High Efficiency Inverter System by Partial Resonant Method (부분공진기법에 의한 고효율 인버터 시스템)

  • A large number of soft switching topologies included a resonant circuit have been proposed. But these circuits increase number of switch in circuit and complicate sequence of switching operation. In this paper, the authors propose power conversion system, DC-AC inverter of high efficiency and high power factor with soft switching mode by partial resonant method. The switching devices in a proposed circuits are operated with soft switching by the partial resonant method, that is, PRS2MPC (Partial Resonant Soft Switching Mode Power Converter). The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. And the snubber condenser used in partial resonant circuit makes charging energy regenerated at input power source for resonant operation.

An Efficient Architecture of Transform & Quantization Module in MPEG-4 Video Codec

  • In this paper, a VLSI architecture for transform and quantization module, which consists of 2D-DCT, quantization, AC/DC prediction block, scan conversion, inverse quantization and 2D-IDCT, is presented. The architecture of the module is designed to handle a macroblock data within 1064 cycles and suitable for MPEG-4 video codec handling CIF image formats. Only single 1-D DCT/IDCT cores are used for the design instead of 2-D DCT/IDCT, respectively. 1-bit serial distributed arithmetic architecture is adopted for 1-D DCT/IDCT to reduce the hardware area in this architecture. As the result, the maximum utilization of hardware can be achieved, and power consumption can be minimized. The proposed design is operated on 27MHz clock. The experimental results show that the accuracy of DCT and IDCT meet the IEEE specification.

  • Zero-voltage and zero-current switched single-stage approach with high power factor is presented to reduce the switching losses and to achieve sinusoidal, unity power factor input currents. This single-stage approach, which combines a boost converter used as PFC with a half-bridge converter used as do to do conversion into one power stage, has a simple structure and low cost. At the same time, since the switches of the proposed converter are designed to be turned on at zero-voltage and off at zero-current, the switching losses could be reduced considerably. Detailed analysis and experimental results are presented on the proposed converter, which is operated at constant switching frequency and in discontinuous conduction mode.

  • A current controlled VSI-PWM rectifier and inverter with capacitor dc link is regarded as one of the most promising structures for three-phase to three-phase to three-phase power conversion. This type of converter normally requires twelve switches for a rectifier and inverter composed of self turn-off switch such as a bi-polar transistor or IGBT with an anti-parallel diode. In this paper, a new three-phase to three-phase converter for ac motor drives is proposed. The proposed converter employs only eight switches and has the capability of delivering sinusoidal input currents with unity power factor and bidirectional power flow. This paper describes the feasibility and the operational limitations of the proposed structure. A mathematical model of the system is derived using generalized modulation theory and experimental results for steady state and dynamic behavior are presented to verify the developed model.

  • In recent years, the multilevel converters have been given more attention due to their modularity, reliability, failure management and multi stepped output waveform with less total harmonic distortion. This paper presents a novel symmetric multilevel inverter topology with reduced switching components to generate a high quality stepped sinusoidal voltage waveform. The series and parallel combinations of switches in the proposed topology reduce the total number of conducting switches in each level of output voltages. In addition, a comparison between the proposed topology with another topology from the literature is presented. To verify the proposed topology, the computer based simulation model is developed using MATLAB/Simulink and experimentally with a prototype model results are then compared.

  • This paper deals with a $3{\phi}$ rectifier unit for telecommunication system. The rectifier unit is developed to Cope with the step-up of the AC input voltatage from 220V to 380V. By using a buck-type converter in the front-end, it keeps the input power factor high and reduces the voltage ripple in the dc output. It also has a very wide voltage regulation range, which lets the unit be applied for both the 220V and 380V input system. The study includes the power conversion scheme, control strategy, snubber circuit and finally, experimental results.

  • Recently according to the increasing critical loads such as communication and life support systems stable power supplying becomes more and more important. Therefore it is indespensable to stabilize power source using these instruments - AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) or UPS(Uninterrutible Power Supply). This paper deals with ON-LNE UPS which is composed of PWM converter for AC-DC conversion. Using a PWM converter have advantages of low current harmonics and high power factor. In this paper ON-LNE UPS using PWM converter is proposed and its characteristics are investigated.

Average Current Control for Parallel Connected Converters

  • A current sharing controller is proposed in this paper for parallel-connected converters. The proposed controller is based on the calculation of the magnitudes of system current space vectors. Good current distribution between parallel converters is achieved with only one Proportional-Integral (PI) compensator. The proposed controller is analyzed and the circulating current impedance is derived for paralleled systems. The performance of the new control strategy is experimentally verified using two parallel connected converters employing Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) feeding a passive RL load and a 2.2 kW three-phase induction motor load. The obtained test results show a reduction in the current imbalance ratio between the converters in the experimental setup from 53.9% to only 0.2% with the induction motor load.

  • In order to improve the conversion efficiency and mitigate the EMI problem of conventional hard-switching inverters, a new soft-switching DC-AC inverter with a compact structure and a low modulation complexity is proposed in this paper. In the proposed structure, resonant inductors are connected in series for the arm branches, and resonant capacitors are connected in parallel for the neutral point branches. With the help of resonant components, the proposed structure achieves zero-current switching on the arm branches and zero-voltage switching on the neutral point branches. When compared with state-of-art soft-switching topologies, the proposed topology does not need auxiliary switches. Moreover, the commutation algorithm to realize soft-switching can be easily implemented. In this paper, the principle of the resonant operation of the proposed soft-switching converter is presented and its performance is verified through simulation studies. The feasibility of the proposed inverter is evaluated experimentally with a 2.4-kW prototype.

  • 국내 전력 계통은 경제의 성장과 더불어 생활 수준의 향상에 따라 지속적인 증설과 발전이 이루어졌다. 전력설비의 밀도 측면에서 비추어보면 미국이나 일본 대비 적게는 2배에서 많게는 4배에 이르는 최고 수준의 설비 밀도를 보이고 있다. 또한 전체 전력 생산량의 40%이상이 수도권에서 소비되고 있지만 발전설비는 최대 전력 수요지인 수도권과 먼 해안에 인접한 지역에 편재되어 있기 때문에 발생하는 수요와 공급지의 불균형, 장거리 선로를 통한 전력 전송에서 야기되는 전력계통 운영 측면에서의 문제가 발생하게 된다. 최근 화두가 되고 있는 원전 축소, 노후 화력 발전소 정지, 송전선로 경과지에서의 건설 고압 송전선로 건설 반대 등의 요인으로 인하여 전력계통을 최대한 효율적이고 안정적으로 운영하여야 하는 대전제를 만족시키기 위한 방안으로 기존 AC 기반의 계통 설비에 전력변환기술을 기반으로 하는 DC 계통 및 FACTS 설비의 확대 적용하는 방안이 제시되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다가올 MV급 이상의 전력변환설비의 개념 및 개발 현황에 대한 소개를 하고자 한다.
