  • We have clearly investigated with respect to the survival of the insulator at cryogenic temperature under the electrical stress. The breakdown and voltage-time characteristics of turn-to-turn models for point contact geometry and surface contact geometry using copper multi wrapped with polyimide film for an HTS transformer were investigated under AC and impulse voltage at 77 K. Polyimide film (Kapton) 0.025 mm thick is used for multi wrapping of the electrode. As expected, the breakdown voltages for the surface contact geometry are lower than that of the point contact geometry, because the contact area of the surface contact geometry is lager than that of the point contact geometry. The time to breakdown t50 decreases as the applied voltage is increased, and the lifetime indices increase slightly as the number of layers is increased. The electric field amplitude at the position where breakdown occurs is about 80 % of the maximum electric field value. The relationship between survival probability and the electrical stress at cryogenic temperature was evident.

  • At the neutral sections, There are neutral sections inserted in overhead contact line between the substations to divide different phase current sections of AC electrified lines. except convention line, a large stress occurs in the contact wire near the fittings under passing pantographs. So, in order to raise the train speed over 150km/h, a new type section has been adopted.

  • This paper presents prediction of insulation lifetime in stress. Essentially, Epoxy resin, when it was subjected to different types of aging condition, produced to varieties of electrical properties and lifetime using spectroscopy and breakdown test. The relationships between the structural and electrical changes of aged epoxy were Investigated.

  • Pure barium titanate was sintered at $1340^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4, 8, 16 hr to control their grain size. The measurements of breakdown strength and partial discharge characteristics were performed under rising AC voltage(60Hz). With increase of sintering time, the average grain size was increased and breakdown strength was slightly decreased. Partial discharge in pores was observed under high voltage, and a model of dielectric break down in barium titanate ceramics is proposed.

  • This paper discusses several electrical properties of tape-type insulation impregnated with liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) in superconducting cable. Synthetic polypropylene laminated paper has been tested for its short-term breakdown strength and partial discharge(PD) characteristics under AC voltage. furthermore, the effect of winding parameter on breakdown strength, PD incepti on and extinction electrical stress with different test samples are discussed.

  • A single-stage power factor correction AC/DC converter with a simple link voltage suppressing circuit (LVSC) for the universal line application is proposed. Using this simple circuit a low link voltage can be realized without deadbands at line zero-crossings. The proposed converter is analyzed and a prototype converter with 5C, 12V output is implemented to verify the performance. The experimental results show that the link voltage stress and efficiency are about 447V and 81%, respectively.

  • Power conversion system of high performance requires high switching frequency power converter. In order to minimize commutation stress and switching losses, in this paper, AC-DC converter is embedded a partial resonant DC-Link circuit with the object of ZVCS(zero voltage switching and zero current switching). The partial resonant occurs just before converter switch operates. Thus, VA ratings of the elements and their dissipations due to effective series resistance (ESR) are very low. Some simulative results on computer are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.

  • In this study, we have constructed a measuring system to investigate tensile stress of tendons, which is employed in bridges, by means of the magnetic non-destructive testing (NDT) method. For the twisted 7-strands tendon, we have used Wiedemann effect. An ac current was applied to the tendon and voltage induced from Search Coil on Tendon (SCT) under applying tensile stress was measured. The measuring system consists of tensile stress applying apparatus up to 2 GPa, and ac current supply to apply current to the tendon directly to magnetize the tendon. We have invested two kinds of tendon which were produced by different companies for testing with constructed measuring system. Voltage induced from SCT was decreased up to 1.5 GPa linearly and two kinds of tendon which were produced by different companies shows similar trends. Thus, Wiedemann effect was also applicable to measure tensile stress of tendon by means of magnetic NDT.
