Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes (discrimination towards HIV/AIDS and lives with HIV infected persons) and HIV/AIDS related sexual behaviors among middle school and high school students in Seoul, Korea. Methods: The population of this study was junior and senior high school students in Seoul, Korea. Eight junior high schools and eight senior high schools were randomly selected from Seoul City. Two thousand nine hundred and ninety-six responses from the sixteen schools were analyzed (fifty-nine were excluded). A self-administered questionnaire measuring socio-demographic variables, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, as well as discriminatory attitudes of HIV/AIDS was utilized. Results: The level of HIV/AIDS knowledge was low and the levels of discriminatory attitudes were high. The results indicated that students had considerable misconceptions about HIV transmission as well as stigmatizing attitudes towards HIV-infected people and their lives. The proportions of sexual intercourse were 1.3 % for middle school students and 7.7% for high school students. Only 30.7% of current sexually active subjects were to use condoms at the last step of sexual intercourse. The HIV/AIDS related risk-taking behavior were predicted by gender, school types, parents' marital status, reported academic performances, and attitudes towards to homosexuals. Conclusions: It is important to design HIV prevention strategies that improve in the knowledge of HIV transmission for adolescents in Korea.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of attitudes, stigma, and moral sensitivity of nurses toward HIV/AIDS. Methods: The participants were 530 nurses working in general hospitals in South Korea. A structured questionnaire regarding attitudes, stigma toward HIV/AIDS, and moral sensitivity was used. The data were analyzed using t-tests, ANOVAs, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Nurses' attitudes toward HIV/AIDS differed by job position; nurses' moral sensitivity toward HIV/AIDS differed by age, marital status, education level, clinical practice career, and job position; and nurses' stigma toward HIV/AIDS differed by age, clinical practice career, subjective economic status, HIV/AIDS education experience, and HIV/AIDS patient care experience. Attitudes of nurses toward HIV/AIDS were more negative when stigma toward HIV/AIDS was higher (r=-0.58, p<.001), these attitudes were not correlated with moral sensitivity. Conclusions: The attitudes of nurses toward HIV/AIDS were more negative when stigma toward HIV was higher, and these attitudes were not correlated with moral sensitivity. Therefore, nurses should be provided education that takes their age, marital status, clinical practice career, and experiences in HIV-related education and caregiving into account.
The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to High School Students' Attitudes(prejudice) toward HIV-infected classmates. 980 self-administrated questions were completed by high school male students. Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis was performed with the following independent variables: knowledge about HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention, and HIV-antibody, interests, preventive behaviors, predicting level to peer HIV-related risk behavior, knowledge about information sites, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, self-efficacy to prevention, related to AIDS/HIV, thought about premarital sexual behavior and homosexuality. The Regression Model is significant(R2=.1719, F=33.517, p<0.05) The significant factors are knowledge about HIV/AIDS transmission, intention of the preventive behaviors, knowledge of information sites, perceived severity, ideas about homosexuality, predicting level of peer HIV-related risk behavior. The results of this study provide information for effective education program development and health policy about AIDS prevention and management.
Even though the rate of infection of HIV is very low compared to other countries, data show a steady rise in HIV infection rates among young people in South Korea. A peer education program was provided to prevent the incidence of AIDS in young people. The program used peer leaders to provide AIDS related information and counseling for middle school students. Peer leaders received special training in AIDS related education and counseling to assist their friends. Peer leaders worked with their mends in one-to-one or small group settings. A pretest-posttest control design (six months after intervention) was used to evaluate the effects of the peer education program for prevention of AIDS. A post-intervention survey found that do you mean six months after the program or after six months of programs of peer program activities, the experimental groups(groups with peer educators) showed better knowledge, more positive attitudes, and less sexual activity when compared to control groups of non-participants(groups without peer educators). Peer leaders showed significant gains in knowledge about HIV transmission, more positive attitudes and self-efficacy not to engage in high-risk behaviors. Peer education was an effective tool for increasing knowledge, improving attitudes and self-efficacy, and encouraging appropriate behavior change.
This study was conducted to identify factors affecting nursing students' willingness to care for HIV/AIDS-infected patients. Data from 345 nursing students were gathered from October 14 to November 27, 2012, and analyzed by SPSS/WIN using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression. Results showed that there were significant correlations of nursing willingness with HIV/AIDS-related attitudes, stigma, prejudice, and social interaction, not with knowledge and ethical beliefs. HIV/AIDS-related attitudes and social interaction affected nursing willingness to care for patients with HIV/AIDS significantly with the explained variance of 35.5%.
This study was an evaluation study of AIDS education program. The purpose of this study was to clarify the education effects on AIDS for health care workers to develop a better next education program. This study was done by self reporting with a 67 items of structured questionnaire by 431 health care workers included doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, and health educators. Data were collected at the time of completion of each AIDS education with the help of education program manager. Both the AIDS related knowledge score and the acceptance attitudes score were significantly higher in the male group, in the medical institution employer group, in the group who have met the HIV infected person, who has known the HIV positive person, and the group of laboratory technician, but the AIDS prevention intention score was statistically higher in the group of female and laboratory technician group. The post education scores of AIDS related knowledge. acceptance attitudes, and preventive intention were statistically higher than those of the preeducation. The most increased item among AIDS prevention intention list was 'I will provide the meeting between the HIV infected persons and the public (+21.9%)'. But even the decreased item among AIDS prevention intention list was 'I will advice to female not to have extra marital sexual contact to avoid AIDS(-3.1%)'. It could be concluded that the health care workers were ignorant of vertical transmission of AIDS, they were afraid of disclosing the infection status, and have less AIDS prevention intention. Therefore it is needed to take an assessment process before each new education trategy to increase AIDS related the effect of the education on AIDS.
Although the officially confirmed incidence of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS) has remained low thus far in Korea, the progression of the pandemic has been rapid, concerned about an eventual increase in transmission. Until a vaccine or cure is found, public information and education remain an important weapon against AIDS. For the year 2000, the current WHO projection is that there will be a cumulative total of 40 million HIV infections in man, woman and children, of which more than 90% will be in the developing countries. The incerased mortality among adults and children has raised concerns that AIDS may become so devastaing as to reverse positive population growth rates and wipe out entire population. In order to plan for the rising incidence of patient with AIDS, an assessment of AIDS-related cognition and behavior, attitude of the recognized high-risk groups is necessary. Considering that undergraduates have sexuality active and more oriented toward sexual concerns than other ages. Adolescents today are more sexually involved than in the past: The media, including films, music, and television, reinforce sexual concerns by preseating images of highly sexual adolescents. Incidence of both petting and sexual intercourse in higher and occurs at earlier ages, they are important reservoir of AIDS infection. Hence, it has become important to emymerats and describe the knowledge, attitude and behavior of them, I want.. This information will eventually guide the direction of change in public policies and education programs to meet the challenges of AIDS. The objective of this study were to identity Knowledge, Attitude, Experience of Sex and AIDS in Korea. The data were collected by survey at Korean Federation for AIDS Affairs, INC. and J university, K junior college. After October in 1993, surveyed with 507 student during their's college days in Seoul. The questionnaire was designed to provide information on sex and AIDS-related knowledge and attitudes and experience. AIDS-related knowledge was measured by using 26 questions on mode of transmission and AIDS-related attitudes were measured by 7 questions, AIDS-related experience was measured by 5 questions. There were the main dependent variables in our study, In conclusion, students during their university day need to develop AIDS-preventive education programs. Clearly, the many AIDS-prevention educational effort need to be guided by well trained health agents. Financial supports from all sectors (i.e., public and private) of our society are required to achieve that end. Further researches on AIDS-related Knowledge and Attitude and behaviors of undergraduates are needed for the development of comprehensive AIDS prevention programs.

Purpose: Infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a major global threat, and although the prevalence is comparatively still very low, the number of HIV-positive Koreans is increasing. However, there are no official guidelines as to how to treat people living with HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) (PLWHA) or how to screen for potentially infectious people. This study assessed the level of knowledge and attitudes of dentists in Korea toward PLWHA, and their attitudes to screening patients for HIV infections. Methods: A cross-sectional prospective survey targeting dentists working in Korea was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: A satisfactory level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS and a relatively positive attitude toward PLWHA was found. Most of the respondents preferred rapid HIV testing using oral fluid as a specimen. The general attitude of dentists toward HIV/AIDS is sufficiently positive to enable provision of the best treatment to the patients in need. Conclusions: Most of the dentists require HIV testing in dental clinics. In spite of their needs, there are several obstacles. It is hoped that financial considerations and official legal requirements related to HIV testing strategies will be considered.
This study was designed to get basic data about AIDS educational program development of Adults. The objective of this study was to identify the level of AIDS relatied Knowledge and Attitude of Adults. The subject for this study consisted of 327 men and women who were living in chonbuk province. Data was colledted by self-reporting questionaire consist of 61 items during the period from 1st. December to 20th, December, 1996. The results were us follow ; 1. AIDS related knowledge ranged from 6 to 32(M;23.13, SD:5.86). Percentage of correctly answered respondents to each catagories ; Risk factors : $\cdot$ Infection through needle : $93.9\%$$\cdot$ Infection through blood transfusion : $92.4\%$$\cdot$ Infection of multi-sexuals : $90.5\%$$\cdot$ Infection of hemophillias patients : $39.4\%$$\cdot$ Infection of hemosexuals : $23.2\%$ Mode of transmission : $\cdot$ Infection through pubic rest room : $56.3\%$$\cdot$ Infection through personal materials: $65.1\%$$\cdot$ Infection through food: $67.6\%$ 2. The relationship between AIDS related knowledge and each of those general characteristics, AIDS related knowledge showed significant difference with age(p=0.0293), marital status(p=0.003). sexual experience(p=0.020) and used contraceptive(p=0.0l5). 3. Among the items regarding attitudes, what has highed level was preventional education of National policy about AIDS$(94.5\%)$. What has lowest level of Attitides was that AIDS carrier could go to school with noncarrier children$(39.1\%)$. 4. The relationship between attitude of AIDS and each of these general characteristics over 30 age group, married women, sexual experience and used contraceptive were higher than others.
