A Very Short Vertical Directional Coupler Switch with Polarization Independent Very High Extinction Ratios (편광에 관계없이 매우 높은 소멸비와 짧은 길이를 가지는 수직 방향성 결합기 스위치)

  • We propose a novel vertical directional coupler switch using a vertical directional coupler with polarization independent coupling lengths employing the doublesided deep-ridge waveguide structure. This switch is composed of a switching operation induced section with symmetric structures and an extinction ratio enhanced section with asymmetric structures. We present design methods and examples for this switch with very short lengths and very high extinction ratios larger than 30 dB for both TE and TM modes in cases of both cross and bar states.

A Study on Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Local-Hardening Heat-Treated Automotive Panel (국부 경화 열처리된 차체 부품의 기계적 성질과 미세조직에 관한 연구)

  • A steel with chemical composition, 0.22% C, 0.25% Si, 1.26% Mn, 0.22% Cr, 0.04% Ti, 0.0042% B, and a microstructure of ferrite and spheroidized cementite has been press-formed to automotive center pillar followed by local-hardening heat-treatment. Hardness, tensile properties, fractography, microstructure and surface roughness of local-hardening heat-treated automotive center pillar have been examined. The directly heated and quenched area had fully martensitic structure with Vickers hardenss in the range of 500 to 510. The heat affected area close to the directly heated area showed dual-phase structure of ferrite and martensite. The width of the heat-treated and heat-affected areas after the local-hardening heat treatment was ranging from 32 mm to 50 mm. The surface of the local-hardening heat-treated center pillar revealed some temper color as a consequence of the oxidation during the heat treatment, but the surface roughness was not affected by the local-hardening heat treatment.

CCD Image Sensor with Variable Reset Operation

  • The reset operation of a CCD image sensor was improved using charge trapping of a MOS structure to realize a loe voltage driving. A DC bias generating circuit was added to the reset structure which sets reference voltage and holds the signal charge to be detected. The generated DC bias is added to the reset pulse to give an optimized voltage margin to the reset operation, and is controlled by adjustment of the threshold voltage of a MOS transistor in the circuit. By the pulse-type stress voltage applied to the gate, the electrons and holes were injected to the gate dielectrics, and the threshold voltage could be adjusted ranging from 0.2V to 5.5V, which is suitable for controlling the incomplete reset operation due to the process variation. The charges trapped in the silicon nitride lead to the positive and negative shift of the threshold voltage, and this phenomenon is explained by Poole-Frenkel conduction and Fowler-Nordheim conduction. A CCD image sensor with $492(H){\;}{\times}{\;}510(V)$ pixels adopting this structure showed complete reset operation with the driving voltage of 3.0V. The resolution chart taken with the image sensor shows no image flow to the illumination of 30 lux, even in the driving voltage of 3.0V.

Structural response of concrete gravity dams under blast loads

  • Concrete dams are important structures due to retaining amount of water on their reservoir. So such kind of structures have to be designed against static and dynamic loads. Especially considering on critical importance against blasting threats and environmental safety, dams have to be examined according to the blast loads. This paper aims to investigate structural response of concrete gravity dams under blast loads. For the purpose Sarıyar Concrete Gravity Dam in Turkey is selected for numerical application with its 85 m of reservoir height (H), 255 m of reservoir length (3H), 72 m of bottom and 7 m of top widths. In the study, firstly 3D finite element model of the dam is constituted using ANSYS Workbench software considering dam-reservoir-foundation interaction and a hydrostatic analysis is performed without blast loads. Then, nearly 13 tons TNT explosive are considered 20 m away from downstream of the dam and this is modeled using ANSYS AUTODYN software. After that explicit analyses are performed through 40 milliseconds. Lastly peak pressures obtained from analyses are compared to empirical equations in the literature and UFC 3-340-02 standard which provide unified facilities criteria for structures to resist the effects of accidental explosions. Also analyses' results such as displacements, stresses and strains obtained from both hydrostatic and blasting analysis models are compared to each other. It is highlighted from the study that blasting analysis model has more effective than the only hydrostatic analysis model. So it is highlighted from the study that the design of dams should be included the blast loads.

Response of the Adolescents to the School Uniform Regulations according to Personal Character and Clothing Needs (청소년의 성격특성과 의복욕구에 따른 교복복장규제에 대한 반응)

  • The response of the adolescents toward school uniform regulations according to personal character and clothing needs was studied. To carry out this experiment, questionnaires were administered to 514 students in middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed with Factor analysis(Varimax rotation), Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Frequencies Statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS WIN 15.0. By surveying on actual condition of uniform regulation in school, it was found that the existing uniform regulation was unnecessarily strict and caused stress leading a negative educational effect. Based on the relationship among the degree of regulation, stress, and student attitude toward school uniform regulation, stress and negative attitude to uniform regulation increased as the degree of regulation increased, resulting in an decrease in observance behavior of students. Since the stress from the school uniform regulation can be reduced by establishing rational law, which induced voluntary conduct of student to obey, it is important for student to participate in establishment of adoptable and reasonable school uniform regulation law.

A study on the washing efficiency with various washing conditions - Focus on detergent concentration and temperature - (인공오염포의 세탁조건에 따른 세척효율에 관한 연구 - 세제농도와 용수온도를 중심으로 -)

  • Nowdays, costumer's washing behavior were often times for remove to light-duty dirt. The purpose of this study is to provide the most effective washing conditions of detergent concentration and temperature conditions for help save energy and water resources required to the washing process. Washing conditions were as follows: 2 kinds of detergents and 4 types of artificially soiled fabrics were used. Detergent concentration was 0%, -10%, and -20% below the recommended conc. of manufacturer's standard. Temperature of bath was $20^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$. The results of this study were as follows: First, washing performances of all kind of artificially soiled fabric improved as the temperature of bath at $40^{\circ}C$. Second, the test was conducted under the condition of decreasing respectively -10% and -20% below of the recommended concentration of manufacturer's standard detergent. The average of washing efficiency was not considerably affected by the reduction of 10% below of manufacturer's standard. Third, in case of the water temperature were $20^{\circ}C$, polyester/cotton blended fiber were higher degree of washing efficiency than cotton fiber.

Fuzzy Applications in a Multi-Machine Power System Stabilizer

  • This paper proposes the use of fuzzy applications to a 4-machine and 10-bus system to check stability in open conditions. Fuzzy controllers and the excitation of a synchronous generator are added. Power system stabilizers (PSSs) are added to the excitation system to enhance damping during low frequency oscillations. A fuzzy logic power system stabilizer (PSS) for stability enhancement of a multi-machine power system is also presented. To attain stability enhancement, speed deviation ($\Delta\omega$) and acceleration ($\Delta\varpi$) of the Kota Thermal synchronous generator rotor are taken as inputs to the fuzzy logic controller. These variables have significant effects on the damping of generator shaft mechanical oscillations. The stabilizing signals are computed using fuzzy membership functions that are dependent on these variables. The performance of the fuzzy logic PSS is compared with the open power system, after which the simulations are tested under different operating conditions and changes in reference voltage. The simulation results are quite encouraging and satisfactory. Similarly, the system is tested for the different defuzzification methods, and based on the results, the centroid method elicits the best possible system response.

Analysis of Sheath Circulating Current on Multi-underground Transmission Cables using EMTP (다회선 지중송전 케이블에서의 EMTP를 이용한 시스 순환전류 분석)

  • The use of underground transmission cables has continuously increased in densely inhabited urban and suburban area. Due to a increasing demand of underground cables, two or more circuits are installed in parallel for several kilometers. It, however, has not been realized that the sheath circulating current is generated in the system where a large number of cables are laid in the same route. In this paper, sheath circulating current is analyzed by the EMTP and compared with the measured values. Unbalance arrangement of cables or cross-bonding length causes a significant effect on the magnitude of the sheath current. Sheath circulating current could be greatly reduced by the symmetrical configuration of cables and installation of the impedance reduction system. Especially, with the impedance system of 1Ω installed, the sheath circulating current is reduced by 85.7%.

A Study of Parents' Satisfaction and Needs for Foodservice Quality of the Childcare Centers in Chungnam Asan Area (보육시설 급식에 대한 부모 만족도 및 요구도 조사 - 아산지역을 중심으로 -)

  • We tried to find out parents' satisfaction and needs for foodservice quality of the childcare centers with an intention of improving it. Self-completed questionnaires were randomly collected from the parents of children in 174 childcare centers around Asan and were analyzed. Most of respondents were mothers who were housewives with college degrees (69%) in their 30's (80%). They thought nutrition (50%) and food hygiene (43%) were the most important factors for decision. Eighty percent of parents recognized the strong relationship between foodservice quality and childrens' mental and physical development. Most centers (94%) were delivering menu notices home, so parents well recognized the center's foodservice situation and problems of their kids' eating habits. The parents' satisfaction scores were 3.26 out of 5-point scale. The biggest dissatisfaction was from no variation in menu, but remarkable appreciation was from the effect of foodservice on the correction for kids' unbalanced diet habit. They had demands for improvement of nutritious menu and professional nutrition teacher in charge of foodservice and nutrition education for children and also for parents.

The Wave Diffraction in a Partial-Reflecting Harbor due to Submarine Pit (Pit에 의한 부분반사율을 갖는 항내에서의 파랑 회절에 관한 연구)

  • The present study is to estimate the effect of diffracted wave fields inside a harbor, around harbor entrance and outer breakwater, when a navigation channel is dredged in the vicinity of the a harbor entrance. The wave field of the problem is considered to be two-dimensional plane and the configuration of the submarine pit on the sea bed is designated by a single rectangular type. The numerical simulation is performed by using the solution of the Greet function based on the boundary integral equation. The results of this study is illustrated by applying the normal incidence and partially reflecting boundaries.
