This paper presents the development of an integrated control and safety management system for 9% nickel steel LNG storage tank. The new system added the measuring equipment of pressure, displacement and force compared to the conventional measurement and control system. The measured data has simultaneously been processed by integrating and analyzing with new control equipments and safety management systems. The integrated control and safety management system, which may increase a safety and efficiency of a super-large full containment LNG storage tank, added additional pressure gauges and new displacement/force sensors at the outer side wall and a welding zone of a stiffener and top girder of an inner tank, and the inner side wall of a corner protection tank. The displacement and force sensors may provide failure clues of 9% nickel steel structures such as an inner tank and a corner protection, and a LNG leakage from the inner tank. The conventional leak sensor may not provide proper information on 9% nickel steel tank fracture even though LNG is leaked until the leak detector, which is placed at the insulation area between an inner tank and a corner protection tank, sends a warning signal. Thus, the new integrated control and safety management system is to collect and analyze the temperature, pressure, displacement, force, and LNG density, which are related to the tank system safety and leakage control from the inner tank. The digital data are also measured from control systems such as displacement and force of 9% nickel steel tank safety, LNG level and density, cool-down process, leakage, and pressure controls.

Restrictions on the emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter from marine engines are being tightened. Each of these emissions requires different reduction technologies, which are costly and require many pieces of equipment to meet the requirements. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel has a great advantage in reducing harmful emissions emitted from ships. Therefore, the marine engine application of LNG fuel is significantly increasing in new ship buildings. Accordingly, this study analyzed the internal support structure, insulation type, and fuel supply piping system of a 35 m3 International Maritime Organization C type pressurized storage tank of an LNG-fueled ship. Analysis of the heat transfer characteristics revealed that A304L stainless steel has a lower heat flux than A553 nickel steel, but the effect is not significant. The heat flux of pearlite insulation is much lower than that of vacuum insulation. Moreover, the analysis results of the constraint method of the support ring showed no significant difference. A553 steel containing 9% nickel has a higher strength and lower coefficient of thermal expansion than A304L, making it a suitable material for cryogenic containers.
[ $9\%$ ] nickel steel LNG storage tank have double containments that can store cryogenic LNG independently. Inner tank material is used as $9\%$ nickel steel and outer tank is constructed by concrete. Comer protection which is installed on inner surface of concrete corner is consist of $9\%$ nickel steel liner and form glass insulator that make reduce tension at corner when LNG is leaked from inner tank. It is very difficult to design corner protection because expansion and contraction of liner make stress state complex. Corner protections of operating tank in KOGAS are designed by Japanese engineering company such as TKK, KHI and England company of WHESSOE. This paper is mainly focused on the integrity comparison of them according to requirements of Appendix 4 in ASME Section VIII Div. 2 by using FEM.
This paper presents the design safety analysis of the inner tank structure, which is manufactured by 9 percent nickel steel sheets in the full containment type LNG storage tank. The FEM computed results indicate that top girder and several stiffener rings of the inner tank play an important role for controlling the deformation and stress intensity of the inner tank structure. The hydrostatic pressure due to cryogenic fluids gave more influential to the deformation of the inner tank wall compared with that of a cryogenic temperature of $-162^{\circ}C$. But, the deformation and stress of the inner tank. which is produced by the buckling loads, are very small because the external load is not applied to the top of the inner tank. This indicates the role of top girder and stiffener rings of the inner tank model is not important in full containment LNG storage tank.

In this study, the FE analysis has been presented for the leakage safety of $9\%$ nickel type LNG storage tank based on the thermal resistance effects between insulation panels, comer protection and prestressed concrete(PC) structures. The FEM calculated results show that the leakage safety of fiber glass blanket, perlite powder and cellular glass insulators does not guarantee any more due to a strength failure of the insulation structure. But the corner protection and PC structure of outer tank may delay or sustain the leaked LNG of 10 days even though the inner tank and insulation structure are simultaneously failed. This means that $9\%$ nickel steel type LNG storage tank may be safe because of a high strength of the corner protection and outer tank structures.
This paper presents the stress and deformation behaviors of 9% nickel steel inner tank in a full containment LNG storage tank using a FE analysis. For an increased strength safety of an inner tank, the tension cable was fastened around the outside wall of an inner tank, which is known as a weak zone for the hydrostatic pressures, cryogenic temperature loads, and other loadings. Based on the FEM computed results between a conventional inner tank and a inner tank with tension cables around the lower part of the side wall of an inner tank, the redesigned inner tank is more safe than that of the conventional tank without a tension cable. The FEM results recommend $3{\sim}4$ steel tension cables with a diameter of 50mm for an increased strength safety of the inner tank, which may decrease the stress concentration and deformation near the lower part of the side wall. Thus the tension cable around the inner tank may be used as an alternative safety device compared to the stiffener and the top girder structures for the increased LNG storage tank, especially.

Container vessels continue to grow in size, led by global shipowner. Large ships can be loaded more cargo at a time, reducing the cost of transportation per teu. this eventually leads to economies of sale, in which the production cost per unit decreases with increasing output. in accordance with the 70th Convention of the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization, as of January 1, 2020, MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 14.1.3 will be effective. All vessels must be meet these criteria to reduce Sox emissions and reduce NOx emissions by reducing the content of manned sulfur oxides from 3.5% to less than 0.5%, otherwise IACS Member States Entry to the port is denied. in order to do that need to LNG storage tank. in this study characteristic of the material after line heating (600℃,700℃,800℃,900℃) of 9% Ni steel used in the manufacture of LNG fuel tank of ship were verified using by mechanical test. In the heating method by line heating. The initial properties of steel are changed by variables such as temperature, time, speed. The experimental data of line heating presented in this paper confirmed that the initial change of 9% Ni steel could be minimized.

Structural analysis is performed to design anchor straps for a large-scale-liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) storage tank with corner protection and an inner tank by considering structural integrity. Anchor straps made of 9% nickel steel are attached to the inner tank, corner protection, and concrete raft to prevent the failure of the inner tank during both normal and emergency operating conditions. Two finite element (FE) models were analyzed in this study. One is a stand-alone model of the anchor strap, while the other is an extended model of the substructure of the anchor strap, inner tank, and corner protection. Three-dimensional shell elements are used to effectively assess the bending and axial behavior of structures. The Tresca stress values in each part of the two models are calculated for operation under five different load-condition cases: normal operation, leakage of the LNG, hydro test, and two earthquake conditions.

The mechanical properties, heat treatment and the history for the development of Ni-bearing ferritic steels for the application at low temperatures are reviewed. Ni-bearing ferritic steels are classified into $2-3\%$ Ni steels, $5.5\%$ Ni steel, $9\%$ Ni steel and $13\%$ Ni steel., of which $9\%$ Ni steels are most widely used for the large LNG storage tanks owing to their encellent fracture toughness up to $-196^{\circ}C$. The effect of retained austenite on the tensile properties and toughness was precisely discussed. As the size of LNG storage tank increases, thicker plates are needed. Thus, the recent efforts for the improvement of low temperature toughness and homogeneity are also introduced.

9% nickel alloy steels used for LNG, cryogenic liquid, storage tank are welded with dissimilar Inconel or Hastelloy welding rod and the weldment shows similar characteristic with the dissimilar metal weld of low carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel. Band type indications are sometimes shown on the film during radiography test of the weldments. Thus this study identified whether the indications are non-relevant indications through material, radiographic test, ultrasonic test, liquid penetrant test and microstructure analysis and also proposed radiography film interpretation and cause of band type indications.
