This paper presents an efficient approach to generate a new empirical formula to predict the axial compression capacity (ACC) of circular concrete-filled tube (CCFT) columns using the artificial neural network (ANN). A total of 258 test results extracted from the literature were used to develop the ANN models. The ANN model having the highest correlation coefficient (R) and the lowest mean square error (MSE) was determined as the best model. Stability analysis, sensitivity analysis, and a parametric study were carried out to estimate the stability of the ANN model and to investigate the main contributing factors on the ACC of CCFT columns. Stability analysis revealed that the ANN model was more stable than several existing formulae. Whereas, the sensitivity analysis and parametric study showed that the outer diameter of the steel tube was the most sensitive parameter. Additionally, using the validated ANN model, a new empirical formula was derived for predicting the ACC of CCFT columns. Obviously, a higher accuracy of the proposed empirical formula was achieved compared to the existing formulae.

Artificial neural network(ANN) models have been widely used for the classification problems in business such as bankruptcy prediction, credit evaluation, etc. Although the application of ANN to classification of consumers' choice behavior is a promising research area, there have been only a few researches. In general, most of the researches have reported that the classification performance of the ANN models were better than conventional statistical model Because the survey data on consumer behavior may include much noise and missing data, ANN model will be more robust than conventional statistical models welch need various assumptions. The purpose of this paper is to study the potential of the ANN model for forecasting consumers' choice behavior based on survey data. The data was collected by questionnaires to the shoppers of department stores and discount stores. Then the correct classification rates of the ANN models for the training and test sample with that of multiple discriminant analysis(MDA) and logistic regression(Logit) model. The performance of the ANN models were betted than the performance of the MDA and Logit model with respect to correct classification rate. By using input variables identified as significant in the stepwise MDA, the performance of the ANN models were improved.
This paper predicts the mass and the length of injection-molded products through the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method. The ANN was implemented with 5 input parameters and 2 output parameters(mass, length). The input parameters, such as injection time, melt temperature, mold temperature, packing pressure and packing time were selected. 44 experiments that are based on the mixed sampling method were performed to generate training data for the ANN model. The generated training data were normalized to eliminate scale differences between factors to improve the prediction performance of the ANN model. A random search method was used to find the optimized hyper-parameter of the ANN model. After the ANN completed the training, the ANN model predicted the mass and the length of the injection-molded product. According to the result, average error of the ANN for mass was 0.3 %. In the case of length, the average deviation of ANN was 0.043 mm.

This study deals with the application of an artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict power consumption for utilizing seawater source heat pumps of recirculating aquaculture system. An integrated dynamic simulation model was constructed using the TRNSYS program to obtain input and output data for the ANN model to predict the power consumption of the recirculating aquaculture system with a heat pump system. Data obtained from the TRNSYS program were analyzed using linear regression, and converted into optimal data necessary for the ANN model through normalization. To optimize the ANN-based power consumption prediction model, the hyper parameters of ANN were determined using the Bayesian optimization. ANN simulation results showed that ANN models with optimized hyper parameters exhibited acceptably high predictive accuracy conforming to ASHRAE standards.
In this study, we estimate the ultimate load of rectangular concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) by developing a novel hybrid predictive model (ANN-BCMO) which is a combination of balancing composite motion optimization (BCMO) - a very new optimization technique and artificial neural network (ANN). For this aim, an experimental database consisting of 422 datasets is used for the development and validation of the ANN-BCMO model. Variables in the database are related with the geometrical characteristics of the structural members, and the mechanical properties of the constituent materials (steel and concrete). Validation of the hybrid ANN-BCMO model is carried out by applying standard statistical criteria such as root mean square error (RMSE), coefficient of determination (R2), and mean absolute error (MAE). In addition, the selection of appropriate values for parameters of the hybrid ANN-BCMO is conducted and its robustness is evaluated and compared with the conventional ANN techniques. The results reveal that the new hybrid ANN-BCMO model is a promising tool for prediction of the ultimate load of rectangular CFST, and prove the effective role of BCMO as a powerful algorithm in optimizing and improving the capability of the ANN predictor.
Safety service improvement and development of efficient maintenance strategies for corroded steel structures are undeniably essential. Therefore, understanding the influence of damage caused by corrosion on the remaining load-carrying capacities such as tensile strength is required. In this study, artificial neural network (ANN) approach is proposed in order to produce a simple, accurate, and inexpensive method developed by using tensile test results, material properties and finite element method (FEM) results to train the ANN model. Initially in reproducing corroded model process, FEM was used to obtain tensile strength of artificial corroded plates, for which surface is developed by a spatial autocorrelation model. By using the corroded surface data and material properties as input data, with tensile strength as the output data, the ANN model could be trained. The accuracy of the ANN result was then verified by using leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV). As a result, it was confirmed that the accuracy of the ANN approach and the final output equation was developed for predicting tensile strength without tensile test results and FEM in further work. Though previous studies have been conducted, the accuracy results are still lower than the proposed ANN approach. Hence, the proposed ANN model now enables us to have a simple, rapid, and inexpensive method to predict residual tensile strength more accurately due to corrosion in steel structures.
Reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams are structural members that predominantly fail in shear. Therefore, determining the shear strength of these types of beams is very important. The strut-and-tie method is commonly used to design deep beams, and this method has been adopted in many building codes (ACI318-14, Eurocode 2-2004, CSA A23.3-2004). In this study, the efficiency of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in predicting the shear strength of RC deep beams is investigated as a different approach to the strut-and-tie method. An ANN model was developed using experimental data for 214 normal and high-strength concrete deep beams from an existing literature database. Seven different input parameters affecting the shear strength of the RC deep beams were selected to create the ANN structure. Each parameter was arranged as an input vector and a corresponding output vector that includes the shear strength of the RC deep beam. The ANN model was trained and tested using a multi-layered back-propagation method. The most convenient ANN algorithm was determined as trainGDX. Additionally, the results in the existing literature and the accuracy of the strut-and-tie model in ACI318-14 in predicting the shear strength of the RC deep beams were investigated using the same test data. The study shows that the ANN model provides acceptable predictions of the ultimate shear strength of RC deep beams (maximum $R^2{\approx}0.97$). Additionally, the ANN model is shown to provide more accurate predictions of the shear capacity than all the other computed methods in this study. The ACI318-14-STM method was very conservative, as expected. Moreover, the study shows that the proposed ANN model predicts the shear strengths of RC deep beams better than does the strut-and-tie model approaches.

Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a computational model inspired by the structure and operations of the brain. It is massively parallel system consisting of a large number of highly interconnected and simple processing units. The purpose of this paper is to verify the applicability of ANN to predict experimental results through the use of measured experimental data. Although there have been accumulated data based on hysteretic characteristics of structural element with cyclic loading tests, it is difficult to directly apply them for the analysis of elastic and plastic response. Thus, simple models with mathematical formula such as Bi-Linear Model, Ramberg-Osgood Model, Degrading Tri Model, Takeda Model, Slip type Model, and etc, have been used. To verify the practicality and capability of this study, ANN is adapted to several models with mathematical formula using numerical data To show the efficiency of ANN in nonlinear analysis, it is important to determine the adequate input and output variables of hysteretic models and to minimize an error in ANN process. The application example is Beam-Column joint test using the ANN in modeling of the linear and nonlinear hysteretic behavior of structure.

This paper is proposed artificial neural network(ANN) rotor resistance estimation of induction motor drive controlled by multi-adaptive fuzzy learning controller(AFLC). A simple double layer feedforward ANN trained by the back-propagation technique is employed in the rotor resistance identification. In this estimator, double models of the state variable estimations are used; one provides the actual induction motor output states and the other gives the ANN model output states. The total error between the desired and actual state variables is then back propagated to adjust the weights of the ANN model, so that the output of this model tracks the actual output. When the training is completed, the weights of the ANN correspond to the parameters in the actual motor. The estimation and control performance of ANN and multi-AFLC is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of this controller.

There are lots of combined battlefield elements which complete the war. It looks problematic when collecting and analyzing these elements and then predicting the situation of war. Commander's experience and military power assessment have widely been used to come up with these problems, then simulated combat training program recently supplements the war-game models through recording real-time simulated combat data. Nevertheless, there are challenges to assess winning factors of combat. In this paper, we characterize the combat element (ce) by clustering simulated combat data, and then suggest multi-layered artificial neural network (ANN) model, which can comprehend non-linear, cross-connected effects among ces to assess mission completion degree (MCD). Through our ANN model, we have the chance of analyzing and predicting winning factors. Experimental results show that our ANN model can explain MCDs through networking ces which overperform multiple linear regression model. Moreover, sensitivity analysis of ces will be the basis of predicting combat situation.
