Selection of the optimal inductance for power factor improvement of a buck AC/DC light-emitting diode (LED) driver with wide input voltage range is described in this study. The power factor change based on the slope compensation is obtained for various normalized output current (NOC) values using discrete-time domain analysis. The possibility of implementing constant slope compensation is described using power factor curves for various NOC values. NOC = 0.5 is chosen for the value of inductance with consideration for the simple implementation and reduction of inductor size. Experimental results of the inductance corresponding to NOC = 0.5 are presented.

In this study, a driver IC for an AC-powered LED that can be manufactured with a low voltage semiconductor process is designed and the performances of the driver IC were simulated. In order to manufacture a driver IC that operates directly at AC 220V, a semiconductor manufacturing process that satisfies a breakdown voltage of 500V or higher is required. A semiconductor manufacturing process for a high-voltage device requires a much higher manufacturing cost than a general semiconductor process for a low-voltage device. Therefore, the LED driver IC is designed in series so that it can be manufactured with semiconductor process technology that implements a low-voltage device. This makes it possible to divide and apply the voltage to each LED block even if the input voltage is high. The LED lighting circuit shows a power factor of 96% at 220V. In the pnp transistor circuit, a very high power factor of 99.7% can be obtained, and it shows a very stable operation regardless of the fluctuation of the input voltage.

A new single-stage flyback power converter with PFC for electrolytic capacitor-less LED driver is proposed in this study. This method minimizes the peak-to-average ratio of the LED driving pulsating current by adding the LED driving current near the LED current valley area, as well as the third harmonic component injection into the input current. The reduced peak current value of the LED drive current minimizes the thermal stress of the LED itself, thereby increasing the reliability of the LED, as well as achieving a long lifetime. Simulation and experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed topology.

In this paper, we have studied to minimize the lifetime and fault occurrence of LED fixtures, which have a short lifetime and frequent faults. In the current LED chip, the lifetime is semi-permanent, but compared to the lifetime of the LED chip, Drivers do not last long. In recent years, low-priced LED illuminators such as those from China have entered the market, and many consumers are perceiving LED illuminators. In order to solve these problems, we designed an LED illuminator of 25W class by using AC Direct IC, which has a longer lifetime than the conventional driver, by removing the electrolytic capacitor in the LED driving driver which is the cause of the failure.

In this paper, we develop a explosion-proof LED lighting (Ex circuit) circuit of Explosion-proof LED Signal Lamp (Ex LSL) to utilize the core module of the explosion-proof Local Control System (Ex LCS) for offshore plant applications. And then analyzed its electrical, optical and thermal characteristics. Ex circuit was applied input voltage from AC/DC(12~254) V. In this experiments, stable light-on characteristics were confirmed by eyes for the every input voltages with min. 78,462 and max. $517,975cd/m^2$ of luminance. also Output current and output luminance was made proportional. Because the measured maximum surface temperature of Ex circuit was $54.23^{\circ}C$ at AC 48 V, Ex circuit was rated with T6 of temperature class. Finally, Ex circuit was shown stable light on characteristics under the $-50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ during 12 hours of test period.

This paper describes a control method to minimize the filter capacitor of a PFC AC/DC converter for LED driver. The rectified secondary voltage of the transformer has 120Hz ripple unlike the conventional converter for the LED drive. Therefore, the filter capacitor can be minimized and this provides reduced cost, low switching loss, and long life of the converter.
