A phytosociological study of forest vegetation of Mt. Kaya was carried out from August 1988 to September 1992. The forest vegetation of the area was classified into 3 communities (Quercus monogolica community, Lindera erythrocarpa community, Pinus densiflora community) and 3 subunits (Rhododendron mucronulatum subunit, Platycarya strobilacea subunit, typical subunit of Pinusdensiflora community). The Pinus densiflora community was located at the lower altitudes (100~300m) than those of other communities. The Lindera erythrocarpa community was located at the upper altitude (500m). Most of the inverstigated area were occupied by the secondary forest of Pinus densiflora community in the actual vegetation map and the profile diagram, suggesting that it was frequently destroyed by human interference
Vegetation structure and sediment properties were investigated in the Wondong wetland of the Nakdong-gang, Yangsan-city, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. The vegetation type was classified into eleven communities based on the actual vegetation map: Miscanthus sacchariflorus community, Salix nipponica community, Phragmites communis community, Zizania latiofolia community, Trapa japonica community, Hydrilla verticillata community, Hydrocharis dubia community, Digitaria sanguinalis community, Nelumbo nucifera community, Phragmites japonica community, and Salix matsudana for. tortuosa community. Among them, Distribution area of Miscanthus sacchariflorus community was largest as 12.4 ha (36.3%). The dominant vegetation type was Miscanthus sacchariflorus community based on phytosocialogical method, and it was classified into two subcommunities; Persicaria maackiana - Miscanthus sacchariflorus subcommunity and Hydrilla verticillata - Miscanthus sacchariflorus subcommunity. Ranges of the sediment properties such as pH, conductivity, organic matter, total nitrogen, and available phosphorus were 4.9~6.2, $23{\sim}423{\mu}mho/cm$, 0.37~11.16%, 0.02~0.36% and 0.14~0.38mg/100g, respectively. Percentages of the partical size of the sediment such as clay, silt, and sand were 5.0~27.0%, 6.7~31.3%, and 46.7~88.3%, respectively.
Vegetation structure was investigated in the Hwapo wetland around the Nakdong-gang, Gimhae-city, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea from May to August, 2001. The vegetation type was classified into 18 communities based on the actual vegetation map: Phragmites communis community, Miscanthus sacchariflorus community, Salix nipponica community, Echinochloa crus-galli var. frumentacea community, Zizania latiofolia community, Cyperus amuricus community, Spirodela polyrhiza community, Trapa japonica community, Phragmites communis-Miscanthus sacchariflorus community, Salix nipponiaz-Misaznthus sacchariflorus community, Cyperus amuricus-Acorus calamus var. angustatus community, Salvinia natans community, Hydrilla verticillata-Spirodela polyrhiza community, Persiazria maackiana community, Trapa japonica-Salvinia natans community, Hydrilla verticillata community, Potamogeton crispus community, and Populus deltoides community. Among them, Phragmites communis community was the largest (34.9 ha, 29.53%). The dominant vegetation type was Persiazria hydropiper - Persicaria maackiana community based on the phytosociological method, and it was classified into four subcommunities: Phalaris arundinacea-Salix nipponica subcommunity, Miscanthus sacchariflorus subcommunity, Phragmites communis subcommunity, and Spirodela polyrhiza subcommunity, and Acorus calamus var. angustatus group belongs to Miscanthus sacchariflorus subcommunity.
The purpose of this study is to investigate a vegetation structure around Tongdosa temple forest and provincial park and to provide preliminary data. In order to look over the vegetation status, an actual vegetation map was drawn around study area. Vegetation structure survey was carried out for 6 representative communities of actual vegetation which were Quercus variavilis community, Carpinus tschonoskii community, Pinus densiflora community, P. densiflora-Broadleaf deciduous Forest community, Q. mongolica community and Broadleaf deciduous Forest community. The area of the Tongdosa district measured $29,202,262m^2$. Actual vegetation type were divided into 35 types, and the ratio of Q. variavilis community was 32.35 % ($9,447,932m^2$). To investigate the structure of 6 representative communities, 58 plots were set up and unit area plots measured $100m^2$. The estimated age of the forest is 50~100-years-old and the oldest tree P. densiflora is 113-years-old.
This research aims at having a grip on the actual condition of vegetation distribution Byeonsanbando National Park and to propose a survey and drawing criteria for vegetation map. Thus, this research conducted a survey of the vegetation distribution on Byeonsanbando National Park through review of the literatures on vegetation surveys on the National Parks in the past and at the present and preparing criteria for survey and drawing of vegetation. The actual vegetation of Bye on san ban do National Park was classified into eight plant communities and other land; the Substitution forest, or natural forest was classified into four plant communities including Quercus variabilis community, deciduous forest, Pinus densiflora community, and mixed forest while afforested land was classified into four forest types: P. rigida forest, P. thunbergii forest, P. rigida forest, P. rigitaeda forest, P. rigida - thunbergii forest, etc. The area belonging to grade 7 in Nature Degree was found to be the largest, covering 69.1% in Byeonsanbando National Park while the area belonging to grade 9 was very rare, covering 0.36%. Thus, it is suggested that criteria for survey and drawing map needed for the systematic survey and management of vegetation in National Parks.
Daehuksan Island (125°23'-125° 28' E and 34°37'-34°42' N, ca 19.7㎢) in the southwestern part of Mokpo, Korea, is a part of the Dadohae National Marine Park. Most of the actual vegetation of the island is substitutional vegetation under various human impact such as grazing, cutting for firewood. And natural vegetation is partially distributed in the tutelary shrine forests, deep valleys, etc. During 1987, phytosociological investigation of this was carried out on the basis of Braum-Blanguet's method. The forest vegetation was classified into 1 association and 7 communities, Camellia japonica, Machilus thunbergii, Ardisio-Castanopsietum sieboldii, Daphniphyllum macropodum-Quercus acuta, Pyrrosia lingua-Pinus densiflora. Rhododendron mucronulatum-Pinus thunbergii, Carpinus coreana, and Psedosasa japonica community. Grassland vegetation was classified into Gleichenia japonica, Gleichenia dichotoma, Arundinella hirta-Miscanthus sinensis, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis. Imperata cylindrica var. koenii Artemisia princeps var. orientalis-Pennisetum alpecuroides, Carex boottiana, and salt marsh vegetation. Thypa orientalis, Spergularia marina, Phragmites communis, Carex scabrifolia, and Triglochin maritimum community. Based on them, the actual vegetation map was made in 1:50,000 scale.

This paper describes the species composition of the remnant forest vegetation (Natural Monument No. 65) in the Mok-do island of Ulsan city and its relation to ecological long-term monitoring. Syntaxonomical classification and actual vegetation map were depicted in very fine scale 1:800 for better understanding spatial distribution and vitality of individual trees and communities. A total of 111 species and 13 plant communities occurred on the 19,166 ㎡ area. Evergreen broad-leaved forest of Machilus thunbergii is a representative vegetation type, which covers 37.4% of the island area. Evergreen coniferous forest of Pinus thunbergii covers 18.6% of the island. These two forests occurred at different parts of the island, i.e., the former at the rearward and the later at the frontward of island against marine. 95.7% of trees analysed was determined as critically and absolutely monitored individuals. From a conservation perspective the Mok-do vegetation is extremely vulnerable, which must be long-termly monitored using an assessment of tree vitality and a fine scale map of vegetation.
The entire land of Southern Iran faces problems arising out of various types of land degradation of which vegetation degradation forms one of the major types. The present work introduces a model developed for assessing the current status of hazard of vegetation degradation using Geographic Information System (GIS). This kind of assessment differs from those assessments based on vulnerability or potential hazard assessments. The Sadra watershed which covers the upper reaches of Marharlu basin, Fars Province, has been chosen for a hazard assessment of this type of degradation. The different kinds of data for indicators of current status of vegetation degradation were gathered from collecting of field data and also records of the governmental offices of Iran. Taking into consideration three indicators of current status of vegetation degradation the model identifies areas with different hazard classes. By fixing the thresholds of severity classes of the three indicators including per cent of vegetation cover, biomass production and ratio of actual biomass to potential biomass production, a hazard map for each indicator was first prepared in GIS. The final hazard map of current status of vegetation degradation was prepared by intersecting three hazards in the GIS. Results show areas under severe hazard class have been found to be widespread (89 %) while areas under moderate and very severe hazard classes have been found less extensive in the Sadra watershed. The preparation of hazard maps based on the GIS analysis of these indicators will be helpful for prioritizing the areas to initiate remedial measures.
The flora and vegetation of Jindo Archipelago were investigated from 1985 to 1989. In the area, 1089 species, 3 subspecies, 133 varieties, and 22 forma of vascular plants were recovered. From the data, the ecological characteristics such a value 1.39 in Pte-Q and Ch-$D_1-R_3$-e in biological type were recognized. Vegetation of the area is classified into 8 communities: Pinus thunbergii-, Quercus serrata-, Q. variabilis-, Carpinus coreana-, Prunus sargentii-, Camellia japonica-, Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii and Q. acuta-community. The actual vegetation map was conducted with the materials obtained by the investigation of the vegetation in 103 area.
A phytosociological study of the forest vegetation was carried out in Mt. Chongok and Mt. Tuta from June, 1992 to August, 1993. The forest vegetation was classified into 1 order, 2 alliances, 1 suballiance and 4 communities; Vaccinium hirtum v. koreanum-Quercus monogolica community, Carex humilis v. nana-Pinus densiflora community, Sasa borealis-Carapinus laxiflora community, Plectranthus inflexus-Quercus variabilis community. Actual vegetation map was drawn in 1:25,000 scale.
