This paper describes an extension or a pair or multiple load flow solutions and nose curve method developed for voltage stability analysis or AC power systems to AC/DC systems. In this approach the converters are regarded as voltage dependent loads. Assuming that the converters at the unstable (-mode) solution consume the same power equal to the power at the stable (+mode) solution, the unstable solutions or the nose curves arc determined. This method is very efficient since estimating voltage collapse point and voltage stability margin arc determined by a few iterations of multiple load flow solutions. Also the method has the advantages that since the structure or Jacobian matrix is same with that of AC load flow, modal analysis or voltage stability is readily applicable if desired.
A parallel-feeding AC traction power system increases the power supply capacity and decreases voltage fluctuations, but the circulating power flow caused by the phase difference between the traction substations prevents the system from being widely used. A circuit analysis shows that the circulating power flow increases almost linearly as the phase difference increases, which adds extra load to the system and results in increased power dissipation and load unbalance. In this paper, we suggest a phase shifter for the parallel-feeding AC traction power system. The phase shifter regulates the phase difference and the circulating power flow by injecting quadrature voltage which can be obtained directly from the Scott-connection transformer in the traction substation. A case study involving the phase shifter applied to the traction power system of a Korean high-speed rail system shows that a three-level phase shifter can prevent circulating power flow while the phase difference between substations increases up to 12 degrees, mitigate the load unbalance, and reduce power dissipation.
This paper is the transient analysis for choosing the optimal SCR ratings of AC3 utilization category testing equipment(AC3 TE) used for electrical durability test for magnetic switch according to IEC60947-4 Annex B by utilizing EMTP -ATPDraw. Magnetic contactor closes and opens the motor load with ON/OFF switch of electronic contactor. It is also used for protecting and controlling the load. Magnetic contactor detects the over-current flow in the load with a over-current relay and disconnects the load by opening its control power. The key cost of AC3 TE is the SCR ratings. The more decreases SCR ratings, the more decreased the cost is, but it is impossible to ensure the reliability. On the other hand, the more increases SCR ratings, the more increased the cost is. Thereupon, in this paper after the testing circuit is simulated by using EMTP-ATPDraw the SCR ratings will be applied in order to guarantee the testing reliability of PT&T(Power Testing and Technology institute in LG Industrial Systems Co.,Ltd.).
In case the fault occurs in AC power supply network, protective relaying system must selectively detect line-to-line/ground fault and immediately cut off the power flow into the fault location for guaranteeing the safety of people, electric vehicle and ground installation etc. It is the most important point in power system operation to minimize the fault duration by rapid trip scheme and accurate estimation of the fault location. In this paper, we analyze the load characteristics of each vehicle, perform the fault analysis of AC power supply network using AT current-ratio method. The result shows its usefulness.

This paper presents a study performed to investigate the steady-state operational strategies of UPFCs in the Jeollanam-Do system in Korea. The objective of the study was to determine the UPFC operating points under normal and contingency conditions. The study consists of developing load flow models to simulate different load levels with and without UPFCs in the system, assessing the effectiveness of UPFCs by contingency analysis, and introducing optimal corrective actions for removing voltage problems caused by contingencies. The paper describes analytical tools, models and approach. It also includes analysis and discussion of the study results. The paper contributes to the area of transmission operational studies with FACTS applications.
In this paper, analysis and control design of ac-dc converter, normally nonlinear time-varying system, using sliding mode controller to achieve fast output voltage response, disturbance rejection and robust system in the presence of load variation are demonstrated. The objective of this method is to develop methodology for output voltage to be constant and input current sinusoidal that results in nearly unity power factor, respectively. In addition the converter can be also bidirectional power flow. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink show the effectiveness of sliding mode control system compared with linear feedback controller to guarantee enhanced PF>0.98, THD<5%, and ripple output voltage is less than 1% at the maximum output power.
In this paper, we propose a new AC-DC converter control method to comply with harmonics regulation(IEC 61000-3) effective for the inverter system of an air conditioner whose power consumption is less than 2,500W. There are many different ways of AC-DC converter control, but this paper focuses on the converter control method that is adopting an input reactor with low cost silicon steel core to strengthen cost competitiveness of the manufacturer. The proposed control method controls input current every half cycle of the line frequency to get unit power factor and at the same time to reduce switching loss of devices and acoustic noise from reactor. This kind of converter is known as a Partial Switching Converter(PSC). In this study, theoretical analysis of the PSC has been performed using Matlab/Simulink while a 16-bit micro-processor based converter has been used to perform the experimental analysis. In the theoretical analysis, electrical circuit models and equations of the PSC are derived and simulated. In the experiments, micro-processor controls input current to keep the power factor above 0.95 by reducing the phase difference between input voltage and current and at the same time to maintain a reference DC-link voltage against voltage drop which depends on DC-link load. Therefore it becomes possible to comply with harmonic regulations while the power factor is maximized by optimizing the time of current flow through the input reactor for every half cycle of line frequency.
Recently construction of new transmission line is getting harder because of social hostility to transmission tower. Howevere, load is converged in metropolitan area and power plants near this area are old and life of generator will end soon. Therefore, power to supply load in this area should be transmitted from east coast area and southern area. For these reasons, securement of transmission capacity without new transmission line construction is important. In this paper, effect of one circuit AC line change to DC transmission at the same transmission tower on the system available transfer capacity is analyzed.
The problem of the heat flow in the Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(SPMSM) at various load condition is solved by use of the thermal equivalent network method. For the correction of the, design parameters of SPMSM and for the exact analysis of several characteristics, the iterative method combining the characteristics analysis and the thermal analysis. Then the analyzed results and the measured data are compared.
