원통 프런지 연삭공정의 감시/제어 시스템 (Monitoring/Control System for Cylindrical Plunge Grinding)

  • This paper presents monitoring and control system to decrease non-production time such as air grinding and partial contact in cylindrical plunge grindings. The 4-stage model of the plunge grinding process is proposed according to the state of contact between grinding wheel and workpiece; air grinding, partial contact, entire contact and spark out. Experimentally it is seen that the AE sensor and ultrasonic sensor are very effective to detect the grinding states. Monitoring and control algorithm using recognized grinding process was introduced and a experiment were conducted to verify the developed system.

선삭가공에서 공구마멸에 따른 절삭력과 AE 신호의 특성 연구 (A Study on the Cutting Resistance and Acoustic Emission Signal due to Increasing Tool Wear in Turning)

  • In order to achieve the autimation and untended system of manufacturing process, it is necessary that the monitoring system check up the disorder of machine tool or the conditions of tool wear for the maximum use of cutting tool. In the metal cutting Process, AE signal is detected by AE sensor, then amplified and transmitted to an Locan-AT. The experiment was performed to SM25C and STS304 steels at uniform feedrate, cutting speed and depth of cut, The results of experimental data apparently showed emission intensity vary due to increasing of tool wear at the 165kHz, 200kHz in the SM25C and 140kHz, 165kHz, 200kHz, in the STS304 respectively Therefore, it is possible to predict the tool wear. This study is intended to suggest the way to the automation and untended system of machine tool through the system monitoring tool wear by using AE signal.

ADI 절삭시 AE신호에 의한 플랭크 마멸폭의 인프로세스 검출 (In-Process Detection of Flank Wear Width by AE Signals When Machining of ADI)

  • Monitoring of Cutting tool wear is a critical issue in automated machining system and has been extensively studied for many years. An austempered ductile iron(ADI) exhibits the excellent mechanical properties and the wear resistance. ADI has generally the poor machinability due to the characteristic. This paper presents the in-process detection of flank wear of cutting tools using the acoustic emission sensor and the digital oscilloscope. The amplitude level of AE signal(AErms) is mainly affected by cutting speed and it is proportional to cutting speed. There have been the relationship of direct proportion between the amplitude level of AE signals and the flank wear width of cutting tool. The flank wear with corresponding to the tool life is successfully detected with the monitor-ing system used in this study.

엔드밀 가공시 절삭력과 절삭유를 통해 전파된 음향방출을 이용한 공구파손 검출 (Tool fracture detection in end milling using cutting force and acoustic emission propagated through cutting fluid)

  • End milling experiments are conducted to investigate characteristics of acoustic emission (AE) and cutting force singals due to tool fracture. The AE signals are obtained with a sensor attached to cutting fluid discharge nozzle. Tool states are identified with scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy. It is demonstrated that the AE signals provide reliable informations about the cutting processes and tool states. Morever, tool fracture can be detected successfully using both the AE count rate and the standard deviation of principal cutting force.

  • 회전 기계의 저어널 베어링 상태를 음향 방출(AE) 기술을 활용하여 감시하기 위한 진단 시스템을 개발하였다. AE 기술은 베어링 시스템에 있어서 비정상 상태를 탐지하기 위하여 이용된다 모의 저어널 베어링시스템을 이용한 실험과 실제 발전 설비에 대한 적용 시험의 결과로부터 AE 신호 파라메타 중에서 rms voltage가 가장 유효한 것으로 판명되었으며, 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 하여 진단 시스템의 알고리즘과 판단 기준들이 설정되었다. 베어링 진단 시스템은 AE 센서 및 전치앰프로 구성된 신호 감지부, AE rms voltage를 측정하기 위한 rms-to-DC 변환 회로부로 구성된 신호 처리부, A/D 변환기를 이용하여 rms voltage 신호를 PC에 연결해 주는 인터페이스부, 베어링 상태 보기와 진단 프로그램을 포함하는 그래픽 디스플레이 및 소프트웨어부의 4부분으로 구성된다.

AE에 의한 압력용기의 안전성평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Monitoring of Pressure Vessel Safety during Hydrotest by Acoustic Emission)

  • The behaviour of pressure vessel made of SS41 steel was investigated during hydrotest. AE tests were carried out for the vessels in as-manufactured, V-notched and weld-cracked state using microcomputer-based AE instrumentation. The following results were obtained: 1) In the case of source location using cylindrical program, to minimize the error of source location, the difference of max. Delta T values measured from each sensor should be kept as small as possible. 2) When crack grew, AE event rate increased continuously but AE event from the inclusions occurred intermittently, so by analyzing event rate, the source of AE could be derived. 3) From the spot welding part of supporter, many events with low energy occurred independent of Kaiser effect, which could be confirmed by analyzing energy parameter. 4) The b-value from the tensile specimen of was lower than that from normal specimen and the b-value from crack propagation was lower than that from deformation, so by analyzing peak amplitude distribution, the source mechanism could be derived from the b-value.

AE센서를 이용한 숫돌의 수명판정 및 드레싱시간의 결정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Determination of Grinding Wheel Life and Dressing Time Using AE Sensor)

  • The grinding operation is an important machining process for machining of final surface. However, grinding process has inevitable troubles such as loading and glazing for grinding wheel. It is, therefore, an essential research theme to determine the wheel life and the dressing time for efficient grinding. In this study, AE signals (AEavg) generated in the grinding operation were measured and the dressing time was determined from the analysis of the AEavg value. To verify the propriety of the obtained result, the AE signals measured on the grinding and the dressing operation were compared with the grinding force signals and the dressing force which were measured at same time. From the obtained result, it was confirmed that the determination of the wheel life and the dressing tilde by the AE measurement technique proposed in this study can be practically used.

  • In this research, damage behavior of singly oriented ply (SOP) fiber metal laminate (FML) subject to concentrated load was studied. The static indentation tests were conducted to study fiber orientation effect on damage behavior of FML. During the static indentation tests, Acoustic Emission technique (AE) was adopted to study damage characteristics of FML. AE signals were obtained by using AE sensor with 150kHz resonance frequency and the signals were compared with indentation curves of FML. As fiber orientation angle increases, the crack initiation load of SOP FML increases because the stiffness induced by fiber orientation is increased. The penetration load of SOP FML is influenced by the deformation tendency and boundary conditions. Cumulative AE counts were well predicted crack initiation and crack propagation and AE amplitude were useful for prediction of damage failure mode. During the matrix cracking, fiber debonding and fiber breakage, AE amplitude has $45{\sim}60dB,\;60{\sim}80dB\;and\;90{\sim}100dB$, respectively.

마모 입자가 음향방출신호에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Investigation of the Effect of Wear Particles on the Acoustic Emission Signal)

  • In spite of progress in tribological research, machine component failure due to friction and wear has been reported frequently. This failure may lead to secondary damage that can cause huge expense for maintenance and repair. To prevent economic loss, it is important to detect and predict the initial failure point. In this sense, various researchers have been tried to develop Condition Monitoring (CM) method using Acoustic Emission (AE) generated while the materials undergo failure. In this study, effect of particles on friction and wear was investigated using the pin-on-plate friction test and AE signal was recorded with a band-width type AE sensor. The experiments were performed in dry and lubricant conditions using steel and glass as specimens. After the experiment, 3D laser microscope image was captured to evaluate the wear behavior quantitatively. The AE signal was analyzed in time-domain and frequency-domain. The amplitude was compared with the frictional results. The results of this study showed that particle generation accelerate wear, generate high magnitude AE signal and change the frequency characteristics of the signal. Also, lubricant condition test results showed low coefficient of friction, low wear rate, and low magnitude of AE signal compared to the dry condition. It is expected that the results of this study will aid in better assessment of wear in CM technology
