In a previous study, we analyzed the transcriptome of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans using next-generation sequencing technology and identified several antimicrobial peptide candidates. One of the peptides, scolopendrasin V, was selected based on the physicochemical properties of antimicrobial peptides using a bioinformatics strategy. In this study, we assessed the antimicrobial activities of scolopendrasin V using the radial diffusion assay and colony count assay. We also investigated the mode of action of scolopendrasin V using flow cytometry. We found that scolopendrasin V's mechanism of action involved binding to the surface of microorganisms via a specific interaction with lipopolysaccharides, lipoteichoic acid, and peptidoglycans, which are components of the bacterial membrane. These results provide a basis for developing peptide antibiotics.
Purpose: This descriptive study aimed to compare the perception of the acceptable foods for the neutropenic diet between nurses and patients by food type. Methods: The participants were 225 nurses working at chemotherapy wards and 71 patients in chemotherapy treatment. Data were collected with a self-administered questionnaire from January 2 to February 24, 2012, and analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program using descriptive statistics and the ${\chi}^2$-test. Results: Eighty-eight point eight percent of nurses and 76.1% of cancer patients thought the patients needed the neutropenic diets. The most important decisional criteria to determine dietary restriction was neutrophil count for nurses and food type for patients. The two groups showed significantly different allowance to raw fruits and raw vegetables, sterilized canned juice, fried vegetables, yogurt, uncooked tofu, salted fish, cooked fish, cooked shellfish, uncooked grain powder, jellified food, home-made bread/cookies, nuts including peanuts, instant coffee or tea and tea brewed. In general, patients were more permissive about the neutropenic diet than nurses. Conclusion: It is recommended to consider patients' preference as well as nurses' professional knowledge and publish standardized clinical diet guidelines for neutropenic patients with collaboration between nurses and patient representatives.

The embedded processor market has grown rapidly and consistently with the appearance of mobile devices. In an embedded system, the power consumption and execution time are important factors affecting the performance. The system performance is determined by both hardware and software. Although the hardware architecture is high-end, the software runs slowly due to the low quality of codes. This study compared the performance of two major compilers, LLVM and GCC on a32-bit EISC embedded processor. The dynamic instructions and static code sizes were evaluated from these compilers with the EEMBC benchmarks.LLVM generally performed better in the ALU intensive benchmarks, whereas GCC produced a better register allocation and jump optimization. The dynamic instruction count and static code of GCCwere on average 8% and 7% lower than those of LLVM, respectively.
The effects of DFMO or/and putrescine on the dexamethasone-induced apoptosis of CEM cells were studied to investigate the role of polyamines in anti-leukemic glucocorticoid action. Dexamethasone- induced apoptosis was preceded by significant decreases of cellular polyamine contents and putrescine uptake activity. But DFMO produced decreases of putrescine and spermidine contents and marked increase of putrescine uptake activity, but did not induce apoptosis. However, dexamethasone and DFMO, respectively, induced $G_1-arrest$ in cell cycle and hypophosphorylation of pRb, resulting in the increase of $G_1$ to S ratio and decrease of CEM cell count. DFMO enhanced the dexamethasone-induced apoptosis and $G_1-arrest$. On the other hand, putrescine little affected the apoptotic and $G_1-arresting$ activities of dexamethasone, but almost suppress the effects of DFMO and also the DFMO-dependent enhancement of dexamethasone effects. These results suggested that the dexamethasone-induced apoptosis to be associated with pRb hypophosphorylation and $G_1-arrest$ in CEM cells might be ascribed to the concomitant decreases of cellular polyamine contents and putrescine uptake activity.

There are the fault tolerance technology and the fault avoidance technology to analyze and evaluate the performance of computer system. To improve the relibility of software The N-Version Programming (NVP) technology is known to be the most objective and quantitive. However, when discrete probability distribution is used as estimation model, the values of it's component reliability should be same. In this paper, to resolve this problem, we adapted the genetic algorithms to NVP technology and implement the optimized simulate. and the results were analyzed and estimated. Through this study, we could optimize the reliability of each component and estimate the optimum count in the system reliability.

A basic experiment was performed to control tile plant growth using acoustic emission technique considering the environmental conditions for plant. At a dry soil condition, the signals due to the cavitation from xylem of angiosperm and gymnosperm were mainly detected. The strong signal from xylem and the weak signal from plasmodesmata and casparian strip were detected at the same time after distilled water was provided. Two signals after providing tile acid and distilled water were contrary to each other. The wind, number of leaf, music, temperature and humidity affected the acoustic emission count from plants but the frequency ranges of the detected signals were the same.

Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) has been used as a major treatment strategy for hematological malignancies. The number of CD34 positive cells in the harvested product is a very important factor for achieving successful transplantation. We studied the factors that can predict the number of CD34 positive cells in the harvested product of acute myelocytic leukemia (AML), multiple myeloma (MM) and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) patients after mobilizing them with chemotherapy plus G-CSF. A total of 73 patients (AML 19 patients, MM 28 patients, NHL 26 patients) with hematological malignancies had been mobilized with chemotherapy and granulocyte colony-stimulating growth factor from April, 2000 to February, 2012. Group's characteristics, checkup opinion of pre-peripheral blood on the day of harvest & outcome of PBSC were analyzed and evaluated using SPSS statistics program after grouping patients as below; group 1: CD34 cell counts < $2{\times}10^6/kg$ (n=16); group 2: $2{\times}10^6/kg{\leq}CD34$ cell counts < $6{\times}10^6/kg$ (n=32); group 3: CD34 cell counts ${\geq}6{\times}10^6/kg$ (n=25). We analyzed the clinical characteristics, the peripheral blood (PB) parameters and the number of CD34 positive cells in the PB and their correlation with the yield of CD34 positive cells collected from the mobilized patients. The total number of leukapheresis sessions was 263 (mean: 3.55 session per patient), and the mean number of harvested CD34 positive cells per patient was $7.37{\times}10^6/kg$. The number of CD34 positive cells in product was significantly correlated with the number of platelet and CD34 positive cells in peripheral blood (P<0.05). The number of PB CD34 positive cells was the best significant factor for the quantity of harvested CD34 positive cells on the linear regression analysis (P<0.05). Many factors could influence the mobilization of peripheral blood stem cells. Platelet count and PB CD34 positive cells count were the two variables which remained to be significant in multivariate analysis. Therefore, the number of platelet and CD34 positive cells in peripheral blood on the day of harvest can be used as an accurate predictor for successful peripheral blood stem cell collection.

Background : Evidence-based guidelines are now used for enteral nutrition(EN) in neurosurgical intensive care unit patients who mostly depend on EN. This study compared and analyzed the nutritive conditions of patients before and after they underwent guideline based nutritional interventions in order to determine whether using these guidelines improved their calorie supply. Methods : Data on the patients' nutritional requirements, maximum calorie supply through EN, serum albumin level, and total lymphocyte count were collected and analyzed using SAS version 9.1.3. All the statistical analyses were performed at a significance level of P<0.05. Result : The maximum calorie supply through EN was $923.1{\pm}359.7$ kcal before the intervention and $1254.4{\pm}196.3$ kcal after the intervention; this difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The ratio of nutritional requirements to maximum calorie supply through EN was $55.5{\pm}22.4%$ and $74.2{\pm}13.9%$ before and after the intervention, respectively; this difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). This indicates a 19% increase in the ratio after the nutritional intervention. The serum albumin level also significantly increased from $2.7{\pm}0.6g/dL$ before the intervention to $3.2{\pm}0.4g/dL$ after the intervention(P<0.05). The total lymphocyte count slightly increased from $1267.7{\pm}728.2cells/mm^3$ before the intervention to $1801.9{\pm}1211.5cells/mm^3$ after the intervention; this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion : The results showed that using the evidence-based feeding guidelines for interventions increased the calorie supply and improved the patients' nutritive conditions from moderate malnutrition to mild malnutrition.
In this research, to modernize traditional food and to make functional bokryung-byung, bokryung-byungwas made with Poriacocos Wolf powder added. During its storage, its moisture content ranged from 42.89 to 44.85%. The control group had the highes tmoisture content (44.85%), and it was reduced significantly as the Poriacocos Wolf powder in creased. The longer the storage period was, the lower the pH and the higher the acidity was. The total bacterial count increased from 2.70 to 3.00 Log CFU/g right after the manufacture and increased rapidly on the fourth day of the storage with more than 7.00 Log CFU/g. There was no difference between the control group and the bokryung-byung, though. The Hunter's color value after the manufacture, with the increase in the added Poriacocos Wolf powder, showed a significantly reduced brightness, but significantly increased redness and yellowness. Their chromaticity did not change, how ever, during their storageat a temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. The hardness, solidity, gumminess, and cohesiveness of the bokryung-byung increased, unlike in the control group, and its brittleness increased. In terms of the overall preference, the preference for the control group was high, but was higher when 5 % Poria cocos Wolf powder was added during the manufacture of the bokryung-byung. As a result of these correlations, it is believed that elastic and chewy dduks are preferred and bokryung-byungs could be developed as functional dduks.

This paper is to investigate the effect of corrosion by acoustic emission method in tensile loading and the adhesiveness between substrate and coating layer. The powders used are Zn and Amdry625, respectively. They are coated on brass alloy substrate. AE signals of Zn and Amdry625 coating layer increase drastically in strain $2\%$. However, those of Zn specimen have more than those of Amdry625 specimen. When the specimens executed the corrosion test under $3.5\%$ NaCl solution for 500, 1000 hours, the salt solution penetrated into the surface of the substrate through the pores of the coating layer. As a result, corrosion production formed on the surface of the substrate. The adhesiveness between coating layers is weakened by the polarization and corrosion itself. The AE event, count, and energy of corroded coating specimens decrease, compared to specimens without corrosion. The results are summarized as follows : 1. In the tensile tests, the time that it took to start and develop the cracks and exfoliations between the surface of the substrates and the plasma spray coatings were different according to the type of plasma sprayed material, which are Zn and Amdry625. These phenomena were obvious at the strain rate 1 to $5\%$, and few available data were found after that stage. 2. The specimens with Zn coating showed the characteristics of crack, according to the changes of the tensile strength applied on the substrates while those with Amdry625 showed exfoliation as a result of low adaptation to the tensile strength. 3. The anti-corrosion specimens showed that the adhesive properties between the substrate and the plasma spray coating were strong in the order of Zn, Amdry. It showed that Corroded specimens cracked or exfoliated easily, even with the small energy, because those had a comparatively weakened adhesive property, due to corrosion. 4. Zn specimen showed no corrosion phenomena on the surface of the substrates, because they had the function of sacrifice anode however, Amdry625 specimen showed the corrosion, because it did not have that function.
