones. Marker tracking technology that enables camera movement free and position tracking has been applied that can track the location stably, and the operating software has been applied with Unreal Engine, one of the representative graphic engines used in computer game production, therefore the system's rendering burden has been reduced, enabling high-quality and real-time graphic effects. This system is installed on a crane camera that is mainly used in a crane shot at the live broadcasting studio and applied for live broadcasting programs for children and some of the videos such as program introductions and quiz events that used to be expressed in 2D graphics were converted to 3D AR videos which has been enhanced. This paper covers the effect of introduction and application of the AR video production system on EBS content production and the future development direction and possibility.

Nowadays, the increasing global competition forces manufacturer to reduce the cost and time for implementation of manufacturing system. The AR(augmented reality) technology as a new human-machine interface introduces a noteworthy perspective for a new manufacturing system design. Using AR technology, a physically existing production environment can be superimposed with virtual planning objects. Therefore, the planning tasks can be validated without modeling the surrounding environment of the production domain during short process planning time. In this paper, we introduce the construction of AR browser and determine the optimal environment parameters for field application of AR system through lots of tests. And, many methods such as multi-marker coordinate system, division of virtual objects and so on, are proposed in order to solve the problems suggested from initial field test. Based on these tests and results, the test-bed of C/Pad assembly system is configured and robot program for C/Pad assembly is generated based on AR system.

Objective : Immune potentiation including activation of T cells, B cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells is known to play a key role in prevention and treatment of patients with cancer. In this study, we investigated the effects of Acanthopanax sessiliflorus (AR) on the immune system, especially on thymocytes, splenocytes, and macrophages. Methods : We investigated the effects of AR on proliferation of splenocytes in normal mice, and the effects on proliferation of splenocytes and thymocytes in tumor-bearing mice. In addition, the effect of AR on NO production using macrophages was investigated. Results : Treatment with AR accelerated proliferation of splenocytes in vitro. AR also accelerated thymocyte proliferation, but did not affect splenocytes proliferation in normal mice. In contrast, AR accelerated proliferation of splenocytes and thymocytes significantly in tumor bearing mice. In addition, NO production level from macrophages was elevated by treatment with AR. Conclusion : These results demonstrate that AR has anti-cancer activities and related mechanisms are involved in immune potentiation such as acceleration of immune cell proliferation and elevation of NO production level in macrophages. In addition, we also demonstrate the possibilities of AR as complementary and alternative medicine to standard anti-cancer drugs.
Augmented reality (AR) using a head mounted display (HMD) is used in various fields such as military, medicine, manufacturing, gaming, and education. In this paper, we discuss the design and fabrication of the AR optical system, which is most essential for HMD. The AR optical system for HMD requires a wide transparent area in which the augmented image of the display and the real world can be viewed at the same time. To this end, an AR optical system was designed and manufactured by dividing it into three parts according to each characteristic. Also, the refractive index of the ultra-violet (UV) adhesive layer required to make the three optical systems into one complete AR optical system was considered from the design stage to minimize the optical path shift phenomenon when the input light source passes through the UV adhesive layer. In addition, when designing the AR optical system, two aspheric surfaces were used to compensate for off-axis aberration and to be suitable for mass production. Finally, for HMD mass production, an aspheric AR optical system with a thickness of 11 mm, a diagonal field of view of 40°, and a weight of 11.3 g was designed and manufactured.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Chronic ultraviolet (UV) exposure-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) are commonly involved in the pathogenesis of skin damage by activating the metalloproteinases (MMP) that break down type I collagen. Adenophora remotiflora (AR) is a perennial wild plant that inhabits Korea, China, and Japan. The present study investigated the protective effects of AR against UVB-induced photo-damage in keratinocytes. MATERIALS/METHODS: An in vitro cell-free system was used to examine the scavenging activity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and nitric oxide (NO). The effect of AR on ROS formation, antioxidant enzymes, elastase, MMP-1 level, and mRNA expression of MMP-1 were determined in UVB-irradiated human keratinocyte HaCaT cells. RESULTS: AR demonstrated strong DPPH free radical and NO scavenging activity in a cell-free system exhibiting $IC_{50}$ values of 1.88 mg/mL and 6.77 mg/mL, respectively. AR pretreatment dose-dependently attenuated the production of UVB-induced intracellular ROS, and antioxidant enzymes (catalase and superoxide dismutase) were enhanced in HaCaT cells. Furthermore, pretreatment of AR prevented UVB-induced elastase and collagen degradation by inhibiting the MMP-1 protein level and mRNA expression. Accordingly, AR treatment elevated collagen content in UVB-irradiated HaCaT cells. CONCLUSION: The present study provides the first evidence of AR inhibiting UVB-induced ROS production and induction of MMP-1 as a result of augmentation of antioxidative activity in HaCaT human keratinocytes. These results suggest that AR might act as an effective inhibitor of UVB-modulated signaling pathways and might serve as a photo-protective agent.

A hologram projects a 3 dimensional video as same as a real subject and it is made by principles of holography. Many researches about holographic technology have been developed. Studies for visualization of 3D videos, holographic storages, and optical media have proceeded mostly in engineering. It is hard to find any researches about the convergent system from the viewpoint of interactive elements and motion graphic design such as this paper's concept. Most studies of augmented reality have been developed in the domain of technology and education but the field of content production. AR has been convergent with various fields and media, so it is time to make an active progress in the study of convergent content development. The goal of this study is to develop cultural contents and create new values through the convergence of holography and AR. The purpose of this paper is to propose the way of developing the convergent type of cultural contents and construct the production system by the new approach to users using the convergence technology of holography and augmented reality.

Previously reported Ar/N$_2$ratios in groundwater have been measured by single ion monitoring (Barnes et al., 1975; Vogel et al., 1981; Mariotti et al., 1988). The detector geometry and flared flight tube in VG Optima isotopic ratio mass spectrometer appeared to be fortuitously aligned for the simultaneous measurement of Ar/N$_2$ratios. Method development included mechanical adjustments to optimize the mass spectrometer for Ar/N$_2$ratio measurements followed by development of a preparation system for the extraction of air-saturated water samples. Samples containing known Ar/N$_2$ratios were used to assess accuracy and precision, and to test the applicability of methods for measurements of aqueous Ar/N$_2$ratios. The results indicated that the prepared air-saturated water samples were almost identical to the predicted Ar/N$_2$ratios (p <0.001). Groundwater samples were collected from on-going research sites, Shelton and Grand Island, Nebraska. Samples from the Grand Island sludge injection site form a lower boundary for worldwide reported Ar/N$_2$ratios. These lower Ar/N$_2$ratios can be explained by the production of nitrogen gas from this site, where denitrification was reported previously.
In rumen in vitro experiments, although nitrogen gas (N2) flushing has been widely used, its effects on rumen fermentation characteristics are not clearly determined. The present study is the first to evaluate the effects of N2 flushing on rumen fermentation characteristics in in vitro batch culture system by comparing with new applicable non-metabolizable gas: argon (Ar). The rumen fluid was taken from two Korean native heifers followed by incubation for 3, 9, 12, and 24 h with N2 or Ar flushing. As a result, in all incubation time, N2 flushing resulted in higher total gas production than Ar flushing (p < 0.01). Additionally, in N2 flushing group, ammonia nitrogen was increased (p < 0.01). However, volatile fatty acids profiles and pH were not affected by the flushing gases (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that N2 flushing can influence the rumen nitrogen metabolism via increased ammonia nitrogen concentration and Ar flushing can be used as a new alternative flushing gas.
