Projection and Burnup Trends of Spent Nuclear Fuel in Korea (국내 사용후핵연료 현황 분석)

  • Inventories, projections, and characteristics of spent nuclear fuel(SNF) generated from domestic nuclear power plants were updated to support high-level waste disposal system design. The historical and projected inventory by the end 2055 is expected to be 20,500 and 14,800MTU for PWR and CANDU spent nuclear fuel, respectively The ratio of quantity for TEX>$17{\times}17$ SNF was shown to be 0.6 as of 2003. The amount of TEX>$17{\times}17$ SNF, however, will be less than that of TEX>$16{\times}16$ KSFA after 2012, while the quantity of TEX>$16{\times}16$ KSFA will reach to 70% of the total spent fuels in the 2055. Average turnup of SNF revealed ~36GWD/MTU and ~40GWD/MTU for the period of 1994-1999 and 2000-2003, respectively. It is expected that the average burnup of SNF will exceed 45GWD/MTU at the end of 2000's. Therefore, it seems reasonable to use the TEX>$17{\times}17$ 4.5w/o, 45GWD/MTU as the Reference SNF at present state. The TEX>$16{\times}16$ KSFA 4.5w/o, 55GWD/MTU, however, should be Reference SNF after ~2010.

  • This paper presents a dual-band mixer for multi-standards of IEEE 802.1la/b/g using a single local oscillator, so as to improve the defects of legacy systems. Those systems have duplicate local oscillators and mixers to handle dual band signals, increasing complexity of system and power loss. The proposed circuit shows 11.6 dB, 16.8 dB of conversion loss and 8.77 dBm, 12.5 dBm of IIP3(Input 3rd Intercept Point) for respective bands when the two RF inputs of 2.452 and 5.260 GHz are down-converted to the identical 356 MHz If frequency. The RF-LO isolations are measured 36 dB, 41 dB at each frequencies and over 50 dB of LO-IF isolations are achieved at all cases.

Effect of Extract from Glycyorrhiza uralensis and Curcula longa on Shelf-life and Quality of Bread (감초와 강황 추출물 첨가에 의한 식빵의 저장성 및 품질 증진 효과)

  • This study examined the improvement of bread quality with Curcula longa and Glycyorrhiza uralensis extract (CGE). When counted, the viable cell number in bread with 5% of CGE dramatically was decreased by about 1 log cycle as compared to that of bread without CGE. With regard to oxidation, the content of malonaldehyde diminished in breads with increasing amounts of CGE. Breads with 1 and 5% of CGE were shown to have the highest antioxidative effect. The moisture contents of bread with CGE and bread without CGE were not much different during the early storage period. After six days of storage, however, the moisture contents of bread without CGE and bread with 0.5% of CGE decreased about 16%. On the other hand, the moisture contents of bread with 1% and 5% of CGE did not change dramatically. Their moisture content was decreased by only 4% during the same storage period. Although color, lightness and redness gradually diminished with increasing amounts of CGE in bread, conversely yellowness increased. In the sensory evaluation, bread with 0.5% and 1% of CGE scored the highest: 3.66 and 3.67 out of 5, respectively. Bread with 5% of CGE scored the lowest of the various bread tested. From these results, the addition of 1% CGE in bread had a good effect on improvement of preservation and development of quality.

  • In order to the effective utility of marine by-product, crude lecithin was isolated from skipjack viscera oil and the lecithin was refined by bleaching and deodorization. Crude lecithin was separated from the skipjack viscera oil degummed with 0.4 ml of citric acid per 100 ml of the oil. Bleaching was effected by adding $5\%$ activated clay and treating for $40^{\circ}C$ for 90 min under vacuum, and deodorization was effectively conducted by steam distillation at $130^{\circ}C$ for 60 min under 4 ton of vacuum. The major fatty acids of the skipjack viscera oil. were 16:0. 18:1 (n-9), 22:6 (n-3), 18:0, and 16:1 (n-7). Crude and refined lecithins contained more aproximately $7\~18\%$ of 22:6 (n-3) than raw oil, the skipjack viscera oil.

Cooking Properties of Akibare and Milyang 23 Brown Rice (아끼바레와 밀양23호 현미의 취반특성)

  • Cooking rate calculated from hardness change, and gelatinization aspects observed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope of brown rice were investigated. Optimum ratio of water to rice of Akibare and Milyang 23 was 1.65 and 1.73, respectively. Milyang 23 was cooked at a faster rate than Akibare. Cooking rate of brown rice was about an half of white rice. The temperature dependence of cooking rate of brown rice was found to be relatively low. The activation energy for cooking were in the range of 15,000 to 16,400 cal/mol at 80 to $100^{\circ}C$ and 8,200 to 8,600 cal/mol at 100 to $130^{\circ}C$. The gelatinization degree determined from X-ray diffractometry was approximately consistent with the cooking degree expressed by reciprocal hardness.

  • A two-phase UASB system was operated for high-rate treatment of concentrated distillery wastewater. The phase separation was obtained by adjusting pH in each reactor. When influent SS concentration was 4.1/g/l, the first phase UASB reactor was effectively operated up to the loading rate of 16.5kg $COD/m^3.day$, producing 3.9g HAc/l.day. In the methanogenic UASB reactor, loading rate up to 44kg $COD/m^3.day$ could be applied while removing 80% of influent COD with a specific gas production of 16.5 l/l. day. After the formation granular sludge in both reactors, it was possible to maintain the appropriate pH in the first phase only by recirculating the effluent from methanogenic phase without the addition of alkaline chemicals.

Comparison of characteristics and taste components of oyster mushoom with cultivars (느타리버섯의 품종별 특성 및 맛성분 비교)

  • In this study, the characteristics and taste components of six different oyster mushroom cultivars (Gonji-7ho, Santari, Baekseon, Chunchu, Suhan, and Heuktari) were analyzed and compared. The Heuktari mushroom pileus had the lowest brightness index (32.8) and remained dark (brightness index: 30.5) even after blanching. The moisture content of the mushrooms was approximately 90%. The salinity and sugar contents were highest in Heuktari (5.7% and 7.1%, respectively). Gonji -7ho had the highest contraction rates, with a length contraction rate of 16.4% and thickness contraction rate of 23.9%. The total amino acid content was highest in Heuktari (537.8 mg/100 g), but the glutamine content contributing to umami taste was highest in Santari (59.4 mg/100 g) and the aspartic acid content was highest in Baekseon (33.1 mg/100 g). Among the 5?-nucleotide components, guanosine monophosphate, which enhances umami taste, was highest in Baekseon (0.7 mg/g). Baekseon was also calculated to have the highest umami taste concentration based on amino acid and nucleic acid contents (12.7 g/100 g). The results of this study serve as valuable basic data on the physicochemical characteristics of oyster mushroom cultivars grown in Korea.

  • 일본에서는 금년도에 들어와 우라늄농축기술 개발이 활기를 띠고 있다. 동력로$\cdot$핵연료개발사업단이 '84년부터 건설한 원심분리법에 의한 우라늄농축원형플랜트가 4월 25일 본격적인 가동에 들어갔으며, 정부의 지원을 받아 욱화성이 연구개발을 추진해온 화학교환법에 의한 우라늄농축이 세계최초로 5월 16일 원자력발전소의 핵연료로 사용할 수 있는 $3\%$ 농축에 성공하였다. 다음은 일본의 우라늄농축기술 개발현황이다.

  • 신경컴퓨터에 대한 연구는 1940년대부터 시작되었다. 이 신경 컴퓨터는 현재 패턴 인식, 음성인식 분야에서 성공적인 결과를 제시하고 있으며, 기존의 컴퓨터보다 우월한 응용 분야로 생각되어지는 분야로는 학습, 인식 등으로서 정밀도를 요하는 수학적 계산 분야는 디지탈 컴퓨터가 역시 우세하다. 따라서 장래의 컴퓨터는 기존의 디지탈 컴퓨터와 신경 컴퓨터가 하이브리드 형태로 된 것으로 발전할 것이다.

  • 지난 3월 방콕에서 열린 Foucs Asia에 참석하여 양계 관련 주제를 들었다. 그 중 동물 약품 분야의 주제로는 새로운 기술의 백신들에 대한 소개와 감보로에 대한 연구, 콕시듐과 괴사성 장염 등을 다루고 있었다. 또한 식중독과 식품위생 부분에서 살모넬라(SE)도 주제가 되었다. 그 중 감보로에 대한 몇 가지 진실과 오해, 그리고 새로운 개념을 정리해 보고자 한다.
