Effects of Houttuynia cordata Thunb on Atherosclerosis and Lipidperoxidation in 2,3,7,8-TCDD-Damaged Rats

  • TCDD (2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin), one of the notorious toxic environmental pollutants, damages various organs including liver and is regarded as an endocrine disrupter. To investigate the effects of Houttuynia cordata Thunb (HCT) on the biochemical parameters of function, liver and serum of TCDD-treated rats were used. After 7 days from TCDD (1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg) injection, HCT (200 mg/kg) was administered into rats intraperitoneally for 4 weeks. The lipidperoxide content was examined by measuring the level of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, total lipid and triglyceride (TG) in serum, and malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver tissue of rats.   • The objective of this study was to characterize the absorption and pharmacokinetic disposition of novel cyclic tetrapeptide, apicidin, in rats. Apicidin was administered to SD rats by i.v. bolus injection (1,2 or 4 mg/kg) and oral gavages (10 mg/kg). Serum levels of apicidin were monitored by LC/MS over 8 hours following each administration. Upon i.v. injection, serum levels of apicidin were best fit by a multi-exponential equation. The t$\frac{1}{2}$. Cl$\sub$s/ and V$\sub$ss/ ranged from 0.9-1.1 hr, 52.8-56.5 ml/min/kg, and 2.6-2.7 L/kg, respectively. (omitted)

  • Streptomyces scabiei subsp. chosunensis M0137. nonadecanoic acid producer. showed the highest protease activity when grown in OSY medium (oatmeal 1.5%, soybean meal 2%, dried yeast 1 %) supplemented with. glycerol (1 %) and CaCO3 (0.1 %). Two forms of protease(SS-1 and SS-2) were fractionated and purified through Ultrogel AcA 54 gel filtration and DEAE-sepharose CL-6B column chromatography. Both proteases were practically stable in the pH range of 6-10. The optimal pH for the activities of both protease 88-1 and 8S-2 were 7.5 and 8.0. respectively. (omitted)

  • Two Known compounds, syringaresinol monoglucoside(8), chimaphilin(14), together with three new compounds, (9)[mp. $106{\sim} 111^{\circ}C$, C_{29}H_{44}O_{13}$], (10)[mp. $180{\sim}182^{\circ}C$, $C_{15}H_{20}O_{9}$] and (11)[mp. $100{\sim}105^{\circ}C$, $C_{18}H_{28}O_{8}$] were isolated from the BuOH fractionof Pyrola japonics(Pyrolaceae). The structures of the known compounds were determined by chemical and spectorscopic methods. The assignments of the $^{1}H-$ and $^{13}C-NMP$ spectra of these compounds were carried out by two-dimensional $^1H-^1H-COSY$, NOESY and $^1H-^{13}C$ multiple-bond, multiplequantum spectroscopic correlation techniques. The characterization of the three new compounds is now in progress.

Metabolic Activation of Marijuana Constituents, Cannabinoids, in Relation to Their Toxicity for Human and Its Oxidation Mechanism

  • Many oxidative metabolites of tetrahydrocannabinols (THCs), active components of marijuana, were pharmacologically active, and 11-hydroxy-THCs, 11-oxo-${\Delta}^8$-THC, 7-oxo-${\Delta}^8$-THC, 8$\beta$, 9$\beta$-epoxyhexahydrocannabinol (EHHC), 9$\alpha$, l0$\alpha$-EHHC and 3'-hydroxy-${\Delta}^9$-THC were more active than THC in pharmacological effects such as catalepsy, hypothermia and barbiturate synergism in mice. Cannabidiol (CBD), another major component, was biotransfomred to two novel metabolites, 6-hydroxymethyl-${\Delta}^9$-THC and 3-pentyl-6, 7, 7a, 8, 9, lla-hexahydro-I, 7-dihydroxy-7, 1O-dimethyldibenzo[b, d]oxepin (PHDO) through 8R, 9-epoxy-CBD and 85, 9-epoxy-CBD, respectively. Both metabolites exhibited some pharmacological effects comparable to d9 - THe. Cannabinol (CBN), the other major component, was mainly metabolized to ll-hydroxy-CBN by hepatic microsomes of animals including humans. The pharmacological effects of the metabolite were higher than those of CBN demonstrating that II-hydroxylation of CBN is metabolic activation pathway of the cannabinoid as is the case in THCs. Tolerance and reciprocal cross-tolerance developed to pharmacological effects d8 - THC and ll-hydroxy-d8-THC , and the magnitude of tolerance development produced by the metabolite was significantly higher than that by d8-THC. The results indicate that ll-hydroxy-d8-THC has an important role not only in the pharmacological effects but also its tolerance development of d8 - THe. THCs and their metabolites competed to the specific binding of CP-55, 940, an agonist of cannabinoid receptor, to synaptic membrane from bovine cerebral cortex. The Ki value of THCs and their metabolites were closely paralleled to their pharmacological effects in mice. A novel cytochrome P450 (cyp2c29) was purified and identified as a major enzyme responsible for the metabolic activation of d8-THC at the II-position in the mouse liver. cDNA of CYP2C29 was cloned from a mouse cDNA library and its sequence was determined. The oxidation mechanism of THC by cyp2c29 was proposed.

An efficient punctured-coded TCM for the mobile satellite channel (이동 위성 채널에서 효율적인 Punctured TCM 방식)

  • In this thesis, in order to apply a punctured convolutional codes to the trellis coded modulation(TCM), an efficient punctured trellis coded modulation(PTCM) based on the decomposition of the metric into orthogonal components is presented. Also, a simulation is performed in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) and a rician fading channel modeling the mobile satellite channel. The PTCM combines punctured convolutional coding with MPSK modulation to provide a large coding gain in a power-limited or bandwidth-limited channel. However, in general the use of the punctured convolutional code structure in the decoder results in a performance loss in comparison to trellis codes, due to difficulties in assigning metrics. But, the study shows no loss in performance for punctured trellis coded MPSK in comparison to TCM, and what is more, the punctured convolutional codes results in some savings in the complexity of Viterbi decoders, compared to TCM of the same rate. Also, the results shows that the punctured trellis coded .pi./8 shift 8PSK is an attractive scheme for power-limited and band-limited systems and especially, the Viterbi decoder with first and Lth phase difference metrics improves BER performance by the mobile satellite channel.

Trellis-coded MDPSK with Sliding Multiple Symbol Detection (슬라이딩(Sliding) 다중 심벌 간파를 이용한 드렐리스 부호화된 MDPSK)

  • In this paper, in order to apply the idea MDPSK to TCM, we use signal set expansion and set partition by phase differences. Through this we propose the trellis-coded MDPSK. And the Viterbi decoder containing branch metrics of the squared Euclidean distance of the Lth order phase difference as well as the first order phase difference is introduced in order to improve the bit error rate(BER) in the differential detection of the trellis-coded MDPSK. The proposed Viterbi decoder is conceptually same to the sliding multiple symbol dection method which uses the branch metric with the first and Lth order phase differences. We investigate the performance of the uncoded DQPSK and the trallis-coded D8PSK in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) through the Monte Carlo simulation under the two cases of using and not using the Lth order phase difference metric. The study shows that trellis-coded 8DPSK is an attractive scheme for power and bandlimited systems while also improving the BER performance when the Viterbi decoder is employed to the Lth order phase order difference metric. This performance improvement has been obtained without sacrificing the bandwidth or the power efficiency.

  • In a TDD system, the length of slots can be unequal, and the number of downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) slots per frame can be different as well. The advantage of using TDD is the capability to accommodate asymmetric high-bit-rate services for the DL and It, which will be one of the prominent features in 4G systems. This paper analyzes the performance of TDD system on mobile channel environments like indoor pedestrian and vehicular channel, and proposes optimum modulation/demodulation method in TDD system. A rectangular QAM (RQAM) used in various communication systems has good BER performance but the much more signal amplitudes also have become one of the barriers to implement receiver. While PSK receiver is implemented easily because it has a constant amplitude, but it's BER performance is worse than RQAM. APSK proposed in this paper integrates merits of RQAM and PSK, and minimizes demerits of then And a simple method is also proposed to demodulate the soft symbol. The results indicate that the proposed APSK has a little worse performance than RQAM but the dynamic range of APSK is about 4 dB, 8 dB better than RQAM at 16-ary, 64-ary modulation/demodulation respectively.

Demonstration of Adaptive Analogue Beam Forming in the E-Band

  • In this paper, we report the test results of a small-scale prototype that implements an analogue-beam-formed phased antenna array in the E-band. A four-channel dual-conversion receive RF module for 71~76 GHz frequency band has been developed and integrated with a linear end-fire antenna array. Measured performance is very close to the simulated results. An ad-hoc wireless communication system has also been demonstrated. Low BER was measured for an 8PSK data stream at 1.5 Gbps with the receive array beam formed in the direction of arrival of the transmitted signal. To our knowledge this is the first steerable antenna array reported to date in the E-band.
