Level set method is used for extracting a shape within an image. This method is based on the ideas developed by osher and sethian to model propagating solid/liquid interfaces moving with curvature-dependent speeds. In this paper, we propose the new generalized formulation and stopping function of evolution for more accurate extraction of shape. Our method shows good results in some cases compared with the conventional ones.
A drop impact on the liquid film/pool generates several phenomena such as the drop floating, bouncing, formation of vortex ring, jetting, bubble entrapment and splashing. These phenomena depend on the impact velocity, the drop size, the drop properties and the liquid film/pool thickness. These parameters can be summarized by four main dimensionless parameters; Weber number, Ohnesorge number, Froude number and non-dimensional film/pool thickness. In the present study, the phenomena of the splashing and bubble entrapment due to the drop impact on the liquid film/pool were numerically investigated by using a Level Set method for the sharp interface tracking of two distinct phases. After the drop impact, the splashing phenomena with the crown formation and spreading were predicted. Under the specific conditions, the bubble entrapment at the base of the collapsing cavity due to the drop impact was also observed. The numerical results were compared to the available experimental data showing good agreements.
A general purpose program NUFLEX has been extended for two-phase flows with topologically complex interface and cavitation flows with liquid-vapor phase change caused by large pressure drop. In analysis of two-phase flow, the phase interfaces are tracked by employing a LS(Level Set) method. Compared with the VOF(Volume-of-Fluid) method based on a non-smooth volume-fraction function, the LS method can calculate an interfacial curvature more accurately by using a smooth distance function. Also, it is quite straightforward to implement for 3-D irregular meshes compared with the VOF method requiring much more complicated geometric calculations. Also, the cavitation process is computed by including the effects of evaporation and condensation for bubble formation and collapse as well as turbulence in flows. The volume-faction and continuity equations are adapted for cavitation models with phase change. The LS and cavitation formulation are implemented into a general purpose program for 3-D flows and verified through several test problems.
In this article, we use an open source software library: TensorFlow, developed for the purposes of conducting very complex machine learning and deep neural network applications. However, the system is general enough to be applicable in a wide variety of other domains as well. The proposed model based on a deep neural network model, LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) to predict the river water level at Okcheon Station of the Guem River without utilization of rainfall - forecast information. For LSTM modeling, the input data is hourly water level data for 15 years from 2002 to 2016 at 4 stations includes 3 upstream stations (Sutong, Hotan, and Songcheon) and the forecasting-target station (Okcheon). The data are subdivided into three purposes: a training data set, a testing data set and a validation data set. The model was formulated to predict Okcheon Station water level for many cases from 3 hours to 12 hours of lead time. Although the model does not require many input data such as climate, geography, land-use for rainfall-runoff simulation, the prediction is very stable and reliable up to 9 hours of lead time with the Nash - Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) is higher than 0.90 and the root mean square error (RMSE) is lower than 12cm. The result indicated that the method is able to produce the river water level time series and be applicable to the practical flood forecasting instead of hydrologic modeling approaches.
This paper proposes an expert system based on the pattern recognition method which can enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of real-time bus reconfiguration strategy for the transfer of faulted load when a main transformer fault occurs in the automated substation. The minimum distance classification method is adopted as the pattern recognition method of expert system. The training pattern set is designed MTr by MTr to minimize the searching time for target load pattern which is similar to the real-time load pattern. But the control pattern set, which is required to determine the corresponding bus reconfiguration strategy to these trained load pattern set is designed as one table by considering the efficiency of knowledge base design because its size is small. The training load pattern generator based on load level and the training load pattern generator based on load profile are designed, which are can reduce the size of each training pattern set from max L/sup (m+f)/ to the size of effective level. Here, L is the number of load level, m and f are the number of main transformers and the number of feeders. The one reduces the number of trained load pattern by setting the sawmiller patterns to a same pattern, the other reduces by considering only load pattern while the given period. And control pattern generator based on exhaustive search method with breadth-limit is designed, which generates the corresponding bus reconfiguration strategy to these trained load pattern set. The inference engine of the expert system and the substation database and knowledge base is implemented in MFC function of Visual C++ Finally, the performance and effectiveness of the proposed expert system is verified by comparing the best-first search solution and pattern recognition solution based on diversity event simulations for typical distribution substation.
Free surface liquid jet impingement, which is applicable to cooling of hot plates in a steel-making process, is investigated numerically by solving the conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy in the liquid and gas phases. The free-surface of liquid-gas interface is tracked by an improved level-set method incorporating a sharp-interface technique for accurate imposition of stress and heat flux conditions on the liquid-gas interface. The level-set approach is combined with a non-equilibrium $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The computations are made for slit nozzle jets to investigate their flow and cooling characteristics. Also, the effects of jetting angle, velocity and moving velocity of plate on the interfacial motion and the associated flow and temperature fields are quantified.
This paper presents hardware scheme of fuzzy inference engine, based on α-level set decomposition of fuzzy sets for fuzzy control of DC servo system. We propose a method which is directly converted to PWM actuating signal by a one body of fuzzy inference and defuzzification. The influence of quantity α-levels on input/output characteristics of fuzzy controller and output response of DC servo system is investigated. It is concluded that quantity α-cut 4 give a sufficient result for fuzzy control performance of DC servo system. The experimental results shows that the proposed hardware method is effective for practical applications of DC servo system.
The water droplet motion in an air flow microchannel with pores through which water emerges is studied numerically by solving the equations governing the conservation of mass and momentum. The gas-liquid interface is tracked by a level set method which is based on a sharp-interface representation for accurately imposing the matching conditions at the interface and is modified to implement the contact angle conditions on the wall and pores. The numerical results show that the droplet growth and detachment pattern depend significantly on the contact angle and inlet air velocity. Also, the dynamic interaction between the droplets growing on multiple pores is investigated. The pore arrangement subject to droplet merging is found to be not effective for water removal.
As the fuzzy control is applied to servo system the hardware implementation of the fuzzy information systems requires the high speed operations, short real time control and the small size systems. The aims of this study is to develop hardware of the fuzzy information systems to be apply to servo system. In this paper, we propose a calculation method of approximate reasoning for fuzzy control based on $\alpha$-level set decomposition of fuzzy sets by quantize $\alpha$-cuts. This method can be easily implemented with analog hardware. The influence of quantization levels of $\alpha$-cuts on output from fuzzy inference engine is investigated. It is concluded that 4 quantization levels give sufficient result for fuzzy control performance of do servo system. It examined useful with experiment for dc servo system.
In this paper, we present a novel automatic algorithm for scalp and skull segmentation in T1-weighted head MR images. First, the scalp and skull part are constructed by using intensity threshold. Second, the scalp outer surface is extracted based on an active level set method. Third, the skull inner surface is extracted using a canny edge detection algorithm. Finally, the fast sweeping, tagging and level set methods are applied to reconstruct surfaces from the detected points in three-dimensional space. The results of the new segmentation algorithm on MRI data acquired from eight persons were compared with manual segmented data. The average similarity indices for the scalp and skull segmented regions were equal to 84.42% for the test data.
