EMC filter development for ships mounted electromagnetic (선박 탑재 전자기기용 EMC 필터 개발)

  • In this paper the internal or external of the ships mounted electronic devices due to the propagation of electromagnetic interference and to prevent malfunction EMC filter was designed and fabricated. It was designed and fabricated with Ni-Zn ferrite beads of high permeability to make large inductance as the inductor and Feed-through capacitors, which did not have any resonance point, to restraint resonance effectively, and the characteristics was evaluated. The results from the 0 kHz$\sim$1.5 GHz bandwidth of $25{\sim}70$ dB were able to obtain excellent attenuation characteristics. And, when the Electric Fast Transient (EFT) of 4 kV in the level 4 of IEC 61000-4-4 was induced, it was soon attenuated more than 1/6 to 600 V. Therefore, it was confirmed that the developed EMC filter can be used for suppressing ships mounted electromagnetic interference between electronic devices.

Fabrication and Performance of Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Milling System for Etching of Magnetic Film Device (자성박막 소자 에칭용 전자 사이클로트론 공명 이온밀링 시스템 제작과 특성연구)

  • The ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) Ar ion milling was manufactured to fabricate the device of thin film. The ECR ion milling system applied to the device etching operated by a power of 600W, a frequency of 2.45 GHz, and a wavelength of 12.24 cm and transferred by a designed waveguide. In order to match one resonant frequency, a magnetic field of 908 G was applied to a cavity inside of ECR. The Ar gas intruded into a cavity and created the discharged ion beam. The surface of target material was etched by the ion beam having an acceleration voltage of 1000 V. The formed devices with a width of $1{\mu}m{\sim}9{\mu}m$ on the GMR-SV (Giant magnetoresistance-spin valve) multilayer after three major processes such as photo lithography, ion milling, and electrode fabrication were observed by the optical microscope.

Safety Evaluation of the Settlement Amount of the Bridge Earthwork Transition Area Using the Ground Penetrating Radar in the Soft Ground Section (연약지반 구간에서 지표투과레이더 활용한 교량 접속부 침하량 안전 평가)

  • To reduce the bump of bridge/earthwork transition area caused by the settlement of the soft ground during public use, the road agencies have been continuously overlay or repavement at those areas. In this study, the vehicle-mounted ground penetrating radar with 1GHz air-coupled antenna was used to estimate the settlement amount of those areas for nine bridges built in the soft ground. Results shows that it is possible to effectively measure the thickness of pavement up to a depth of 1 m on an asphalt road with ground penetrating radar technology that can inspect under the road surface. Distinctively deformation of the road surface, the variation in the thickness of the pavement measured at bridge/earth transition areas is equivalent to a minimum of 50 mm and a maximum of 600 mm, and there is a risk of cavity in the ground. The difference in the increased pavement thickness is 50~250 mm for each bridge connection, which may cause the differential settlement. In this study, by using the result of the ground penetration radar, a plan for improving drivability and maintenance of the settlement is suggested and applied to the field.

Miniature Staircase-Shaped Wideband MIMO Antenna with Excellent Isolation, Compliant to the SAR Standard (SAR규격을 만족하는 우수한 격리도의 소형 계단구조 광대역 MIMO 안테나)

  • This paper proposes a novel compact MIMO antenna which has miniaturized radiators and their row correlation coefficient, working for the LTE mobile communication, and its SAR is observed. Each of the proposed radiators has a shape of staircase and the bandwidth is twice larger than the conventional PIFA as 600MHz(21%) in 2.5 GHz - 3.15 GHz. And the area of the radiators is $16.5mm{\times}9.7mm$ proper for a handheld device. Also, by adding a planar mushroom decoupling structure between the radiators, the isolation is improved. The design has been carried out using the commercial full-wave time-domain EM solver and the finalized MIMO antenna has the return loss less than -10 dB in the LTE band, the isolation better than 20 dB and the efficiency more than 90% with the gain of 4.3 dB. Regarding the SAR of the antenna, it is observed that the average SAR value of 1g is estimated as 1.37W/Kg, which is lower than the SAR standard.

  • This paper presents the implementation of IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control and Physical Layer Protocol that can be applied to wireless LAN system. We have used PRISM2 chipsets from Intersil to build the baseband, IF, and RF parts. DSSS(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) physical layer at 2.4GHz ISM band is adopted in the hardware prototype. To meet the high-speed requirement of physical layer, we have designed the MAC protocol layer with embedded firmware and FPGA. The prototype board is shown to be able to support the physical layer of 5GHz and 600Hz wireless LAN systems.

A 1.25 GHz Low Power Multi-phase PLL Using Phase Interpolation between Two Complementary Clocks

  • A 1.25 GHz multi-phase phase-rotating PLL is proposed for oversampling CDR applications and implemented with a low power and small area. Eight equidistant clock phases are simultaneously adjusted by the phase interpolator inside the PLL. The phase interpolator uses only two complementary clocks from a VCO, but it can cover the whole range of phase from $0^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$ with the help of a PFD timing controller. The output clock phases are digitally adjusted with the resolution of 25 ps and both INL and DNL are less than 0.44 LSB. The proposed PLL was implemented using a 110 nm CMOS technology. It consumes 3.36 mW from 1.2 V supply and occupies $0.047mm^2$. The $jitter_{rms}$ and $jitter_{pk-pk}$ of the output clock are 1.91 ps and 18 ps, respectively.

Microwave Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) Approach Based on an Integrated Photonic Ti:LiNbO3 Y Branch

  • An approach based on an integrated photonic Ti:LiNbO3 Y branch has been proposed, designed, and analyzed for the microwave instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM). By designing the Y branch with length L = 6545 ㎛ and refractive index NTE - NTM = 0.0764, a complementary optical filter with free spectral range (FSR) of 600 GHz is constituted, which results in a maximum measureable frequency of 300 GHz being obtained. Theoretical analysis on the temperature stability of the Ti:LiNbO3 Y branch shows that the FSR variation of the complementary filter is 0.3% for the temperature change of 100 K, which indicates that the IFM approach will have a better stability. All these results demonstrate that the proposed IFM approach has potential capability to be used for the increasingly higher microwave IFM with better stability.

Characteristics of out-band dispersion of OADM using cascaded FBG in WDM/SCM systems (WDM/SCM시스템에서 Cascaded FBG를 이용한 OADM의 Out-band 분산 특성)

  • We have analyzed the effect of out-band dispersion in the cascaded fiber Bragg Elating(FBG) based optical add-drop multiplexers(OADM) when bypassed wavelengths contain SCM signals. In order to compute this impairment the dispersion characteristics of FBG have been analytically calculated by solving their coupled wave equations, and the Fourier method is applied to IMD analysis. The out-band dispersion effects over WDM/SCM signals are analyzed under different and common system situations as: ITU channel spacing(100, 50, 25 GHz), channel density parameter, frequency extension of the SCM plan, modulation characteristics, FBG length, etc. From this results, the transport of WDM/SCM signals in future DWDM transport networks could be limited by this effect which has to be taken into account for designing future networks.

  • 이동 및 정보통신 시스템이 소형화 및 고성능화됨에 따라 System OR Package (SOP) 기술의 연구개발이 주목을 받고 있다. 저가형 SOP를 위하여 가장 많은 연구가 다층인쇄회로 기판에 수동소자 및 전송선로를 내장시키는 것이다. 본 논문에서는, 8층 KB 기판에 Meander line과 Radial/T Stub 패턴을 Advanced Design System(ADS) simulation을 이용하여 설계 및 제작하고 분석함으로써 정확한 SOP 디자인 및 설계 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 설계변수-패턴의 length, width, spacing, 각도와 공정변수-1층/3층, 기판 재질(prepreg(PP)과 resin coated copper(RCC))을 두어 제작하여 그 특성을 비교하였다. Meander Line는 PP보다 RCC에서의 인덕턴스가 크고 높은 자가 공진주파수를 가졌고, 3층보다 1층에서의 인덕턴스가 안정적이었다. Radial/T Stub는 PP보다 RCC에서의 커패시턴스가 작으나, 높은 자가 공진 주파수로 커패시턴스가 안정적이었다. Meander Line은 RCC, 병렬 전송선로 간격-400um, 병렬 전송선로 길이-500um, 1층 설계 시, 인덕턴스-1.60nH, 자가 공진주파수-9.21GHz 특성이 가장 우수하고, Radial Stub는 RCC, $60^{\circ}$, 1층 설계 시, 커패시턴스-0.62pF, 자가 공진주파수-9.06GHz의 특성이 나타났고, T Stub는 RCC, Stub 길이-600um, Stub 너비-150um, 1층 설계 시, 커패시턴스 -0.38pF, 자가 공진주파수-10GHz이상으로 우수한 특성을 나타냈다.

A Design of PLL and Spread Spectrum Clock Generator for 2.7Gbps/1.62Gbps DisplayPort Transmitter (2.7Gbps/1.62Gbps DisplayPort 송신기용 PLL 및 확산대역 클록 발생기의 설계)

  • This paper presents a design of PLL and SSCG for reducing the EMI effect at the electronic machinery and tools for DisplayPort application. This system is composed of the essential element of PLL and Charge-Pump2 and Reference Clock Divider to implement the SSCG operation. In this paper, 270MHz/162MHz dual-mode PLL that can provide 10-phase and 1.35GHz/810MHz PLL that can reduce the jitter are designed for 2.7Gbps/162Gbps DisplayPort application. The jitter can be reduced drastically by combining 270MHz/162MHz PLL with 2-stage 5 to 1 serializer and 1.35GHz PLL with 2 to 1 serializer. This paper propose the frequency divider topology which can share the divider between modes and guarantee the 50% duty ratio. And, the output current mismatch can be reduced by using the proposed charge-pump topology. It is implemented using 0.13 um CMOS process and die areas of 270MHz/162MHz PLL and 1.35GHz/810MHz PLL are $650um\;{\times}\;500um$ and $600um\;{\times}\;500um$, respectively. The VCO tuning range of 270 MHz/162 MHz PLL is 330 MHz and the phase noise is -114 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. The measured SSCG down spread amplitude is 0.5% and modulation frequency is 31kHz. The total power consumption is 48mW.
