For safe conservation treatment of damaged accessory relics that were unearthed, the quality of the material should be accurately identified through a nondestructive analysis and failure analysis. This study provides the basic conservational scientific data regarding material analyses and conservation treatment that were conducted for 11 relics, including amber and agate that were discovered during the repair of Geumsansa Temple's Hall of Maitreya Buddha and Left Attendant Buddhas in June 2008. An ultraviolet analysis, SEM-EDS analysis and FT-IR microscope analysis revealed that the physical and chemical characteristics of the 11 relics are the same as those of amber. It is inferred that the cracks and exfoliation of the surface of most amber relics is attributable to darkening of the color due to C=C bond oxidation. It is also assumed that cracks and exfoliation occurred from the weathered layer on the amber surface. As such, it is appropriate to engage in conservation treatment of the damaged amber relics by using $Paraloid^{(R)}$ B67 reinforcing agent that is diluted in nonpolar solvent. The greatest care is needed for future handling of organic artifacts.
The orthogonal pair of Saccharomyces cerevisiae tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase (Sc YRS) and a variant of E. coli initiator tRNA, fMam $tRNA_{CUA}$ which recognizes the amber stop codon is an effective tool for site-specific incorporation of unnatural amino acids into the protein in E. coli. To evolve the amber suppression activity of the orthogonal pair, we generated a mutant library of Sc YRS by randomizing two amino acids at 320 and 321 which involve recognition of the first base of anticodon in fMam $tRNA_{CUA}$. Two positive clones are selected from the library screening with chloramphenicol resistance mediated by amber suppression. They showed growth resistance against high concentration of chloramphenicol and their $IC_{50}$ values were approximately 1.7~2.3 fold higher than the wild type YRS. In vivo amber suppression assay reveals that mutant YRS-3 (mYRS-3) clone containing amino acid substitutions of P320A and D321A showed 6.5-fold higher activity of amber suppression compared with the wild type. In addition, in vitro aminoacylation kinetics of mYRS-3 also showed approximately 7-fold higher activity than the wild type, and the enhancement was mainly due to the increase of tRNA binding affinity. These results demonstrate that optimization of anticodon recognition by engineered aminoacyl tRNA synthetase improves the efficiency of unnatural amino acid incorporation in response to nonsense codon.

Nuclides in radioactive wastes are assumed to be transported in the geosphere by groundwater and probably discharged into the biosphere. Quantitative evaluation of doses to human beings due to nuclide transport in the geosphere and through the various pathways in the biosphere is the final step of safety assessment of the radioactive waste repository. To calculate the flux to dose conversion factors (DCFs) for nuclides appearing at GBIs with their decay chains, a template ACBIO which is an AMBER case file based on mathematical model for the mass transfer coefficients between the compartments has been developed considering material balance among the compartments in biosphere and then implementing to AMBER, a general and flexible software tool that allows to build dynamic compartment models. An illustrative calculation with ACBIO is shown.
Monochromatic amber phosphor in glasses (PiGs) for automotive LED applications were fabricated with $YAG:Ce^{3+}$, $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors and Pb-free silicate glass. After synthesis and thickness-thinning process, PiGs were mounted on high-power blue LED to make monochromatic amber LEDs. PiGs were simple mixtures of 566 nm yellow YAG, 615 nm red $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and transparent glass frit. The powders were uniaxially pressed and treated again through CIP (cold isostatic pressing) at 200 MPa for 20 min to increase packing density. After conventional thermal treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, PiGs were applied by using GPS (gas pressure sintering) to obtain a fully dense PiG plate. As the phosphor content increased, the density of the sintered body decreased and PiGs containing 30 wt% phosphor had full sintered density. Changes in photoluminescence spectra and color coordination were investigated by varying the ratio of $YAG/CaAlSiN_3$ and the thickness of the plates. Considering the optical spectrum and color coordinates, PiG plates with $240{\mu}m$ thickness showed a color purity of 98% and a wavelength of about 605 nm. Plates exhibit suitable optical characteristics as amber light-converting material for automotive LED applications.

In order to keep safe driving conditions under road networks, there are several formations such as road structure, road surface condition, traffic occupancy and supplement of an accurate information of traffic status ahead To support safe-driving on each road formation, each formation is supplied with various information to help the driver. However, in some cases like rapid status change at local-scale geography, traffic information systems often displays insufficient information because of the lack of information correlation. In order to accurately aware the driver, all road formation must be in sync. It is important to supply accurate information to the driver because this information directly impacts the drivers on the road. This paper discusses the amber information to keep the least safety driving over road formations including tunnels and bridges. This paper also will propose the informations for safe-driving conditions, information linkage on the road and rule-base safety information, as ITS technology, being displayed for all drivers under the worst weather conditions.
The contents of this paper are the effects of heat treatment on the breakdown strength of Amber Mica. In this study the breakdown strength of Amber Mica of which thickness is about 0.2-0.5(mm) was found to be raised by approximately 10% when it is heat treated at proper temperature and during suitable interval of time. Furthermore, both the heat-treatment temperature and time interval are higher and longer respectively within some extent, the more breakdown strength increasing effects are able to be expected. The results of this experiments are explained qualitively by the existence of contained gas, Hippel's breakdown theory in crystal solid insulator, and disorder of crystal structure.
The parallel multi-quantum well structures of blue and amber lights were designed and grown in metal-organic chemical vapor deposition by utilizing integration process on epitaxial layers. Samples were deposited for 5 periods-InGaN multi-quantum well layers for blue light emission and partially etched in order to regrow the 3 periods-InGaN multi-quantum wells for amber light. The blue and amber photoluminescence spectra were observed at the peak wavelengths of 475 and 580 nm, respectively. The chromatic coordinates of the white emitting diode were 0.31 and 0.34.

This study focuses on development of a risk level evaluation model for the intersection dilemma zone based on vehicle speed distribution approaching the intersection. The study results show that dilemma zone exists for all approaches selected for the study because the values of amber time have not been properly set, and that re-optimized values significantly reduce the dilemma zone risk level. It is also found that when normal distribution is assumed for vehicle approach speed the risk values similar to those for actual speed distributions can be obtained. When the risk level is found to be high, the amber time must be adjusted to reduce the length of the dilemma zone, or speed calming measures must be introduced so that vehicle speed be maintained under the speed value used when determining the amber time.
Amber has been used as gemstones and artifacts from the period of the Three Kingdoms or earlier, which are discovered in the process of excavation now. It is, however, very difficult to discuss the importing route and circulation of amber because there are no informations available on the provenance. In this study, we acquired the IR spectra of ambers originating from 5 different locations. We also monitored the change of characteristic IR peaks by artificially aging the ambers under heat, light and heat with oxygen, respectively. As the aging proceeded, the intensity of C=O band and O-H band increased, however, the bands related with C=C bond decreased. There needed some modifications in the discerning scheme because some peak disappeared with aging; yet, it was still possible to discern different ambers largely. Therefore, it is expected that the scheme can be used practically by appraising its applicability to the real amber relics excavated.
