The automation of container terminals is an important factor that determines port competitiveness, and global advanced ports tend to strengthen their competitiveness through container terminal automation. The operational efficiency of the AGV, which is an essential transport equipment of the automated terminal, can improve the productivity of the automated terminal. The operation of AGVs in automated container terminals differs from that of conventional container terminals, as it is based on an automated system in which AGVs travel along designated paths and operate according to assigned tasks, requiring consideration of factors such as workload, congestion, and collisions. To prevent such problems and improve the efficiency of AGV operations, a more sophisticated model is necessary. Thus, this paper proposes an AGV scheduling model that takes into account the AGV travel path and task assignment within the terminal The model prevent the problem of deadlock and. various cases are generated by changing AGV algebra and number of tasks to create AGV driving situations and evaluate the proposed algorithm through algorithm and optimization analysis.
Automated Guided Vehicles are widely used as an essential material handling system for FMS to provide flexibility and efficiency. We suggest a new dispatching rule based on priority function which considers urgency and empty vehicle travel time under finite buffer capacity. We evaluate the performance of the proposed rule by comparing the performance of Shortest Travel Time/Distance(STT/D) rule in terms of machine utilization, throughput and WIP level using simulation. The simulation results show that the suggested dispatching rule is robust and provides better machine utilization, throughput with comparable WIP level compared to STT/D rule.

This paper considers the part assignment to workstations in flexible manufactuirng system (FMS). Parts are processed through several workstations according to processing order. The machines of each workstation can do multiple Processing functions. Therefore, a processing of a part can be processed in several workstations, which are non-identical in functional performance. Although a processing of a part can be processed in the multiple workstations, it has to be processed in only one among available several workstations, Parts are transported with unit load by automated guided vehicles (AGVs). The criteria of part assignment is to minimize the maximum value of the processing times of each workstation and the total transport times of vehicles. Model formulation is suggested, and numerical example is shown.
Less researches on AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle) path configurations have been conducted so far while more studies have been placed in determining AGV guide path directions and pick-up/drop-off station locations, and routing/dispatching/scheduling strategies. In practice plenty of concerns fall in preventing deadlock and simplifying AGV system control through an appropriate AGV path configuration. In order to meet those requirements, a new AGV path configuration, inter-loop stocker type is introduced here. The stocker serves as relaying material between loops as well as stocking material. Automated material handling systems using AGVs play an important role in semiconductor industry including TFT LCD and memory/non-memory chip. A practical example of implementing the inter-loop stocker concept successfully in the TFT LCD fab is presented in this paper.

Design and evaluation of AGV-based material handling systems are very complicated due to the randomness and the large number of variables involved Vehicle travel time is a key parameter for designing and evaluating AGV systems. Although loaded travel time is relatively easy to estimate, determination of empty vehicle travel time is difficult due to the inherent randomness of material handling systems. Most previous studies assume that the empty vehicle travel time is the same as the loaded travel time or assume very specific environments. This paper presents new vehicle travel time models for AGV-based material transport systems. The research effort is focused on the estimation of empty vehicle travel time under various vehicle dispatching policies. Simulation experiments are used to verify the proposed travel time models.
In this paper, we studied about AGVs modeling and material handling automation simulation using a virtual AGV. The proposed virtual AGV model that operates independently each other is based on a real AGV. Continuous straight-line and workstation model using vector drawing method that could easily, rapidly work system modeling are suggested. Centralized traffic control, which could collision avoidance in intersection and should not stop AGV as possible, and algorithm for detour routing which performs when another AGV is working in pre-routed path are proposed. The traffic control and the algorithm have been proved efficiently by simulation.
Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), which is an element of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), is a widely used material handling equipment with conveyors and Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Until now the evaluation of operational policies of AS/RS and control algorithms is done theoretically or by computer simulations. In this study, a real-time control and monitoring software of an AS/RS is also developed by making actually moving AS/RS miniature. A PC-based real-time monitoring program can control the AS/RS directly through the communication port. The monitoring program has additional functions such as storage/retrieval management, inventory management, and statistics management. The program can not only collect the necessary statistics but monitor the current action of the AS/RS concurrently.

The purpose of this paper is to improve the operation performance of unit-load Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV's) used as a carrier and mobile workstation in a flow-shop type flexible manufacturing system. An algorithm is developed to determine the optimal job sequence which minimizes the vehicle idle time on the line and the production makespan by the use of the entering interval and travel time between workcenters. An entering times of AGV's and the minimum number of AGV's required are calculated by optimal job sequence. When the numbe rof AGV's is limited, enterling times of AGV's are adjusted to maximize the efficient use of vehicles. A numerical example is given to illustrate the application of the algorithm.

The ever-glowing demands for more responsiveness and more flexibility in manufacturing generate greater expectation for the AGV system. So far. a significant amount of research has been carried out to fulfill those requirements. However, the dynamic characteristics of manufacturing systems make it hard to solve the problem analytically. In this paper, the AGV system is analyzed in the production environments which adopt a cycle time to produce materials. The use of the cycle time could eliminate much of uncertainty Inherent In the manufacturing process so that it is possible to build the deterministic model for the AGV systems, which eventually Produce better results on the important issues such as AGV dispatching, determination of the number of AGVs, and empty vehicle travel time.

본 연구는 이러한 버퍼의 특성을 분석하고 AGVS(Automated Guided Vehicle System)을 사용하는 다중셀방식의 FMS(multi-cell Flexible Manufacturing Systems) 환경에서의 버퍼관리와 관련된 기존 연구들을 검토하고, 새로운 개념의 가상시스템버퍼를 소개한다.
