Background: This study aimed to compare the subscapularis muscle volume between the intact groups (group I) and supraspinatus tendon tear groups (group T) based on the sex and three different age groups. Methods: Subjects with a group I and subjects with group T without any other lesions were retrospectively evaluated from among patients who received a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan between January 2011 and December 2013. The MRI scans were studied by a consultant radiologist. The subscapularis muscle volume was compared according to the age and sex; the age groups were categorized as patients in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. The volume of subscapularis muscle was measured by three-dimensional reconstructed images acquired through the axial section of 1.5T MRI. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed between subscapularis muscle volume of the group I and group T, except for male patients in their 50s (group I: $100,650mm^3$ vs. group T: $106,488mm^3$) and 60s (group I: $76,347mm^3$ vs. group T: $99,549mm^3$) (p<0.05). Males had a larger mean volume of subscapularis muscle than females, and the subscapularis muscle volume decreased in a linear manner with increasing age. Conclusions: Decrease in subscapularis muscle volume was observed with increasing age, and the impact of supraspinatus tear on subscapularis muscle volume is age and sex dependent.
Dental caries is one of the most common oral diseases in the world. Glucosyltransferase (Gtase) of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) plays an important role in the develo pment of dental caries. For the purpose to develop anti- caries, we examined the effect of metabolites isolated from Streptomyces sp. M-20 on Gtase and the growth of S. mutans. Streptomyces sp. M-20 isolated from Mongolian soil showed 95~96% sequence homology with that of Streptomyces lin- colnensis. The metabolites of Streptomyces sp. M-20 were partially purified by extraction with ethyl acetate, silica gel column chromatography and preparative TLC. Partially purified metabolite, red colored component (MR-20) in ethyl acetate fraction showed potent antibacterial activitiy against S. mutans and inhibitory activity against Gtase purified from S. mutans, while another isolated yellow component (MY-20) showed no activity against S. mutans. The inhibitory activity of MR-20 against Gtase was confirmed by activity staining on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The concentration of MR-20 for 50% inhibition $(IC_{50})$ against Gtase activity was $60{\mu}g/ml$. These results suggest that MR-20 can be developed for antibacterial agent and anticaries.

This paper reports a high power 60 GHz push-push oscillator fabricated using $0.12{\mu}m$ metamorphic high electron-mobility transistors(mHEMTs). The devices with a $0.12{\mu}m$ gate-length exhibited good DC and RF characteristics such as a maximum drain current of 700 mA/mm, a peak gm of 660 mS/mm, an $f_T$ of 170 GHz, and an $f_{MAX}$ of more than 300 GHz. By combining two sub-oscillators having $6{\times}50{\mu}m$ periphery mHEMT, the push-push oscillator achieved a 6.3 dBm of output power at 59.5 GHz with more than - 35 dBc fundamental suppression. The phase noise of - 81.5 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset was measured. This is one of the highest output power obtained using mHEMT technology without buffer amplifier, and demonstrates the potential of mHEMT technology for cost effective millimeter-wave commercial applications.
The diversity and change of microbial communities during kimchi fermentation at $4^{\circ}C$ were analyzed by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). Kimchi samples were taken every 5 days over the fermentation periods (for 60 days) to extract total DNA for DGGE analysis. Touchdown polymerase chain reaction was performed to amplify the V3 region of 16S rRNA gene. Sequencing results of partial 16S rDNA amplicons from DGGE profiles revealed that lactic acid bacteria (LAB), especially Weissella koreensis, Lactobacillus sakei and Leuconostoc gelidum were dominants in kimchi fermentation at $4^{\circ}C$. And we knew that W. koreensis steadily existed throughout the whole fermentation period, also Lb. sakei and Leuc. gelidum appeared from 10th day and 30th day of fermentation time, respectively and then these species were to be dominant microorganisms.
The present work was an attempt to investigate the applicability of truncated mooring systems to KRISO's deep ocean engineering basin (DOEB) with ratios of 1:100, 1:60, and 1:50. The depth of the DOEB is 15 m. Therefore, the corresponding truncated depths for this study were equal to 1500 m, 900 m, and 750 m. The investigation focused on both the static and dynamic characteristics of the mooring system. It was shown, in a static pull-out test, that the restoring force of a FPSO vessel could be modified to a good level of agreement for all three truncation cases. However, when the radius of the mooring site was reduced according to the truncation factor, the surge motion response during a free-decay test showed a significant difference from the full-depth model. However, the reduction of this discrepancy was achieved by increasing the radius up to its maximum possible value while considering the size of the DOEB. Especially, in terms of the time period, the difference was reduced from 24.0 to 5.3 s for a truncation ratio of 1:100, 54.1 to 8.6 s for a truncation ratio of 1:60, and 31.7 to 3.9 s for a truncation ratio of 1:50. As a result, the study verified the applicability of the truncated mooring system to the DOEB, and therefore it could represent the full-depth mooring system relatively well in terms of the static and dynamic conditions.

Effects of nanoparticles (NPs) on skin corrosion and irritation using three-dimensional human skin models were investigated based on the test guidelines of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD TG431 and TG439). EpiDerm$^{TM}$ skin was incubated with NPs including those harboring iron (FeNPs), aluminum oxide (AlNPs), titanium oxide (TNPs), and silver (AgNPs) for a defined time according to the test guidelines. Cell viabilities of EpiDerm$^{TM}$ skins were measured by the 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2.5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide based method. FeNPs, AlNPs, TNPs, and AgNPs were non-corrosive because the viability was more than 50% after 3 min exposure and more than 15% after 60 min exposure, which are the non-corrosive criteria. All NPs were also non-irritants, based on viability exceeding 50% after 60 min exposure and 42 hr post-incubation. Release of interleukin 1-alpha and histopathological analysis supported the cell viability results. These findings suggest that FeNPs, AlNPs, TNPs, and AgNPs are 'non-corrosive' and 'non-irritant' to human skin by a globally harmonized classification system.

Fourteen phenolic compounds(benzoic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, protocatechuic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, gallic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, (+)-catechin, quercetin, rutin, catechol, chlorogenic acid and L-ascorbic acid) were examined for their effects on the anticarigenic activity. Among tested samples, catechol was significantly inhibited the S. mutans, exhibiting an clear zone 18.5-19.5mm by 10 mg/disc level. The minimal inhibition concentration(MIC) of the phenolic compounds for Streptococcus mutans, M1 and M2 strain were determined as 2,000 ppm, whereas catechol was 1,000 ppm. The activity of glucosyltransferase(GTase) was significantly inhibited by catechol, at 10 ppm(58.7%), 50 ppm(60.7%) and 100 ppm(88.4%) and 500 ppm(89.6%), respectively. Among them, catechol showed most significant anticariogenic activity as well as inhibition of GTase activity.
In the present work, novel orange peel was extracted with 100%EtOH (ethanol) and fractionated into four fractions namely F1, F2, F3, F4 which were eluted from paper chromatographs using 100%EtOH, 80%EtOH, 50%EtOH and pure water respectively. The crude extract and its four fractions were evaluated for their total polyphenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and radical scavenging activity using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) assay. Their cytotoxic activity using WST assay and DNA damage by agarose gel electrophoresis were also evaluated in a human leukemia HL-60 cell line. The findings revealed that F4 had the highest TPC followed by crude extract, F2, F3 and F1. However, the crude extract had the highest TFC followed by F4, F3, F2, and F1. Depending on the values of $EC_{50}$ and trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity, F4 possessed the strongest antioxidant activity while F1 and F2 displayed weak antioxidant activity. Further, incubation HL-60 cells with extract/fractions for 24h caused an inhibition of cell viability in a concentration-dependent manner. F3 and F4 exhibited a high antiproliferative activity with a narrow range of $IC_{50}$ values ($45.9-48.9{\mu}g/ml$). Crude extract exhibited the weakest antiproliferative activity with an $IC_{50}$ value of $314.89{\mu}g/ml$. Analysis of DNA fragmentation displayed DNA degradation in the form of a smear-type pattern upon agarose gel after incubation of HL-60 cells with F3 and F4 for 6 h. Overall, F3 and F4 appear to be good sources of phytochemicals with antioxidant and potential anticancer activities.
In this study, integrated hybrid system (IHS) composed of two alternatively-operating UV/photocatalytic reactor (AOPR) process and biofilter processes of a biofilter system having two units (i.e., Rup and Rdn) with an improved design (R reactor) and a conventional biofilter (L reactor) was constructed, and its transient behavior was observed to perform the successful treatment of waste air containing ethanol and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). At the IHS-operating stages of HA1, HA2 and HA3T of reversed feed direction, the AOPR process showed not only ethanol-removal efficiencies of 55, 50 and 45%, respectively, but also H2S-removal efficiencies of 70, 60 and 37%, respectively. In particular, a drastic decrease of H2S-removal efficiency at the stage of HA3T was observed due to a doubling of H2S-inlet concentration fed to AOPR from 10 ppmv to 20 ppmv at the stage of HA3T. The order of ethanol-breakthroughs and the order of the magnitude of ethanol-removal efficiencies at the sampling ports of each unit of R reactor at the stages of HA1, HB1, HA2, HB2, and the first half of HA3T, were reversed, respectively, at the stages of the second half of HA3T and HB3T. In case of H2S, R reactor did not show H2S-breakthrough as prominent as the ethanol-breakthrough, but showed the trend similar to the ethanol-breakthrough.

The effects of air temperature and sample thickness on drying kinetics of strawberry leather were investigated. The mathematical modeling was performed by using three thin-layer dying models. The independent variables were sample thickness (S1 = 1.8, S2 = 2.7, and S3 = 3.6mm) and air temperature (50, 60, 70, and 80$^{\circ}$C). All samples took place in the falling rate period. The values of effective moisture diffusivity, D$_{eff}$ varied from 2.40 to 12.1$^{\times}$10-9m$^{2}$/s depending on drying conditions. The values of activation energy, E$_{a}$ were 35.57, 33.14, and 30.46 KJ/mol for each sample of S1, S2, and S3. The two-term exponential model was found to satisfactorily describe the thin-layer drying kinetics of strawberry leather.
