  • Noise and vibration triggered by pile driving in a construction site not only give hard time to the surrounding areas but could also cause residents nearby to file civil complaints to the extent of bringing construction to a halt. To deal with this issue, construction engineers have worked strenuously to develop low noise & low vibration pile methods. A noise & vibration-free screw concrete pile method proposed in this study is one of the successful outputs. It penetrates pile underground by rotating and pressing in body of the pile to avert noise and vibration while maximizing bearing capacity. A prototype of noise and vibration-free precast screw pile method was manufactured, which is not seen anywhere in Korea and elsewhere, and have undergone pilot tests twice to determine construction method.

  • The so-called boundary node method (or NDIF method) that was developed by the authors has been extended for free vibration analysis of arbitrarily shaped plates with free edges. Since the proposed method requires no interpolation functions. no integration Procedure is needed on boundary edges of the plates and only a small amount of numerical calculation is involved, compared with FEM and BEM. In order to explain tile reason why spurious eigenvalues are generated when the NDIF method is applied to free plates, the NDIF method has been considered for free vibration analysis of both a fixed string and a free beam. Finally, verification examples show that natural frequencies obtained by the present method agree well with those given by an exact method or a numerical method (ANSYS).

  • Noise and vibration due to pile driving cause residents nearby construction sites to file civil complaints and to the extent of bringing construction to a halt. To deal with this issue, construction engineers have worked strenuously to develop several types of low noise & low vibration pile methods. In this study, a new noise and vibration-free precast screw pile method proposed as a low noise & low vibration pile. It penetrates into the ground by rotating and pressing to avert noise and vibration while maximizing bearing capacity. A prototype of noise and vibration-free precast screw pile method was manufactured, which is not seen anywhere in Korea and elsewhere, and have undergone pilot tests twice to determine construction method. Based on this study, features of the noise & vibration-free screw pile method, production of screw concrete pile prototype, two pilot tests and subsequent construction method were determined.

  • This paper is concerned with the free vibration analysis of an annular plate with boundary conditions of simply supported-free, clamped-free and free-free, respectively. Exact solutions for the natural frequency and mode of an annular plate can be obtained by solving the differential equation but other methods such as the Rayleigh-Ritz method and the finite element method can be also used. In this research, we applied the Independent Coordinate Coupling Method(ICCM) to the annular plate and prove that the ICCM can accurately predict the natural frequency and mode shape of the annular plate. The numerical results show that the ICCM can be used effectively for the free vibration problem of plate with a hole compared to the Rayleigh-Ritz method and the finite element method.

  • In doing the foundation work in the downtown, the popular complaints by means of Noise and vibration have been became heavy burden. Therefore, the noise & vibration-free screw PHC pile method will contribute to the foundation work by removal of the popular complaints and improvement of the constructability. In this paper, the load bearing capacity and displacement characteristics of the noise & vibration-free screw PHC pile were analyzed. The noise & vibration-free screw PHC pile's behavior was better well than the existing PHC pile's one.

  • A torsional vibration analysis of a multi-stage reduction gear box connected to a gas turbine system is presented. For a free vibration analysis the Modified Hibner Branch Method, so called "Blank Matrix Method", and the .lambda.-Matrix Method are used in the modeling and the eigenvalue solution, respectively. Also, a short circuit forced analysis of the system is performed, utilizing the energy method modeling. It is shown that the results of the free vibration analysis have the same tendency as those of the short circuit analysis. analysis.

  • This paper is concerned with the free vibration analysis of a circular plate with an eccentric circular hole by the Independent coordinate coupling method(ICCM). It was proved in the previous study that the ICCM can accurately predict the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the annular plates and can also be used for the free vibration analysis of the simply-supported circular plate with an eccentric circular hole. In this study, the clamped and free boundary conditions were considered for the circular plate. The numerical results show that the ICCM can be used effectively for the free vibration problem of circular plate with an eccentric hole compared to the finite element method.

  • This paper presents the application of the technique of differential transformation of free vibration of membrane. Numerical calculations are carried out and compared with previously published results. The results obtained by the present method agree very well with those reported in the previous works. The present analysis shows the usefulness and validity of differential transformation in solving a solid and annular circular membranes problem of the responses of the free vibration.

  • Free vibration analysis using the method of NDIF (non-dimensional dynamic influence function), which was developed by the author, is extended to arbitrarily shaped polygonal plates with free edges. Local Cartesian coordinate systems are employed to apply the free boundary condition to nodes distributed along the edges of the plate of interest. Furthermore, a new way for applying the free boundary condition to nodes located at corners of the plate is for the first time introduced by considering the phenomenon of stress concentration at the corners. Two case studies show that the proposed method is valid and accurate when the eigenvalues by the proposed method are compared to those by FEM(ANSYS).
