  • SAMSUNG Electronics has developed a SCAR.A robot system, SM3, which is applicable to several assembly, inspection, and adjustment tasks. This robot system drives by AC servo motors has attained a .theta.1 and .theta.2 axis maximum composite speed of 5.4 m/sec, a repeatability of .+-.05 mm, and a cycle time of 1.2 sea. The robot controller based on three 8086 and one 8087 processors consists of the main controller, the joint position controller, and the motor controller. The robot controller has plentiful self-diagnosis and control capabilities, and can be interfaced to other external device. The robot language FARAL Is designed such that every task is easily programmed. In this paper, the main features of the body, controller, and FARAL of SM3 will be described. In particular, the control method designed for a stable and fast robot motion will be explained. Finally, the future development will be addressed.

  • Power converters are widely used in the applications of servo drives of ac and dc motors and power supplies. For the control of the converters carious control algorithms have been proposed and realized by gating signal generation. Software control shemes are being applied to implement the control algorithms, but analog circuits are still used for the gating signal generation because it requires very fast and precise timing. In this paper the gating signal generation with DSP software are proposed for the three phase to three phase PWM converter. Design procedures and software flowcharts are presented and some experimental waveforms are also presented to verify the proposed algorithms.

  • This paper presents the three section sliding mode control algorithm based on variable structure current controller design in a synchronous frame and indirect field oriented control method, and applies it to the position control of induction motor. This control scheme solves the problem of robustness loss during the reaching phase that occurs in a conventional VSC strategy, and ensures the stable sliding mode and robustness enhancement throughout an entire response. As the performance of a VSI fed induction motor drives depends on the characteristics of inner loop current controller, it is desired that the current controller have the fast tracking and robust nature. Therefore, we introduced the voltage mapping table based on the concept of voltage space vector for variable structure current control, and implemented fully digital control system using 16-bit microcontroller with on-chip peripherals without additional processing circuits. Simulation and experimental results confirm the validity of this control scheme for robust AC servo drive system of VSI fed induction motor.

  • The errors generated from current measurement paths are inevitable, and they can be divided into two categories: offset error and scaling error. The current data including these errors cause periodic speed ripples which are one and two times the stator electrical frequency respectively. Since these undesirable ripples bring about harmful influences to motor driving systems, a compensation algorithm must be introduced to the control algorithm of the motor drive. In this paper, a new compensation algorithm is proposed. The signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is chosen and processed to compensate for the current measurement errors. Usually the d-axis current command is zero or constant to acquire the maximum torque or unity power factor in the ac drive system, and the output of the d-axis current regulator is nearly zero or constant as well. If the stator currents include the offset and scaling errors, the respective motor speed produces a ripple related to one and two times the stator electrical frequency, and the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator also produces the ripple as the motor speed does. The compensation of the current measurement errors is easily implemented to smooth the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator by subtracting the DC offset value or rescaling the gain of the hall sensor. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has several features: the robustness in the variation of the mechanical parameters, the application of the steady and transient state, the ease of implementation, and less computation time. The MATLAB simulation and experimental results are shown in order to verify the validity of the proposed current compensating algorithm.
