The subjects were 370 of 4th and 6th grade in elementary school and the second grade in junior high school in Busan and their's mothers. The instruments used for this study were learned helplessness scale, stress scale, self-perception profile for children, and childrearing attitude scale. The data was analyzed with pearson's correlation, multiple regression and path analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows : 1. Children's stress, global self-worth, academic and social self predicted children's learned helplessness. 54% of the variance of children's learned helplessness was explained by these variables. 3. 1) Global self-worth was the first contribution and had a indirect effect through stress as well as a direct effect on children's learned helplessness. 2) Children's stress and academic self had direct effect on children's learned helplessness. 3) Children's social self had a indirect effect through stress as well as a direct effect on children's learned helplessness. 4) Mother's affectionate childrearing attitudes had indirect effect through academic, and social self and global self-worth on children's learned helplessness. Mother's controlling childrearing attitudes had indirect effect through stress on children's learned helplessness. Children's age had a indirect effect through global self-worth and stress and children's sex had a indirect effect through social self on children's learned helplessness.

Self-efficacy of the subjects was positive correlation with learning flow(r=.574, p<.001), resilience(r=.525, p<.001), and negative correlation with academic stress(r=-.262, p<.001). Resilience of the subjects showed positive correlation with learning flow(r=.325, p<.001) and negative correlation with academic stress(r=-.291, p<.001). Learning flow showed negative correlation with academic stress(r=-.211, p<.001). Factors influencing the self-efficacy of the subjects were identified as academic commitment (β=.442, p<.001) and resilience (β=.363, p<.001) and the explanatory power was 45.6%. However, there were significant negative correlations between economic status and stress and between subjective health status and stress. For girls, age had positive correlations with academic achievement, the age of drinking onset, BMI, and stress and economic status had positive correlations with academic achievement, the age of smoking initiation, and subjective health status. Also, the age of smoking initiation had positive correlations with the age of drinking onset and BMI. Lastly, there were negative correlations between age and economic status, between age and subjective health status, academic achievement and the age of smoking initiation, economic status and stress, and subjective health status and stress. Generally younger children tended to adjust better socially than older children. As children grew older they used more and more defensive strategies to cope with everyday stress. Also older children showed more withdrawn behavior and aggressive behavior than younger children. As anticipated children who used more defensive coping strategies were reported to have more behavior problems, showed poorer social adjustments and academic achievements. Children who used more active coping strategies, on the other hands, were reported to haute less behavior problems, adjusted better socially and had better academia achievements. Stress was significantly different according to grade (F=7.30, p<.001), economic state (F=14.39, p<.001), perceived health state (F=6.66, p<.001). In regression analysis, stress for college life, perceived health state, and college life satisfaction were significant predictors of adjustment to college life explaining 68%.
