The extremely halophilic archaebacterium Haloarcular sp. EH-1 was isolated from solar salts. Haloarcular sp. EH-1 accumulated poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate) (PHA) as intracellular granules. PHA production in batch culture have been studied. The PHA was identified as poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid-co-3-hydroxyvaleric acid) (PHB/HV) of 3-hydroxybutyric acid and 3-hydroxyvaleric acid by the analysis of GC, IR and NMR. The melting temperature of PHB/HV was 152.46$^{\circ}C$, viscosity was 1.25 ㎗/g, and molecular weight was $1.44 X 10^5.$
Sulfadiazine and silver sulfadiazine are well-known bactericidal agent routinely used clinical settings. Antimicrobial acid dyes were synthesized by introducing sulfadiazine or silver sulfadiazine and applied on nylon fabric. The Chemical Structure of the Synthesized dyes was identified by HPLC-mass. The dyeability of synthesized acid dyes for nylon fabric was similar to commercial acid dyes. Resistance to washing, rubbing and lightfastness were good. Nylon fabrics dyed with synthesized acid dyes had good antimicrobial properties. Durable antimicrobial properties after 20 times washing have shown good result that reduction ratio of colonies, is 99.9 %. Mixed dyeing were carried out using commercial acid dyes(leveling type) and synthesized dyes. The mixed dyeings have also shown good antimicrobial properties.
The fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) in ground water is highly affected by the distribution and property of the carbonaceous materials (CMs) in subsurface sediments. CMs in soils consist of organic matters (e.g., cellulose, fulvic acid, humic acid, humin, etc.) and black carbon such as char, soot, etc. The distribution and property of CMs are governed by source materials and geological evolution (e.g., diagenesis, catagenesis, etc.) of them. In this study, the distribution and property of CMs in subsurface sediments near the Imjin river in the Republic of Korea and HOC sorption property to the subsurface sediments were investigated. The organic carbon contents of sand and clay/silt layers were about 0.35% and 1.37%, respectively. The carbon contents of condensed form of CMs were about 0.13% and 0.45%, respectively. The existence of black carbon was observed using scanning electron microscopes with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The specific surface areas (SSA) of CMs in heavy fraction(HFrCM) measured with N2 were $35-46m^2/g$. However, SSAs of those HFrCM mineral fraction was only $1.6-4.3m^2/g$. The results of thermogravimetric analysis show that the mass loss of HFrCM was significant at $50-200^{\circ}C$ and $350-600^{\circ}C$ due to the degradation of soft form and condensed form of CMs, respectively. The trichloroethylene (TCE) sorption capacities of sand and clay/silt layers were similar to each other, and these values were also similar to oxidzed layer of glacially deposited subsurface sediments of the Chanute Air Force Base (AFB) in Rantoul, Illinois. However, these were 7-8 times lower than TCE sorption capacity of reduced layer of the Chanute AFB sediments. For accurate prediction of the fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants in subsurface sediments, continuous studies on the development of characterization methods for CMs are required.

In this research we extracted water-soluble collagen peptide from flatfish skin and compared it with commercially available collagen peptide extracted from Tilapia scale currently placed on the market in the aspect of physiochemical property. The physical property and nutritional components of FSCP appeared almost similarly to those of TSCP, and also in calorie, FSCP marking 3.82 Kcal showed no differences from TSCP marking 3.84 Kcal. As for forming amino acids, in aspartic acid, serine, histidine, tyrosine, methionine, FSCP had higher content than TSCP, but in OH-proline, proline and alanine FSCP had lower content than TSCP. Especially the content of essential amino acids of FSCP marked 22.74% with a higher content compared with 13.64% of TSCP. In the distribution of molecular weight FSCP with 1,000 Da showed comparatively low compared with TSCP, and in emulsion property and stability FSCP and TSCP showed similar excellent trend.
Acryl binder is a representative organic additive for the manufacture of the display electronic equipment. Acryl binder is usually synthesized by radical copolymerization. Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), and methacrylic acid (MAA) were used in this copolymerization of acryl binder. In this study the silane type mercaptane compound was used as a chain transfer agent (CTA) to enhance the adhesion property of the acrylic binder. The CTA used in this experiment was (3-mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane (MPTMS). Molecular weight of the copolymer, thickness of the coating, transmittance, and adhesion property were measured. The molecular weight was controlled and the adhesion property was improved by using this silane type chain transfer agent.
Decorative property of chromium deposition from oxalic acid bath containing chromium oxide and ammonium sulfate, has been examined over a wide range of bath compositions and plating conditions. The followings were determined as optimum bath composition, $CrO_3\;200{\sim}250g/{\ell},\;H_2C_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O\;500{\sim}700g/{\ell},\;(NH_4){_2}SO_4\;40{\sim}120g/{\ell}$, and operation conditions; pH $2.0{\sim}2.5$, current density of $15{\sim}250Adm^2 $ at the bath temperatures of $30{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. Bright chromium deposits were obtained over a wide range of ammonium sulfate concentration, bath temperature, and current density. The current efficiency decreased with increasing current density and bath pH, and increased with Increasing bath temperature. The highest current efficiency was obtained in the bath containing $80g/{\ell}$ of ammonium sulfate. Bright chromium deposits were not obtained at conditions of all the highest current efficiencies.

This study is concerned with the property changes(chemical and mechanical) of the used oil in diesel engine, which were sampled from a test engine with dynamometer and various cars. The properties of oil are TAN, viscosity, oxidation, ZDTP depletion factor and etc. Also the relation between the change of chemical and antiwear property of used oil was strongly related to ZDTP depletion factor as wall as the change of TAN(total acid number), sulfation and pentan unsoluble contents which were reated to the formation of protect film in sliding area. The oil used in pick-up(small) truck engine was deteriorated within the shortest distance than that of other cars. The antiwear property of used oil was decreased sharply as the running distance were over 5,000km. The oil used to mini bus was the least to deteriorate of properities for the funning distance.
A curd yogurt was prepared from milk added with skim milk powder of four kinds of cereal. The effect of cereals at 2%(w/v) level on acid production by lactic acid bacteria in milk was investigated. The effect of cereals on quality of curd yogurt (apparent viscosity, sensory property) was also examined. Addition of cereals markedly stimulated acid production by lactic acid bacteria. Among three organisms tested, L. acidophilus produced more acid than others. Apparent viscosity of curd yogurt added with corn was the highest while that with barley was the lowest. Curd yogurt fermented with L. acidophilus showed characteristics of thioxotropic flow. Apparent viscosity of curd yogurt added with cereal markedly increased between 6 and 24 hours of fermentation. Sensory property of curd yogurt added with wheat was judged as better than reference sample, but that with barley was lodged as the worst among all samples.

A bioassay-guided fractionation of the whole extract of Viscum album var. coloratum Ohwi (Loranthaceae) led to the isolation of two triterpenoidal components; oleanolic acid (1) and ${\beta}-amyrin$ acetate (2), and a flavonoid, homoflavoyadorinin B (3) as well as large quantity of free fatty acid mixtures as active ingredients of the extract responsible for the antitumoral property. The EtOAc soluble fraction and BuOH soluble fraction of the extract demonstrated a significant inhibition on the proliferation of cultured human tumor cells such as A549 (non small cell lung), SK-OV-3 (ovary), SK-MEL-2 (melanoma), XF498 (central nerve system), and HCT-15 (colon) in vitro, whereas the remaining water soluble fraction exhibited a poor inhibition. The intensive phytochemical investigation of the EtOAc soluble fraction and BuOH soluble fraction of the extract indicated that the oleanolic acid (1) and large amounts of free fatty acid mixtures might be attributed to the in vitro antitumoral property of the whole extract of Viscum album var. coloratum.
Biodiesel is non-petroleum based fuel produced from vegetable oils or animal fats through transesterification. The compositions of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids in the feedstocks are important factors for biodiesel quality in terms of low-temperature fluidity and oxidative stability. The goal of this study is to improve the cold flow property of biodiesel from vegetable and animal origin containing highly saturated methyl esters (approx. 50%). In this purpose poly-saturated methyl esters in palm and tallow biodiesel were removed via urea-based fractionation and then the recovered fractions (enriched unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters) were supplemented with cold flow improvers. The highest concentration of unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters (93.8%) was obtained using a urea/fatty acid ratio of 3:1 at the crystallization temperature of $0^{\circ}C$ for 17 hours in incubation, with recovery of 71% and the addition of cold flow improver (Flozol$^{(R)}$ 515, 3,000 ppm) to the enriched poly-unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters reduced the CFPP(cold filter plugging point) of palm biodiesel from $12^{\circ}C$ to $-42^{\circ}C$. In tallow biodiesel both the enrichment of unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters (93.71%) and the addition of cold flow improver (Infineum R408, 3,000ppm) reduced the CFPP from $10^{\circ}C$ to $-32^{\circ}C$.
