  • Multilevel inverters (MLIs) have been preferred over conventional two-level inverters due to their inherent properties such as reduced harmonic distortion, lower electromagnetic interference, minimal common mode voltage, ability to synthesize medium/high voltage from low voltage sources, etc. On the other hand, they suffer from an increased number of switching devices, complex gate pulse generation, etc. This paper develops an ingenious symmetrical MLI topology, which consumes lesser component count. The proposed level dependent sources concoction multilevel inverter (LDSCMLI) is basically a multilevel dc link MLI (MLDCMLI), which first synthesizes a stepped dc link voltage using a sources concoction module and then realizes the ac waveform through a conventional H-bridge. Seven level and eleven level versions of the proposed topology are simulated in MATLAB r2010b and prototypes are constructed to validate the performance. The proposed topology requires lesser components compared to recent component reduced MLI topologies and the classical topologies. In addition, it requires fewer carrier signals and gate driver circuits.

  • This paper presents a filter analysis of conducted Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) in switching power converters (SPC) based on noise impedances. The EMI characteristics of SPC can be analytically deduced from a circuit theoretical viewpoint. The analytical noise model is investigated to get a full understanding of the EMI mechanism. It is shown that with suitable and justified model, filters pertinent to EMI noise is investigated. The EMI noise is identified by time domain measurements associated with an isolated half-bridge ac-dc converter. Practical filters like LC filter, ${\pi}$ filter and complete EMI filters are investigated. The proposed analysis and results can provide a guideline for improving the effectiveness of filtering schemes in SPC. Experimental results are also included to verify the validity of the proposed method. The results obtained satisfy the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) class A and class B regulations.

  • Because of the continuous growth of energy consumption, and also the tendency to site power lines and pipelines along the same route, the close proximity of power lines and metallic pipelines has become more and more frequent. Therefore, there has been and still is a growing concern about possible hazards resulting from the influence of power lines on metallic pipelines. This paper calculates the induced voltage of the pipeline which has the same right-of-war with 154kV and 22.9kV power cables in a tunnel. And propose the best phase order to minimize the induced voltage.

  • PWM controlled line-side converters of modern ac traction locomotives inject harmonic currents into the feeding overhead line. This causes problem of electromagnetic interference. Passive and Active filters are usually provided for a reduction of the line harmonics. Active filters are more reasonable than passive filters in terms of weight and space of the filters. Successful control of active filters requires an accurate harmonic current reference. A technique to generate the harmonic current reference is proposed in this paper. The analysis is performed in frequency domain and its effectiveness is verified by simulation.

  • Bimodal tram has a carbody made of polymer composite material which is good electrical insulator. As an series hybrid type, Alternating voltage generated from generator coupled with CNG engine are rectified and transformed to variable voltage ranges which are applied to electrical apparatus and ECUs equipped inside of the tram. The failures of electrical insulation between high voltage($400V{\sim}800V$) and low voltage(24V) or between different kind of voltages such as AC and DC may cause some electrical interferences to prevent from operating rightly and other safety problem. This paper have investigated about the degradation factors of the electrical insulation and the earthing method available to bimodal tram, which is effective for preventing the electromagnetic interference coming from the inside or outside of tram but need some detecting measurements of earth leakage through electrical systems.

  • As a stringing troy wire is installed by manual operation, it is necessary to scheme the automatic system for stringing troy wire. To accomplish a task of this kind, in this paper an approach to designing controllers for the hybrid Position/Tension control of a stringing troy wire is presented. Position control system is designed based on equation of dc motor and motion equation of robot, it is controlled by feedback with a detected speed dc motor. Tension control system is designed based on equation of ac servomotor for generating torque and dynamic equation of a troy wire, it is controled by feedback with a detected tension. The control parameters is determined by simulation in independence operation of each system. To suppress a mutual interference that the disturbance occur in operating of two task at same time. Dynamic hybrid control is proposed by feed forward compensator with a disturbance accelerator and a step torque at start. The operation of proposed system is simulated and experimented, results is verified the utilities.

  • This study has been conducted to monitor the corrosion rate of cathodically protected structure and corrosion inhibited system using multi-line thin-film electrical resistance (TFER) sensor in various environments. The field test data of TFER sensor for the corrosion monitoring of cathodically protected underground pipeline in soil environments and of corrosion inhibited gas heaters were also presented. The sensor was found to be a powerful method to commit the sensitive pick-up of small corrosion rate which can be observed in the cathodically protected and corrosion inhibited systems.

  • The switching-mode power converter has been widely used because of its features of high efficiency and small weight and size. These features are brought by the ON-OFF operation of semiconductor switching devices. However, this switching operation causes the surge and EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) which deteriorate the reliability of the converter themselves and entire electronic systems. This problem on the surge and noise is one of the most serious difficulties in AC-to-DC converter. In the case of carrier frequency selection, output-voltage of steady state and transient state is fully regulated. A RPWM control method was proposed in order to smooth the switching noise spectrum and reduce it's level. Experimental results are verified by converter operating at 300V/1kW with 5%${\sim}$30% white noise input. Spectrum analysis is performed on the Phase current and the CM noise voltage. The former is measured with Current Probe and the latter is achieved with USN. which are connected to the spectrum analyzer respectively.

  • Offline switching Power supplies have high voltage and high current switching waveforms that generate Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) in the form of both conducted and radiated emissions. Consequently, all off-line power supplies must be designed to attenuate or suppress EMI emissions below commonly acceptable limits. Electrodeless fluorescent lamp's ballasts have AC/DC flyback converter, so we must control the EMI emissions.
