  • The forces and moments exerted on humanoid robot foot are important information for controlling or monitoring the robot. Multi-axis force/moment sensor can be installed under humanoid robot foot to measure forces and moments. The sensor should have large stiffness to support the robot weight and small size not to disturb the motion of the robot. In this paper, we designed a 6-aixs force/moment sensor which has good accuracy, large measuring range, and new compact structure. In addition, the proposed sensor is evaluated using analytical method and FEM(Finite Elements Method) method. Finally, it turned out that it has good performance.

  • This paper describes the development of a 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor, which measures forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously, for stably grasping an unknown object. In order to safely grasp an unknown object using the robot's gripper, it should measure the force in the gripping direction and the force in the gravity direction, and perform the force control using the measured forces. Thus, the robot's gripper should be composed of 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor that can measure forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously. In this paper, the 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor for measuring forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously was newly modeled using several parallel-plate beams, designed, and fabricated. The characteristic test of made sensor was performed. and the result shows that interference errors of the developed sensor are less than 3%. Also, Robot's gripper with the 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor for the characteristic test of force control was manufactured, and the characteristic test for grasping an unknown object was performed using it. The fabricated gripper could grasp an unknown object stably. Thus, the developed 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor may be used for robot's gripper.

  • This paper describes the development of a high-precision measuring device with DSP (digital signal processor) for the accurate measurement of the 6-axis force/moment sensor mounted to a humanoid robot's ankle. In order to walk on uneven terrain safely, the foot should perceive the applied forces Fx, Fy, and Fz and moments Mx, My, and Mz to itself, and control the foot using the measured them. The applied forces and moments should be measured from two 6-axis force/moment sensors mounted to the feet, and the sensor is composed of Fx sensor, Fy sensor, Fz sensor, Mx sensor, My sensor and Mz sensor in a body (single block). In order to acquire output values from twelve sensors (two 6-axis force/moment sensor) accurately, the measuring device should get the function of high speed, and should be small in size. The commercialized measuring devices have the function of high speed, unfortunately, they are large in size and heavy in weight. In this paper, the high-precision measuring device for acquiring the output values from two 6-axis force/moment sensors was developed. It is composed of a DSP (150 MHz), a RAM (random access memory), amplifiers, capacities, resisters and so on. And the characteristic test was carried out.

  • When external force is applied to humanoid robot's head, humanoid robot's neck is rotated to prevent the damage of it. So, robot's neck have to perceive forces (Fx of x-direction, Fy of y-direction and Fz of z-direction) and moments (Mx of x-direction, My of y-direction and Mz of z-direction) using the attached 6-axis force/moment sensor. Thus, in this paper, 6-axis force/moment sensor was developed to sense the forces and moments applied to robot's head. The structure of 6-axis force/moment sensor was modeled newly, and it was designed using FEM software (ANSYS) and manufactured by attaching straingages on the sensing element, finally, the characteristic test of the sensor was carried out. As a result, it is confirmed that interference error is less than 3%. And, it is thought that the sensor can be used to measure the forces and the moments for humanoid robot's head.

  • This paper describes a humanoid robot's intelligent foot with two six-axis force/moment sensors. The developed humanoid robots didn't get the intelligent feet for walking on uneven surface safely. In order to walk on uneven surface safely, the robot should measure the reaction forces and moments applied on the sales of the feet, and they should be controlled with the measured the forces and moments. In this paper, an intelligent foot for a humanoid robot was developed. First, the body of foot was designed to be rotated the toe and the heel to all directions, second, the six-axis force/moment sensors were manufactured, third, the high-speed controller was manufactured using DSP(digital signal processor), fourth, the humanoid robot's intelligent foot was manufactured using the body of foot, two six-axis force/moment sensors and the high-speed controller, finally, the characteristic test of the intelligent foot was carried out. It is thought that the foot could be used for a humanoid robot.

  • Most serious stroke patients have the paralysis on their wrists, and can't use their hands freely. But their wrists can be recovered by rehabilitation exercises. Recently, professional rehabilitation therapeutists help stroke patients exercise their wrists in hospital. But it is difficult for them to rehabilitate their wrists, because the therapeutists are much less than stroke patients in number. Therefore, the wrist twist-exercise rehabilitation robot that can measure the twist force of the patients' wrists is needed and developed. In this paper, the six-axis force/moment sensor was designed appropriately for the robot. As a test result, the interference error of the six-axis force/moment sensor was less than 0.85%. It is thought that the sensor can be used to measure the wrist twist force of the patient.

  • Stroke patients can't use their hands because of the paralysis of their fingers. Their fingers are recovered by rehabilitating training, and the rehabilitating extent can be judged by grasping a spherical object. At present, the used object in hospital is only a spherical object, and can't measure the force of fingers. Therefore, doctors judge the rehabilitating extent by touching and watching at their fingers. So, the spherical object measuring system which can measure the force of their fingers should be developed. In this paper, the finger-force measuring system with a six-axis force/moment sensor which can measure the spherical-object grasping force is developed. The six-axis force/moment sensor was designed and fabricated, and the force measuring device was designed and manufactured using DSP (digital signal processing). Also, the grasping force test of men was performed using the developed finger-force measuring system, it was confirmed that the average force of men was about 120N.
