The misery index is the sum of the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. The higher the index, the lower the performance of the national economy. Lee and Cheong (2007) propose that the open misery index, defined to be the sum of the misery index and the ratio of current account to GDP, properly measure the economic performance of a national economy when its degree of openness is large. This paper shows that the periods of rising open misery index of the USA coincide with those of economic hardship in the USA. Most recently, the open misery index of the USA has shown a rising trend for a decade prior to the current economic crisis. That is, external and internal imbalances of the USA have accumulated for a decade prior to the current economic crisis. We interpret the recent rising trend of the open misery index of the USA as a precursor of the current economic crisis.
Most of all the Korean home use a wallpaper as a decoration and finishing of interior. One of the fire spread factor in a house is a combustion of wall paper. There were some research concerning oxygen index in a ambient temperature. The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of oxygen index of a wallpaper between ambient and high temperature and a effect on the fire spreading. Based on the result, the difference of oxygen index between ambient temperature and high temperature showed $5{\sim}8%$. Difference of 0.1% of oxygen index show big differences in combustion length of sample. Therefore, it was found that the decrease of oxygen index at elevated temperature is a important factor in fire spread.
The purpose of this study is to develop an index for evaluating the function of a new motorway using the travel distance frequency distribution (TLFD) calculated using the vehicle travel route big data, and to overcome the limitations of the evaluation through the existing traffic volume. The mobility evaluation index of motorways was developed by applying it to the TLFD data table in 2019. The smaller the value of the mobility evaluation index of the link is calculated, the more it is a link with mainly short-distance travel, and the higher the value of the mobility evaluation index, the more it means a link with mainly long-distance travel. The accessibility evaluation index was calculated through the result of the mobility evaluation index of all motorways developed, and all motorways were grouped into three groups using K-means clustering. Group A was found to exist inside a large city and consisted of motorways with many short-distance traffic, Group B was investigated as acting as an arterial between groups, and Group C was classified as a motorway consisting mainly of long-distance traffic connecting large cities and large cities. This study is significant in developing a new motorway function evaluation index that can overcome the limitations of motorway function evaluation through the existing traffic volume. It is expected that this study can be a reasonable comprehensive indicator in the operation and planning process of motorways.

Purpose: To calculate Preventable Trauma Death Rate (PTDR), Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) is the most utilized evaluation index of the trauma centers in South Korea. However, this method may have greater variation due to the small number of the denominator in each trauma center. Therefore, we would like to develop new indicators that can be used easily on quality improvement activities by increasing the denominator. Methods: The medical records of 1005 major trauma (ISS >15) patients who visited 2 regional trauma center (A center and B center) in 2014 were analyzed retrospectively. PTDR and PARK Index (Preventable Major Trauma Death Rate, PMTDR) were calculated in 731 patients with inclusion criteria. We invented PARK Index to minimize the variation of preventability of trauma death. In PTDR the denominator is all number of deaths, and in PARK Index the denominator is number of all patients who have survival probability (Ps) larger than 0.25. Numerator is the number of deaths from patients who have Ps larger than 0.25. Results: The size of denominator was 40 in A center, 49 in B center, and overall 89 in PTDR. The size of denominator was significantly increased, and 287 (7.2-fold) in A center, 422 (8.6-fold) in B center, and overall 709 (8.0-fold) in PARK Index. PARK Index was 12.9% in A center, 8.3% in B center, and overall 10.2%. Conclusion: PARK Index is calculated as a rate of mortality from all major trauma patients who have Ps larger than 0.25. PARK Index obtain an effect that denominator is increased 8.0-fold than PTDR. Therefore PARK Index is able to compensate for greater disadvantage of PTDR. PARK Index is expected to be helpful in implementing evaluation of mortality outcome and to be a new index that can be applied to a trauma center quality improvement activity.
Purpose. This study was conducted to provide basic data on the subjective happiness index and identify factors influencing college professor and staff by describing their perception of general characteristics, health behavior, suicidal ideation, and subjective happiness index. Methods. A survey was conducted with 198 professor and staff who were working University on K city. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS window 18.0 program. Result. The Mean scores of Subjective happiness in college professor and staff was 4.66 on a scale of 7. There were significant differences on the subjective happiness Index for the followings: age, breakfast for 2 day, blood pressure (Lt systolic), health status index (EQ-VAS). There was a negative correlation between the subjective happiness Index and suicidal ideation. Factors influencing of subjective happiness in college professor and staff were identified as age (${\beta}=.201$), breakfast for 2 day (${\beta}=-.180$), blood pressure (Lt systolic) (${\beta}=-.244$), health status index (EQ-VAS) (${\beta}=.408$). These factors explained 35.1% of variance in subjective happiness in college professor and staff. Conclusion. Results indicate that factors influencing subjective happiness are suggesting the need to establish policies of health behavior. health behavior program for a life of happiness among college professor and staff.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of indexes by human and machine, and differences between them in terms of term identification in a fulltext environment. A back-of-book index and two indexes produced by two term identifiers (LinkIt and Termer) as pseudo-indexing systems for a whole body of a monograph are examined. In the investigation, the traditional contrast between manual and automatic indexing is confirmed in fulltext environment, manual index is for browsing and human use, and automatic index is for searching and machine use. The border between them, however, becomes vague. Some considerations for the use of the term identifiers for browsing and for searching are discussed, and further research for the use of the term identifier is suggested.
Purpose: In the private sector, many Customer Satisfaction Index Models have already been developed and are being applied in a variety of industries. In spite of continuously increasing of quality for military goods, measuring tools of Quality Satisfaction have not been developed yet. Method: In 2004, Defense Quality Assurance Agency and Seoul National University jointly developed MCSI(Military Customer Satisfaction Index) as a benchmark NCSI(National Customer Satisfaction Index), but it is limited to aply to military goods. We focused on product quality and developed MQSI(Military Quality Satisfaction Index) Model. Result: We propose a new Satisfaction Index Model(MQSI, Military Quality Satisfaction Index) that can be applied to military goods. Conclusion: In this study, configuration and variables of MQSI Model are described. Also the result of preliminary survey is briefly explained.

Purpose: This study was carried out to develop a classification index and grade levels to rate agricultural heaters for energy efficiency classification. Methods: The classification index was developed mainly by taking simplicity of calculation and easy access to relevant data into consideration. The grade levels were developed on the basis of a 5-grade classification system in which graded heaters are to be normally distributed over the grades. The value of each grade level were determined in terms of the classification index values calculated using the published performance data of agricultural heaters tested at the FACT in Korea over the past 12 years. Results: The thermal efficiency of agricultural heaters based on the enthalpy method was proposed as a reasonable classification index. The grade levels were proposed in equation form for three types of agricultural heaters: fossil fuel heaters, wood pellet heaters and wood pellet boilers. A reasonable energy efficiency classification of agricultural heaters could be performed using the proposed classification index and grade levels. Conclusions: It is expected that energy saving programs will be extended to agricultural machines in the near future. The classification index and grade levels to rate agricultural heaters for energy efficiency classification were developed and proposed for such near future to come.

This research was made to investigate the change of the image layer and of the vertical and horizontal magnification on the Panelipse radiographic image by the control of profile index. Using the Panelipse, a series of 60 exposures were taken with the steel balls placed in the holes of the plastic model plate, and then evaluated by 4 observers. Two points were assigned for a reading of sharp, one for middling sharp, and zero for unsharp. Each ball image then could be given a total reader score of 0 to 8. The author analyzed the image layer as defined by a sharpness score of 6 or more. The results obtained were as follows: As the profile index was increased, the shape of the image layer was not changed, and the width of the image layer was increased, and the position of the layer shifted away from the rotation center. As the profile index was increased, the ranges of vertical and horizontal magnification was increased, especially the ranges of horizontal magnification was greater than that of vertical magnification.

The prediction of stock price index is a very difficult problem because of the complexity of the stock market data it data. It has been studied by a number of researchers since they strong1y affect other economic and financial parameters. The movement of stock price index has a series of change points due to the strategies of institutional investors. This study presents a two-stage forecasting model of stock price index using change-point detection and artificial neural networks. The basic concept of this proposed model is to obtain Intervals divided by change points, to identify them as change-point groups, and to use them in stock price index forecasting. First, the proposed model tries to detect successive change points in stock price index. Then, the model forecasts the change-point group with the backpropagation neural network (BPN). Fina1ly, the model forecasts the output with BPN. This study then examines the predictability of the integrated neural network model for stock price index forecasting using change-point detection.
