The concentrations of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in twelve Korean mothers' milk samples collected in October 2006 and four infant formula samples produced by Korean manufacturers were determined. CLA detected from both mothers' milk and infant formula samples was only cis-9, trans-11 CLA isomer. The amount of cis-9, trans-11 CLA in Korean mothers' milk (100 mL) ranged from 4.32 to 10.12 mg ($6.27{\pm}0.28\;mg$). Infant formula (13 g), which is the manufacturers' recommended amount to make up 100 mL with water, contained cis-9, trans-11 CLA isomer in amounts ranging from 1.61 to 2.97 mg ($2.27{\pm}0.31\;mg$).

The effect of pH on the fermentation characteristics and the formation of cis-9, trans-11 conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and trans-11 octadecenoic acid by mixed ruminal bacteria was examined in vitro when incubated with linseed or rapeseed. Concentrate (1%, w/v) with ground linseed (0.6%, w/v) or rapeseed (0.5%, w/v) was added to 600 ml mixed solution of strained rumen fluid with artificial saliva (1:1, v/v), and was incubated anaerobically for 12 h at $39^{\circ}C$. The pH of culture solution was maintained at level close to 4.5, 5.3, 6.1 and 6.9 with 30% $H_2SO_4$ or 30% NaOH solution. pH increment resulted in increases of ammonia and total volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration in culture solutions containing both oilseeds. Fermentation did not proceeded at pH 4.5. Molar proportion of acetate decreased but that of propionate increased as pH increased when incubated with oilseeds. While the hydrogenating process was very slow at the pH range of 4.5 to 5.3, rapid hydrogenation was found from the culture solutions of pH 6.1 and 6.9 when incubated with linseed or rapeseed. As pH in culture solution of linseed or rapeseed increases proportions of oleic acid (cis-9 $C_{18:1}$) and trans-11 octadecenoic acid increased but those of linoleic acid and linolenic acid decreased. The CLA proportion increased with pH in culture solution containing rapeseed but CLA was mostly not detected from the incubation of linseed.

The cultural conditions of the osmophilic yeasts for higher concentration of NaCl selected in the previous report were examined and the results obtained were as follows. 1) The strain $T_3\;and\;T_8$ were grown exceedingly well on the media containing 15 percent of NaCl and $T_5\;and\;T_9,\;T_{10}\;and\;T_{11}$ on the media containing 5 percent of NaCl. 2) The optimum temperature for growth of the strain $T_3\;and\;T_5$ was $30^{\circ}C,\;T_8\;T_{10}$ and $T_{11}\;was\;25^{\circ}C\;and\;T_9\;was\;35^{\circ}C.$ 3) Their lethal temperature was $60^{\circ}C$ (treatment for 10 minutes). 4) The optimum pH for growth of the strain $T_3\;and\;T_8$ was pH 4.0, $T_5$ was pH 6.0 and $T_9\;T_9\;and\;T_{11}$ was pH 5.0, respectively.

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CHCA) is serious public health problem in Thailand, especially in the northeastern and northern regions. CHCA is known as one of the most aggressive malignant tumors associated with local invasion and a high rate of metastasis. A crucial step in the invasion process is the proteolytic degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and basal membranes, for which several studies have shown a critical role played by matrix metalloproteinase-11 (MMP-11). Objective: This study aim to detect MMP-11 expression in CHCA specimens and any correlation with survival time. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of 30 patients with CHCA in Rajvithi hospital, who had undergone immunohistochemical staining of MMP-11. Relationships between clinicopathological data and MMP-11 expression in CHCA specimens were analyzed by the ${\chi}^2$ test or Fisher's exact test. The estimated survival and the survival differences were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test, respectively. Results: MMP-11 expression was found in 15 specimens (50%). The overall mean survival time is 237.0 days (95% CI 135.4-338.5, SD 271.9). Specimens with a positive MMP-11 had an average survival time of 136.7 days (95%CI 50.3-223.1, SD 156.0). Survival differences was signficant for the positive and negative MMP-11(p=0.022), but not well differentiated tumor and moderate to poor differentiated tumor (p=0.755), CA19-9 level of >1,000 and <1,000 (p=0.488), and between advanced and non-advanced staging (p=0.388). Conclusions: The positive MMP-11 expression indicates poor prognosis in CHCA specimens.

Two new diterpene compounds have been isolate from the roots of Eragrostis ferruginea (Thunb.) Beauv. and their structures were elucidated as isopimara-9(11), 15-0ien-l9-ol-3-one and cassa-13(14), 15-diene-3, 12-dione by various spectroscopic me-thods. We have also isolated a known diterpene diol isopimara-9(11). 15-diene-3$\beta$, 19-dio1.

SAW 소자에 응용 가능한 자성박막재의 개발을 목적으로 RF 스퍼터링법으로 증착한 (Fe(sub)0.6Co(sub)0.4)(sub)89Zr(sub)11/Fe(sub)1-xCo(sub)x)Zr(sub)11(x=0, 0.6, 0.9)<원문잠조> 비정질 다층박막의 자기특성을 조사하였다. 수직자기장중열처리를 행하였을 때 상온에서 비자성 Fe(sub)89Zr(sub)11 층의 삽입에서만 다층박막화의 효과가 나타났다. 일 예로 (Fe(sub)0.6Co(sub)0.4)(sub)89Zr(sub)11(30${\AA}$)/Fe(sub)89-Zr(sub)11(40${\AA}$)<원문참조> 박막시편에 1kHz, 50 mOe의 여기자기장으로 평가된 최대 미분투자율${\mu}$(sub)d.max는 단층막의 750에서 1650으로 2배 이상 증가, 구동 바이어스자기장 Hw는 20 Oe에서 6Oe로 3배 이하로 감소하는 양호한 특성이 얻어졌다. 그러나 다른 중용 특성인 자왜는 34% 정도 감소하는 것으로 추정되었다.

Fourteen patients underwent orthotopic heart transplantation between March 1994 and May 1996 in Seoul National University Hospital. There were 9 male and 5 female patients, and the mean age was 40.8 $\pm$ 12.4 years ranged from 12 to 56 years. All patient were in NYHA Fc III or IV preoperatively. The underlying heart diseases were dilated cardiomyopathy in 11 and restrictive cardiomyopathy in 3. The mean age of donors was 24.9$\pm$ 10.2 years and the causes of the brain death were head trauma by traffic accidents in 8, subarachnoid hemorrhage in 2, 1 asphyxia, 1 fall down injury, 1 brain tumo , and 1 drowning, respectively The blood type was identical in 11, compatible in 2, and incompatible in 1 patient. The direct bicaval anastomosis technique was used in 11 cases, and standard right atrial anastomosis was done in the remaining 3 cases. The graft ischemic time was 158$\pm$44 minutes ranged 94 to 220 minutes. There were two hospital deaths(14.3%). The causes of deaths were 1 right ventricular failure followed by suspected cyclosporine induced hemolytic uremic syndrome and rejection, and 1 delayed massive bleeding, probably from rupture of the anastomotic pseudoaneurysm, respectively. The follow-up duration was 16$\pm$9 months(3 to 28 months). There was one late death(8.3%). All the other patients were in NYHA Fc I except one patient who was in hospital because of the acute rejection. The actuarial survival rates including hospital deaths were 93.7% at 1 month, 86.9% at 6 months, and 77$\pm$12% at 2 years. Conclusively, heart transplantation is the good strategy for the management of end stage heart disease with acceptable operative mortality and early follow-up results.

Using Brandt model the mess distribution of the late type spiral galaxy NGC 6946 was derived, and the total mass was reestimated to understand the M/L ratio of this galaxy. Two kinds of the rotation curve with shape parameter n=1 and 3.3 were examined. The following are the main results; (1) The total masses of NGC 6946 are $3.1\times$$10^{11}$ M(n=1) AND $2.8\times$$10^{11}$ M(n=3.3) respectively. and the corresponding M/L are about 17 and 16 for both cases. (2) The optical image in the blue light, whose radius is 9.6 kpc, has 8$\times$$10^{10}$ M and 1.4$\times$$10^{11}$ M. These give the value of M/L about 5 and 8 respectively. (3) The masses and M/L of the nuclear region within 1.2 kpc are 4.0$\times$$10^{9}$ M 4.7$\times$$10^9$ M and 3, 4 for both cases. Those of the disk from 1.2 kpc to 9.6 kpc are 7.6$\times$1$10^{10}$M, 1.4$\times$$10^{11}$M, and 5, 8. (4) The masses of the outer halo extended to few hundreds kiloparsecs are 2.3$\times$$10^{11}$ M and 1.4$\times$$10^{11}$M. The corresponding M/L are about 62 and 37.

By the means of concordance analysis among scoring methods, this study was to determine the priority order of forest road construction in 11 areas. The results have shown that the priority order by concordance index was ranked by area 9, 5, 11, 10, 6, 1, 3=4, 2, 7 and 8, and that by dis-concordance index by area 9, 3, 4, 5, 10, 8, 1, 11, 6, 7 and 2.

3-Carbomethoxy-1(3H)-isobenzofuranone(9) underwent condensation with ${\alpha}{\beta}-unsaturated$, esters 3a-b to produce the corresponding naphthacene-6,7-diones 11a-b with high yields in one pot procedure. Among the naphthacene-6,7-diones formed, compound 11a without an ethyl group at C-9 position was oxidized to give the naphthacene-5,12-dione 13a, while compound 11b containing the ethyl group was oxidized to give a 3:2 mixture of the naphthacene-5,7,12-trione 12b and naphthacene-5,12-dione 13b under the same experimental conditions.
