  • The diagnostic value of a intra oral film is related to projecting technic and interpretation. The intra-oral film is a single plane representation of a three dimensional object, therefore superimposition is inevitablly present. The purpose of this article is to show how foreign objects in the jaw may be localized. The author used double exposure technics, that are changed angulation of vertical or horizontal to one film. The obtained results are as fallow: 1. In the upper anterior region, the moving distance of the labially impacted reference object was greater than that of the palatally impacted one. 2. In the upper molar region, the moving distance of the mesiobuccal root apex was the greatest and that of palatal root apex was the shortest. 3. In the lower molar region, the change of the alveolar bone level in the buccal side was greater than that of lingual side.

  • Ignition of a reactive solid with rough surface by constant heat flux is studied. The geometry of surface is represented by a protrusion in shape of cone of infinite length. Ignition time and ignition criterion versus apex angle are determined, with the use of heterogeneous model of ignition. To study the effect of geometry on ignition the results are compared with the known results for the one-dimensional ignition of the semi-infinite body. It is shown, that: a) ignition time depends strongly upon the apex angle and is proportional to the angle to the second power; b) ignition criterion and ignition temperature do not depend strongly on angle. The ignition delay and the energy required for the successful ignition are substantially reduced compared to the one-dimensional case.

  • Some fine specimens of Annulariopsis bunkeiensis were collected from two fossil sites of the Amisan Formation of Nampo Group distributed in the Jogaegol, Boryeng City, Chungnam Province. According to our detailed study from our new material, the leaves of A. bunkeiensis are not mucronate, but emarginate at their apices. Accordingly, we revised the diagnostic characters given by Kimura and Kim (1988) mainly in regard to the leaf apex.

  • The author experienced a failed ase of root resection which qas performed on the abnormal upper right lateral incisor. The patient was 16year old female. Clinically the effected tooth had neither a carious cavity nor periondontal diseases, ut, a fistula was present on the gum tissue near the root apex. The roentogenogram revealed a pathological area around the apex of the tooth. The results of failed apicoectomy lead to following conclusions. 1. The operated tooth was a case of dense invaginatus which had two pulp cavities and two canals seperated along their entire length. 2. It was the main cause of failure that the second pulp cavity and root canal were not obturated.

  • A revascularization procedure was shown to be the best alternative therapy for immature teeth with necrotic pulp and apical infection. A 12 year old female with a history of trauma to her upper central incisor and a sinus tract was referred for endodontic treatment. She was an active orthodontic patient and had undergone regenerative endodontic treatment for the past 2 years. Clinical examination revealed no response to sensibility, percussion, and palpation tests. The preoperative radiograph showed an open apex and apical rarefaction. The case was diagnosed as previously treated tooth with asymptomatic apical periodontitis. Regenerative endodontic retreatment was performed, and the case was followed for 3 years. Clinical, radiographic, and cone-beam computed tomography follow-up examination revealed an asymptomatic tooth, with evidence of periapical healing and root maturation.

  • Since Krause first described coronary arteriovenous fistula in 1865, there have been nearly 300 additional patients with this malformation reported in the literature. Increasing numbers of patients with this anomaly are being recognized each year resulting from the widespread use of cardiac catheterization and selective coronary arteriography in the evaluation of a variety of cardiac problems. A 9 month old male was admitted with the chief complaint of cardiac murmur and frequent URI and diagnosed as coronary A-V fistula at the distal portion of left anterior descending coronary artery to the apex of the right ventricle by cardiac catheterization and aortography. On the operative field, the left anterior descending coronary was markedly dilated about 1.5 cm in diameter from the aorta to the apex of the heart. The fistula opening was closed with 5-0 Prolene continuously under cardiopulmonary bypass and moderate hypothermia[28*C]. Postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged without problem.

  • The author observed thy actual position of apical foramen and the radiographic appearance of files when the files were filled through canals to the external surface of apical foramen in 280 canals of extracted teeth. All the teeth were radiographed by bisecting technic and once again Walton's projection was employed on mandibular molars. The results were as followings. 1. Sixty five percents of 280 canals were actually classed as having foramina deviant from true apex of root. 2. 160 of 280 canals(Fifty seven percents) appeared to be filled short of apex on the radiograph. 3. When Walton's projection was employed to open up two mesial canals of mandibular molars and compared to straight-on projection, twelve of 120 canals Ten percent appeared to be different in radiographic appearence.

  • The genus and species, Diekeana insignis(Gorham), is reported for the first time in Korea. Male adults were collected from Geoje Island and Changwon-si, located in the southern part of South Korea. The species of D. insignis(Gorham) is characterized by the following morphological characteristics: body length about 9.4mm; pronotum with transverse black marking in the middle part; each elytron with seven large black markings; penis long, slightly bent at apical part, truncate at apex; parameres narrow and as long as penis guide; penis guide narrow and pointed at apex. We herein provide habitus photographs, illustrations of morphological characters, male genitalia, and a detailed diagnosis. A partial sequence of the mitochondrial COI gene was obtained and provided mtDNA information for this species.

  • This study describes 6 cases of endodontic overfilling with successful clinical outcomes during long-term (up to 35 years) radiographic follow-up. Successful endodontic treatment depends on proper shaping, disinfection, and obturation of root canals. Filling materials should completely fill the root canal space without exceeding the anatomical apex. Overfilling may occur when the filling material extrudes into the periapical tissues beyond the apex. The present case series describes 6 root canal treatments in which overfilling of root canal sealer and gutta-percha accidentally occurred. Patients' teeth were periodically checked with periapical radiographs in order to evaluate the outcomes during long-term follow-up. All cases showed healing and progressive resorption of the extruded materials in the periapex. The present cases showed that if a 3-dimensional seal was present at the apical level, overfilling did not negatively affect the long-term outcomes of root canal treatment.
