Performance Test of Supercharger for Vehicle using Solar Cell (태양광발전 방식의 자동차용 과급 장치의 성능 평가)

  • The performance of a supercharger for vehicle using solar cell attached on the exterior of a car, an auxiliary battery, and an air compressor was evaluated in this study. This supercharger is composed of a solar cell of 40W, a battery of 60 Ah, an air compressor of 17 A, 8 $kgf/cm^2$ and an air tank of 8L. It takes about 6 days to charge the battery with the solar cell and the high pressure air of 8L can be supplied about 70 times to engine intake with this battery. The intake pressure increased by about 20~40% with this supercharger. The vehicle power and accelerating performance are enhanced by 87% and 50% each in the low speed range. But the performance improved little in the high speed range because of the rather constant flow rate of air supplied by this type of supercharger.

  • This study aims to present an improved model of the organizational structure for national university libraries in Korea. The results of this study are as follows : 1. A small scale library serving to a population of less than 15,000 should be organized with a staff of 50-60 persons, 3 departments and 10-13 sections (3 departments and 9-12 sections of central library + 1 section of branch library) 2. A medium scale library serving to 15,000-25,000 population should be organized with a staff of 80-120 persons, an associate librarian, 5-6 departments and 18-21 sections (4-5 departments and 15-18 sections of central library + 1 department and 3 sections of branch library) 3. A large scale library serving to a population of over 25,000 should be organized with a staff of 140-170 persons, an associate librarian, 7-8 departments and 25-28 sections (5-6 department and 20-21 sections of central library + 2 departments and 6 sections of branch libraries)

  • In this paper, an ATSC(Advanced Television Standard Committee)-M/H(Mobile/Handheld) multiplexer is designed and implemented using an embedded Linux based hardware platform. The ATSC-M/H multiplexer is composed of a CPU(Central Processor Unit), an FPGA(Field-Programmable Gate Array), ASI(Asynchronous Serial Interface)/SMPTE310(Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers310) interface board, and a GPS(Global Position System) clock processing block. The main functions of the ATSC-M/H multiplexer executed in the CPU and FPGA are described. The operation of the ATSC-M/H multiplexer is verified by processing its broadcast signal on a commercial receiver analyzer.

  • Hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor with involvement of the liver, brain, long bones, and lung. Among the 6 histological subtypes, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is the most aggressive. Its occurrence in the mediastinum is quite rare, and very few cases have been documented. The reported cases in the literature have described difficulties in the preoperative diagnosis due to the unusual histological appearance of the tumor. Immunohistochemistry remains the mainstay for a definitive diagnosis. Due to its low incidence, there is no standard treatment for mediastinal EHE, but curative resection is the preferred treatment option where possible, with chemotherapy used as an adjuvant treatment or in cases of widespread inoperable disease. The present case study describes an aggressive EHE occurring in an 18-year-old woman in the anterior mediastinum.

Effect of Hanwoo Diets Containing Linseed on Plasma Cholesterol Levels of Humans to Beef Consumption and Change in n-6/n-3 Fatty Acid of Loin Fat (아마씨앗 첨가 한우사료가 등심 지방의 n-6/n-3 변화 및 이를 섭취한 사람의 혈중 콜레스테롤 함량에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on lowering blood LDL-C in an adult human, by taking n-6/n-3 balanced Hanwoo beef and reducing n-6/n-3 in loin of Hanwoo beef. The randomized complete block design was used to conduct an experiment with a total of 20 castrated Hanwoo cattles, which were divided into two groups. Each group had 10 cattles, and the control group consisted of absence of linseed, while n-3 treatment group (n-3 group) had linseed. The results showed that n-6/n-3 in loin and blood was decreased to under 4:1 in n-3 group, while oleic acid as an monounsaturated fatty acid was increased by 52.79% compared to the control group. In above 70% of the clinical subjects who ate the balanced Hanwoo beef, the blood triglyceride, total cholesterol, and LDL-C were decreased by 25.35, 5.22, and 17.59%. However, in the subjects who ate the imported beef, and not the common Hanwoo beef, the same parameters were increased by 9.05, 8.21, and 21.70%, respectively. When the balanced Hanwoo beef were eaten, HDL-C were increased by 6.07% but the imported beef and common Hanwoo beef had those values decreased by 14.46 and 11.46%, respectively. The blood glucose was decreased by 6.42 and 11.82% in the subjects who ate balanced Hanwoo beef and common Hanwoo beef, respectively but the subjects who ate the imported beef had an increase by 15.19%.

Expression of the Pro-Domain-Deleted Active Form of Caspase-6 in Escherichia coli

  • Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that play an important role in the apoptotic pathway. Caspase-6 is an apoptosis effector that cleaves a variety of cellular substrates. The active form of the enzyme is required for use in research. However, it has been difficult to obtain sufficient quantities of active caspase-6 from Escherichia coli. In the present study, we constructed a caspase-6 with a 23-amino-acid deletion in the pro-domain. This engineered enzyme was expressed as a soluble protein in E. coli and was purified using affinity resin. In vitro enzyme assay and cleavage analysis revealed that the engineered active caspase-6 protein had characteristics similar to those of wild-type caspase-6. This novel method can be a valuable tool for obtaining active caspase-6 that can be used for screening caspase-6-specific substrates, which in turn can be used to elucidate the function of caspase-6 in apoptosis.

An embryoprotective role for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in developmental oxidative stress and chemical teratogenesis

  • The primary recognized health risk from common deficiencies in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), a cytoprotective enzyme for oxidative stress, is red blood cell hemolysis. Here we show that litters from untreated pregnant mutant mice with a hereditary G6PD deficiency had increased prenatal (fetal resorptions) and postnatal death. When treated with the anticonvulsant drug phenytoin, a human teratogen that is commonly used in pregnant women and causes embryonic oxidative stress, G6PD-deficient dams had higher embryonic DNA oxidation and more fetal death and birth defects. The reported G6PD gene mutation was confirmed and used to genotype fetal resorptions, which were primarily G6PD deficient. This is the first evidence that G6PD is a developmentally critical cytoprotective enzyme for both endogenous and xenobiotic-initiated embryopathic oxidative stress and DNA damage. G6PD deficiencies accordingly may have a broader biological relevance as important determinants of infertility, in utero and postnatal death, and teratogenesis.-Nicol, C.   • IPv6 and Ubiquitous Healthcare Environment (UHE) has become a main stream of the next generation technologies. IPv6 is designed in many ways with enhanced features such as a routing, mobility, scalability, QOS and security as a replacement of IPv4. Also, UHE is developed to provide patients with convenience and efficient healthcare services using the remote home healthcare system. However, IPv4 currently used as an Internet protocol does not have enough capability to fully support UHE. It may result in a restricted implementation of UHE. As a result, research on IPv6 implementations in UHE is increasingly becoming an issue within the healthcare industry. IPv6 has enhanced features to implement the remote healthcare system such as Neighbour Discovery process and address auto-configuration. In this paper, a basic of IPv6 and UHE will be firstly introduced and secondly, benefits brought by IPv6 in UHE will be discussed. In addition, security issues in IPv6 will be analysed to conclude this paper.

A Case of Hemolytic Disease of a Newborn by an Anti-$Di^a$ Antibody Treated with Intravenous Immunoglobulin (정맥용 면역글로불린 투여로 호전된 항-$Di^a$ 항체에 의한 신생아 용혈성 질환 1예)

  • Hemolytic disease in a newborn that causes early jaundice is common. It is often due to the Rh (D) and ABO incompatibility, but rarely due to unexpected antibodies. Among these unexpected antibodies, the anti-$Di^a$Dia antibody rarely occurs. The anti-$Di^a$ antibody was observed in the serum and red-cell eluate of an infant, and in the serum of his mother. The frequency of the appearance of the $Di^a$ antigen in the Korean population is estimated to be 6.4-14.5%. This paper reports a case of hemolytic disease in a newborn associated with the anti-$Di^a$ antibody. A full-term male infant was transferred to the authors' hospital due to hyperbilirubinemia the day after his birth. The laboratory data indicated a hemoglobin value of 11.6 g/dL, a reticulocyte count of 10.6%, a total bilirubin count of 14.4 mg/dL, a direct bilirubin count of 0.6 mg/dL, and a positive result in the direct Coombs' test. Due to the identification of an irregular antibody from the maternal serum, an anti-$Di^a$ antibody was detected, which was also found in the eluate made from the infant's blood. The infant had been treated with phototherapy and intravenous immunoglobulin since the second day after his birth and was discharged due to an improved condition without exchange transfusion. Therefore, in cases of iso-immune hemolytic disease in a newborn within 24 hours from birth who had a negative result in an antibody screening test, the conduct of an anti-$Di^a$ antibody identification test is recommended due to the suspicion of an anti-$Di^a$ antigen, followed by early administration of intravenous immunoglobulin.

A Design of 6Bone on KOREN (선도시험망에서 6Bone 설계)

  • The 6Bone is an environment supporting experimentation with the IPv6 protocols and products implementing it. Several functions of IPv6 remain loosely defined or undefined but the protocols related on IPv6 are being developed continuously. It is clear that ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology is playing a important role in the evolution of the Internet as a transmission medium. In this paper, we suggest a design plan for the 6Bone overlayed on the existing ATM network, KOREN(Korea Research and Education Network). The planed 6Bone will become a good testbed to develop new networking technology and new services related on IPv6.
