As the OPAC has been changed by the automation of library catalog, AACR2 recognized as internationally standardized Cataloging Rules, and MARC transforming to automation program have some partial irrationality. In this study, I presented the methodology improving practically and specifically Cataloging Rules adjusted to Online environment, especially centering on AACR2R, after I reviewed the literature asserting a criticism and a renewal of AACR2 and MARC.

The second edition of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR 2) was published in December 1978. In 1974 representatives Qf five bodies from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States established the Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR, and set the aims, structure, and content of AACR 2. Although the goal of a single text for Britain and North America was achieved in AACR 2, the American library community expressed concern about cost-effectiveness of adoption of the new code, and consquently the LC implementation plan called for some minor departures from AACR 2. LC's plan to depart from a number of provisions of the new code will cause a continuation of the problems presented by past practices of superimposition. The purpose of this paper is to examine the revisions made in AACR 2 in the hope that it will contribute to efforts of Korean librarians seeking to focus on the major questions requiring discussion and decisions before adoption of AACR 2 by Korean research libraries who have already adopted Anglo-American Cataloging Rules for Western materials. In this paper attempts were made to follow the order of subjects treated in the code, beginning with general revisions, followed by a discussion of each of the parts of the code, the first for bibliographic description and the second for choice and form of access points. The differences between AACR 1 and AACR 2 that will be most significant to cataloguers are compared with examples. Comparative analysis of optional and alternative rules are viewed from a historical background, and their practical applications for the different types of libraries / or materials are discussed. Specifications of the options adapted by the Library of Congress are presented. Adaption of AACR 2 poses continual problems in Korea. It is very important to maintain consistent sets of information consistently presented in the catalogue regardless of its language. The recognition by cataloguers of the urgent need for conformity and campatability of catalogue between Western mateirals and Oriental materials is recommended, if AACR 2 is to be adapted. It would be intolerable for the catalogue users, if different standards of description and headings were to apply in the same catalogue.

Due to rapid internet supply and the increase of electronic resources including network resources, there has been a sudden change in cataloguing fields. To deal with rapid changes, IFLA revised cataloguing rules for electronic and continuing resources; ISBD(ER) and ISBD(CR), JSC(Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR) has published the 2002 revision of Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition. Major changes in both content and format make the release of the 2002 revision momentous. This study is to analyze activities of JSC and rule revisions of AACR2R 2002 edition, expecially in regards with concepts of change to rule 0.24, new categories of bibliographic materials, changes to chapter 3(cartographic materials), chapter 9(electronic materials), chapter 12(continuing materials), definition of a new terminologies, changes in MARC 21 coding, and issues concerned with revision of KORMARC.

The purpose of this study is to devise a rational rules for headings in a new Korean Cataloging Rules. To achieve this purpose, this study has analyzed the Statement of Principles of ICCP, AACR, AACR2, AACR2R, KCR2, KCR3.1, KORMARC on Disc etc. And then it studied the problems resulting from the analysis and described a new and rational cataloging rules for headings. To distinguish those different persons of the same name, It need to be add a subject name belong to the author that distinguish different person of the same name. And so devised a rational subject name list. And the guidline for authority control or authority entry to control the headings will be based upon GARE. The guideline will be integrated in the rules for headings.

The purpose of the study is to call forth a special attention to nonbook materials as part of library materials and to improve its bibliographic study of the Korean library community. For this purpose, this paper will concern the cataloging codes of nonbook materials in Anglo-American tradition for discussion, analyses and comparison. Furthermore, an emphasis was made on the general historical development of nonbook cataloging codes mainly used in U. S. and its impact on Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR). In addition, in the part III of AACR1, several controversial issues will be argued for further revision in provision. As shown in the revised Chapter 12 of AACR 1, this thesis will try to identify common characteristics and requirements of the standard cataloging codes. It will require a comparison of various subjects with three other leading international cataloging codes, served as the principal sources of information for the revision. And my final discussion will be argued for the comparison of the differences between AACR 1 and AACR 2 with exemples.

Many changes have been made on the cataloging rules on filmstrips and slides all the way from the Cox's rules of 1963 to AACR 2 of 1978. The purpose of this study is to analyze eight major British and American cataloging rules on filmstrips and slides, from the results of which to identify what major changes have been made chronologically, and to clarify major differences among them in describing the form ol Physical Description Area. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows: 1. In order to make a clear distinction from one element to the other in Physical Description Area, the use of punctuation has been made more concrete. In AACR 2, various punctuations in accordance with the each element's character are used. 2. The rules on the describing the number of physical units of filmstrips have got more and more specified. 3. The descriptive form of specific material designation is closely related to the existence or nonexistence of rules on the general material designation in the body of entry. Therefore, the rules of AECT and CLA having rules on the general material designation do not use the specific material designation in Physical Description Area. On the other hand, ISBD(NBM), LA rules and AACR 2 which makes it optional to use the general material designation prescribe to use the specific material designation. 4. As for the descriptions of the physical status other than the unit and size of the filmstrips and slides, the first LC card and Cox's rules, had the color designation, and the CLA rules had sound designation. In the LA rules, AACR1(Chapter 12 Revised) and AACR 2, the detailed description of the physical status including the indication of color, sound, kind of frame, time etc. has become more and more important for Physical Description Area. 5. All the rules adopt millimetre as the measuring unit of the size of filmstrips. For the slides, most rules employ inch instead. But LA rules and ISBD(NBM) use centimeters, and AACR 2 takes either inch or centimeters. 6. Most rules, including Cox's rules, give the information on the accompanying materials. The information has been added as the last element of the Physical Description Area in the AACR 2, and recognized very important.

This study is to compare the descriptive cataloging rules between AACR2 and RDA, and then to find a direction of future cataloging and KCR 4. RDA is new cataloging rules that embody the International Cataloging Principles(2009), FRBR and FRAD. It is a structure of bibliographic control of all kinds of resources, and the rules can be flexibly applicable in the international cataloging community. It is critical to embody RDA in KCR 4 because RDA is likely to affect the future cataloging through its collocation function and relation function to construct semantic web of OPAC. This study analyzed the descriptive rules of work, expression, and manifestation based on RDA draft(2008) of JSC for Development of RDA. It analyzed the changes in the cataloging rules from AACR2 to RDA in such descriptive areas as title, type of resources, statement of responsibility, edition, publication, physical description and series in the manifestation level, and the preferred access points in both expression and work levels. The findings of this study will provide implications in revising KCR4.

KCR3과 AACR2R이 온라인 환경 즉, 온라인 목록에 부합되도록 실제적인 개선방안을 제시하고 있다. 구두법과 약자, 즉 몇몇 구두법에 대한 재정리 및 약자에 대한 완전철자 사용, masterfile에서의 청구기호의 위치, 서명저자사항에서 공저서 및 공저자 등의 생략없는 완전한 나열, 주기사항에 내용 및 목차주기의 제공, 표목지시로 이용자에게 다양한 접근점의 부출 등을 제시함으로서 온라인 목록에 부합되는 합리적인 편목규칙이 성립될 수 있을 것이다.

FRBR, as is new conceptual model of bibliography based on entity-relation model, direct to revision of AACR 3.JSC has progressed work to adopt FRBR conceptual model into cataloging rule, especially for solving the problem of expression level, propose to overall change of uniform title & GMD. This study considers the matters about expression level of FRBR model. And examine possibility of adoption FRBR model to domestic cataloging rule and making out practice.
