Al6061 alloy reinforced with 15 volume% of Saffil fibers was fabricated by squeeze infiltration method. Uniform distribution of reinforcements and good bondings between reinforcements and matrix alloy were found in the microstructure of composites. Comparing with A16061 matrix alloy, tensile strength and elastic modulus of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al composites were increased up to 26% and 31%, respectively. Cyclic deformation and fatigue behavior of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al metal matrix composites were studied. The specimens were cycled using tension-tension(R=0.1) loading and under load controlled fatigue test. Cyclic stress-displacement curve through fatigue test was obtained. Fatigue strength of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al composites was about 200 MPa, i.e.0.55 of applied stress level(q). During fatigue test, $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al composites displayed cyclic hardening at all applied stress levels. The most of resultant displacement due to permanent plastic deformation occurred in less than the first 5% of fatigue life. Displacement-to-failure of the fatigue test was smaller than that of the tensile test because of accumulative damage by cumulative plastic deformation.
Any relative deformation between the cutting tool and the workpiece at the machining point, results directly in form and dimensional errors. The source of relative deformations between the cutting tool and the workpiece at the contact point may be due to thermal, weight, and cutting forces. This paper presents an investigation into dry and fluid machining with the objective of evaluating shape accuracy effect for the turning process of Al6061. The thermal distribution of cutting tool and cutting force was predicted using finite element method after measuring the temperature of the tool holder. To reach this goal, shape accuracy turning experiments are carried out according to cutting conditions with dry and fluid machining methods. The variable cutting conditions are cutting speed, depth of cutting and feed rate.
Hybrid $A1_2O_3-TiC$ ceramic particle reinforced 6061 and 5083 Al composite powders were prepared by the combination of twin rolling and stone mill crushing process, followed by consolidating processes of cold compaction, degassing and hot extrusion. The composite bar consists of lamellar structure of ceramic particle rich area and matrix area, in which the hybrid was decomposed into each TiC of about $3-4\mutextrm{m}$ and $AI_2O_3$ particles of about $1-2\mutextrm{m}$ in diameter. It also found that fine $Mg_2Si$ precipitates of about 30 nm were embedded in the matrix, which have grains of about 3 $\mutextrm{m}$. Higher UTS was measured at the 5083 composite bar compared to the conventionally fabricated composite, due to again refinement effect by the rapid solidification. No particle was shown to form in the interface between the matrix and reinforcement, whereas carbon was diffused into the matrix.
Process design has been performed for the warm hydroforming of light weight alloy tubes. For the heating of tubes, specially designed induction heating system has been adopted to ensure rapid heating of tubes. The induction heating system uses 30kHz frequency induction coil in order to concentrate the energy in the tube and prevent the energy loss. But the induced heat by the integrated heating system, consisting of induction coil, tube, pressure oil and dies, was normally not equally distributed over the length and circumference of the tube specimen, and consequent temperature distribution was non-uniform. So additional heating element has been inserted into the inside of the tube to maintain the forming temperature and reduce temperature drop due to heat loss to the molds. And for that heat loss, a heat insulation system has also been installed. The drop in flow stress at elevated temperatures results in lower internal pressure for hydroforming and lower clamping forces. The proposed warm hydroforming process has been successfully implemented when applying 6061 aluminum extruded tubes.
In automobile industry, it is necessary to reduce the weight from the view point of energy and environmental problems in these days. One of the ways for weight reduction is using adhesive aluminum structures. In this study, ultrasonic signals reflected from the adhesively bonded joint layer are used to evaluate the adhesively bonded joints. FFT is performed to determine bond-layer parameters such as effective thickness and frequency for adhesively bonded joint Al 6061 plates in comparison with the measured and theoretical ratios. And the parameters of ultrasonic wave and the J-integral are investigated to evaluate the adhesively bonded joint strength by DCB specimens.
Recently, many researchers and industry are looking for ways to decrease the use of lubricants because of economical and environmental reasons. One of the lubrication technologies is the MQL method. This study presents a research of MQL and Wet milling processes of Al 6061 material. For this experiment, the test specimen is suggested, and various machining conditions are applied. And, shape of micro-pattern which has been recently spotlighted is included in the test specimen. In order to compare MQL with Wet machining, several milling experiments were carried out, varying feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, etc. Finally, the surface roughness results of machining tests according to the process conditions were measured. It is expected that the results of machining experiments can be used to predict the surface roughness of various MQL milling processes.
In the present paper, it is attempted to reconfirm the "Intelligent" material properties using both the sintered TiNi/Al(1100) matrix composite made by powder metallurgy method and the squeeze-casted TiNi/Al6061 specimens. A metal matrix composite is, its fault has been considered to deteriorate a strength of composite by heating residual stress of the matrix. Therefore, it is necessary to remove a tensile residual stress, to produce the strength of a composite better. On the contrary, if compressive residual stress happens in matrix of composite in place of tensile residual stress, it will make the strength of composite better. So that, this paper introduce the development of a high strength of composite, by using compressive residual stress well, on the study. By using these specimens, shape memory strengthening effects in tensile strength and fatigue crack propagation above inverse transformation temperature of TiNi fiber were investigated. We occurs the prestrain and volume fraction for to discuss the effects of a composite strength. Moreover, by SEM observation, the effect of the residual stress at the interface between Al matrix and TiNi fiber and some brittle precipitation layers such as inter metallic compounds on fracture mechanisms was discussed metallurgically.urgically.
The IGRINS (Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrometer) is a high resolution wide-band infrared spectrograph developed by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT). Immersion grating is a key component of IGRINS, which disperses the input ray by using a Silicon material with a lithography technology. Opto-mechanical mount for the immersion grating is important to keep the high spectral resolution and the optical alignment in a cold temperature of $130{\pm}0.06K$. The optical performance of immersion grating can maintain within the de-center tolerance of ${\pm}0.05mm$ and the tip-tilt tolerance of ${\pm}1.5arcmin$. The mount mechanism utilizes the flexure and the kinematic support design to satisfy the requirement and the operation condition. When the IGRINS system is cooled down to a cold temperature, three flexures compensate the thermal contraction stress due to the different material between the immersion grating and the mounting part(Aluminum 6061). They also support the immersion grating by an appropriate preload. Thermal stability is controlled by a copper strap with proper dimensions and a heater. Generally structural and thermal analysis was performed to confirm the mount mechanism. This talk presents the opto-mechanical mount design of the immersion grating of IGRINS.

We have designed a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope for astronomical observation. The telescope is designed to observe in the wavelength range of 0.5~2.1 ${\mu}m$, when it is cooled down to 77 K. The result of the preliminary design of the support structure and support method of the mirror of a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope is shown in this paper. As a Cassegrain prescription, the optical system of a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope has a focal ratio of f/3.1 with a 300 mm primary mirror (M-1) and 113 mm secondary mirror (M-2). The material of the whole structure including mirrors is aluminum alloy (Al6061-T6). Flexures that can withstand random vibration were designed, and it was validated through opto-mechanical analysis that both primary and secondary mirrors, which are assembled in the support structure, meet the requirement of root mean square wavefront error < ${\lambda}/8$ for all gravity direction. Additionally, when the M-1 and flexures are assembled by bolts, the effect of thermal stress occurring from a stainless steel bolt when cooled and bolt torque on the M-1 was analyzed.
This study examined the disinfection in combined sewer overflows (CSOs) by pulsed ultraviolet (PUV). The reflectors (stainless steel. mirror, aluminium foil, aluminium (1050), aluminium (6061), aluminium (5052), and aluminium mirror) of PUV irradiation was performed in a 90 L stainless reactor at a constant temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and an applied power of 4000 W. The reflection efficiency of reflectors were showed 1.00 (aluminium mirror) ~ 1.48 (aluminium foil) does. The case of a rough surface analysis using SEM showed high reflectance, was the case of a smooth surface and a low reflectivity. Pseudo first-order rate constant calculated results, has a higher reflectivity values were more than twice as high compared to the low reflectivity. Affected Total coliforms disinfection time, depending on the type of reflector is considered.
