Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate the effect of oriental medical treatment on adolescent structural scoliosis. Methods : A patient who has scoliosis was treated with chuna and acupuncture treatment. After the treatment, we evaluated the effects of treatment with radiological measurement by calculating the scoliosis correction angle from the initial and follow-up spine AP view. Result : After the treatment, the cobb's angle of T-spine was changed $23^{\circ}$ to $15^{\circ}$, that of L-spine was changed $25^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$. Conclusions : In this study, Chuna and acupuncture treatment was efficacious against scoliosis. And it is necessary for adolescent scoliosis patient to be more early detection, earily treated and continuous observed.

Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs), classified into three groups (group I, II, III), play a critical role in modulation of synaptic transmission at central and peripheral synapses. In the present study, extracellular field potential recording techniques were used to investigate effects of mGluR agonists on excitatory synaptic transmission at thalamic input synapses onto the lateral amygdala. The non-selective mGluR agonist t-ACPD ($100{\mu}M$) produced reversible, short-term depression, but the group III mGluR agonist L-AP4 ($50{\mu}M$) did not have any significant effects on amygdala synaptic transmission, suggesting that group I and/or II mGluRs are involved in the modulation by t-ACPD. The group I mGluR agonist DHPG ($100{\mu}M$) produced reversible inhibition as did t-ACPD. Unexpectedly, the group II mGluR agonist LCCG-1 ($10{\mu}M$) induced long-term as well as short-term depression. Thus, our data suggest that activation of group I or II mGluRs produces short-term, reversible depression of excitatory synaptic transmission at thalamic input synapses onto the lateral amygdala. Considering the long-term effect upon activation of group II mGluRs, lack of long-term effects upon activation of group I and II mGluRs may indicate a possible cross-talk among different groups of mGluRs.

An experimental investigation of the stenosis effects on the pressure drop and flow change in the internal flow is presented. Stainless steel tubes of small diameter(3.175mm, 3.4mm) are used for the test section of the flow loop. Percent contraction ranges from 35% to 83% and the stenosis length ratio (L/d) is varied from 2.8 to 8. Water and aqueous glycerol solutions are used for Newtonian fluids and polymer solutions of Separan AP-273 (500 wppm, 1000 wppm) for non-Newtonian fluids. Pressure loss coefficients of non-Newtonian fluids decrease just as those of Newtonian fluids. The loss coefficients of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids increase as the percent contraction increases and the loss coefficients of non-Newtonian fluids are larger than those of Newtonian fluids for the same stenosed tube. The loss coefficient increases as the stenosis length ratio increases.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to report that D.I.T.I. can be used for diagnosis of scoliosis. Methods: We measured the posterior trunk surface of the patients with shoulder pain or low back pain. They were ruled out as scoliosis by D.I.T.I. and compared with X-ray finding of T L-spine Ap views and calculated scoliosis angle. Results: In according to the spinoprocess curve in D.I.T.I. we could rule out as scoliosis. Thermal difference of left and right segmental areas of the patients was showed. Scoliosis angle of the patients ranged from $4^{\circ}$ to $11^{\circ}$ in X-ray finding. Conclusions: The results suggest that D.I.T.I. can explain physiologic and functional abnormalities than X-ray, in diagnosis of scoliosis. But further studies are required to for the diagnosis of scoliosis by analysing D.I.T.I..

This paper proposes a traffic-aware TXOP adjustment algorithm for the IEEE 802.11e networks. In the proposed algorithm the access point (AP) monitors the network traffics periodically and adjusts the TXOP value of the non-QoS traffic in order to improve the network throughput while maintaining the QoS of video and voice applications. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the legacy IEEE 802.11e in terms of the throughput and the fairness.
The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of cutting parameters (Vc, fz and ap) on tool life and the level of vibrations velocity in the machined part during face milling operation of hardened AISI 52100 steel. Dry-face milling has been achieved in the annealed (28 HRc) and quenched (55 HRc) conditions using multi-layer coating micro-grain carbide inserts. Statistical analysis based on the Response surface methodology (RSM) and ANOVA analysis have been conducted through a plan of experiments methodology using a reduced Taguchi table (L9) in order to obtain engineering models for tool life and vibration velocity in the workpiece for both heat treatment conditions. The results show that the cutting speed has a dominant influence on tool life for both soft and hard part. Cutting speed and feed per tooth is the most significant parameters for vibration levels. Comparing the experimental values with those predicted by the developed engineering models of tool life and levels of vibrations velocity, a good correlation has been obtained (between 97% and 99%) in annealed and hard conditions.
Children with congenital cardiac defects associated with high pulmonary artery pressure may die despite accurate surgery. Postoperative mortality and morbidity have been attributed to acute rises in pulmonary artery pressure and resistance. Acute pulmonary hypertensive crisis is defined as a paroxysmal event in which pulmonary arterial systolic pressure rises to or above systemic levels followed by a rapid fall in systemic pressure and a minor pulmonary hypertensive event is defined as an acute rise in pulmonary arterial pressure to more than 80 % of systemic levels but without a fall in systemic pressure. From Oct. 1988 to Jul. 1989, we experienced 23 patients who showed many pulmonary hypertensive crises after operation in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Seoul National University Children\ulcorner Hospital. Their preoperative PAP/SAPs were 53 to 123 %[mean 93.3%] and diagnoses were VSD[7], TAPVR[5], TGA[4], AVSD[3], MS[1], DORV[1], Truncus arteriosus[1], and AP window[l]. There were 9 deaths among 23 patients and they showed many pulmonary hypertensive crisis episodes during postoperative intensive care, which was managed by sedation, hyperventilation, oxygen, and acidosis correction and which decreased after using tolazoline. In view of our experience, we recommend that pulmonary artery pressure should be monitored in congenital heart defected patient with preoperative pulmonary hypertension to confirm and to manage the pulmonary hypertensive crisis accurately and using tolazoline is helpful in the treatment of pulmonary hypertensive crisis.

We reconstruct the expansion history of the universe using type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) in a manner independent of any cosmological model assumptions. To do so, we implement a nonparametric iterative smoothing method on the Joint Light-curve Analysis (JLA) data while exploring the SN Ia light-curve hyperparameter space by Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling. We test to see how the posteriors of these hyperparameters depend on cosmology, whether using different dark energy models or reconstructions shift these posteriors. Our constraints on the SN Ia light-curve hyperparameters from our model-independent analysis are very consistent with the constraints from using different parameterizations of the equation of state of dark energy, namely the flat ΛCDM cosmology, the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model, and the Phenomenologically Emergent Dark Energy (PEDE) model. This implies that the distance moduli constructed from the JLA data are mostly independent of the cosmological models. We also studied that the possibility the light-curve parameters evolve with redshift and our results show consistency with no evolution. The reconstructed expansion history of the universe and dark energy properties also seem to be in good agreement with the expectations of the standard ΛCDM model. However, our results also indicate that the data still allow for considerable flexibility in the expansion history of the universe. This work is published in ApJ.
Microglia, which is the primary immune effector cells in the central nervous system, constitutes the first line of defense against infection and injury in the brain. The goal of this study was to determine the protective (anti-inflammation) mechanisms of forsythia suspense (FS) on LPS-induced activation of BV-2 microglial cells. The effects of FS on gene expression profiles in activated BV-2 microglial cells were evaluated using microarray analysis. BV-2 microglial cells were cultured in a 100mm dish $(1{\times}10^7/dish)$ for 24hr and then pretreated with $1{\mu}g/mL$ FS or left untreated for 30 min. Next, $1{\mu}g/mL$ LPS was added to the samples and the cells were reincubated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, 1hr, and 3hr. The gene expression profiles of the BV-2 microglial cells varied depending on the FS. The oligonucleotide microarray analysis revealed that MAPK pathway-related genes such as Mitogen activated protein kinase 1 (Mapk1), RAS protein activator like 2 (Rasal2), and G-protein coupled receptor 12 (Gpr12) and nitric oxide biosynthesis-related genes such as nitric oxide synthase 1 (neuronal) adaptor protein (Nos1ap), and dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase 1 (Ddah1) were down regulated in FS-treated BV-2 microglial cells. FS can affect the MAPK pathway and nitric oxide biosynthesis in BV-2 microglial cells.
This paper argues that news speech entails a distinct intonational pattern from natural speech, effectively reflecting that it primarily focuses on providing new information. We conducted a phonetic experiment to compare the tonal contours between news speech and natural speech, examining the distributions of pitch accents and the overall pitch ranges. We utilized 70 American Press (AP) radio news utterances and 70 natural utterances extracted from TV dramas. Results show that news speech involves 3.38 H*'s (including L+H* and !H*) within an intonational phrase (IP) or intermediate phrase (ip) whereas natural speech, 1.8 in average. The number of IP/ip's per sentence is 3 in news speech, which is shown in the highest rate of 32.07% of the news speech, but it is merely 1, taking up the highest 41.42% in natural speech. Next, declination tends to be prevented in news speech, and the pitch range is much greater in news speech than in natural speech. Finally, a secondary stress syllable is comparatively frequently given a pitch accent in news speech, explicitly distinct from natural speech. These results can be interpreted as stating that news has the particular purpose of providing new information; every content word tends to be given a H* or its related pitch accent like L+H* or !H* because news speech assumes that every word conveys new information. This definitely brings about more IP/ip's per sentence due to a human physiological constraint; that is, more H*'s will cause more respiratory breaks. Also, greater pitch ranges and pitch accents imposed on secondary stress may be attributed to exaggerating new information.
