AE Source Location in Planar Defects using Spot Excitation (Spot 가진을 이용한 평면결함의 음향방출 위치표정)

  • From the results of AE(Acoustic Emission) source location occurred by the spot exciting as suggested in this research, it has been confirmed that AE technique is quite fruitful in figuring out the location of the occurrence, form, size and direction of the defects. As the results of examining the distribution of event for the angle of crack $\alpha$ to Xs and Ys, as the increases from $0^{\circ}$ ~ $90^{\circ}$, gradually changes its width from the axis Xs to the axis Ys. So event appears approximately similar in its size at the angle of crack $\alpha$=$45^{\circ}$, yet opposite when $\alpha$ is lager. It is believed that this is a phenomenon where its crack legnth $\alpha$, assumed as a planar defect, is to be prcjected toward the direction with a larger size. Thus, it is expected that the application of the experimental method suggested in this study would make it possible to identify the location of the defect in the material in the nondestructive way.

  • Increasing demands on precision machining using CNC machines have necessitated that the tool to move with a position error as small as possible in 3-dimensional (3D) space. This paper presents the simultaneous 3D machining with a retrofitted PC-NC milling machine. To achieve the simultaneous 3-axis motions, a new precision interpolation algorithm for 3D Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline(NURBS) curve is used. With this accurate and efficient algorithm for the generation of complex. 3D shapes, a real-time NURBS interpolator was developed using a PC and the simultaneous 3D machining is accomplished.

  • As an electron scanning microscopes has traditionally required a considerably large room equipped with several service and pipe lines due to its inherent size. As an alternative, a small sized SEM, simply called a mini-SEM, is introduced even if the performance in terms of magnification and resolution is a little inferior to a classical thermal SEM. However, the size and fabrication cost is dramatically reduced, dedicating to opening a new market. The optical system in the mini-SEM is redesigned and specimen stage is quitely reduced and vertical axis is excluded. The design tools and calibration techniques to develope the mini-SEM are introduced and its performance is verified through numerical analysis experiments.

  • Condenser lens and objective lens are used to demagnify the image of the crossover to the final spot size. In lens, electrons are focused by magnetic fields. This fields is fringing field. It is important in electron focusing. Electron focusing occurs the radial component field and axial component field. Radial component produces rotational force and axial component produces radial force. Radial force causes the electron's trajectory to curve toward the optic axis and corss it. Focal length decreases as the current of lens increases. In this paper, we use the focal length for desiging the hardware of lens current control and present the results.

  • This paper research the trend of technology of the high efficient and reliability machining center and high flexibility parallel manipulator machining center including linear motor machining center, submicron machining center and direct drive 5 axis machining center using patent information of Korea, U.S.A, Japan and Europe. By using this, the technique level of Korea, the International trend of technology and condition of cooperation research was estimated and the necessity of research and development performance about the machining center for the IT part processing were inquired.

  • This paper describes a new surface finishing process which uses magnetic abrasive polishing. This is applied to automatic finishing of die & mold surface. Nowadays, most of die & mold meanufaturing procedures have been automated by the introduction of NC machine tool and CAD/CAM system. But the surface finishing of die & mold must be done by hand work of well-skilled workers. Though many attempts were tried in the past 15 years to eliminate this hand work, the automatic finishing of die & mold surface with 3D curvature has not been achieved yet. New magnetic abrasive finishing process is thought as one of the possible methods for the automation of 3D surface finishing. In order to improve the grindability of the method, ultra-high speed and 5-axis machining was introduce. The magnetic abrasive polishing which has adopted these methods was confirmend to improve the efficiencyof die & mold surface finishing.

  • There are many difficulties in automatic polishing for die & mold surfaces. Even though the process has been studied in the past 15 years, it has not been achieved yet, but by the process of actual hand work of well-skilled workers. A new magentic assisted polishing process, which is one of the potential method for automation of surface finishing has been studied in the past 10 years by colleagues. The process has many merits, but on the other hand also has demerits, one being low efficiency of gridability by comparision with grinding wheel polish. Therefore, some attempts were tried to improve the grindability by adopting electropolishing, ultra-high speed milling, 5-axis controlled machine etc... most recently by collegues. This study also aims to improve the efficiency of polishing by introducing the easily-polished shape surface milling method equalizing the tool feed per tooth to the pick feed. This milling method was experimentally confirmed to have sufficient grindability to polish milled surface (with 10 .mu. mRmax surface roughness) into mirror surface (with 0.4 .mu. mRmax surface roughness).

  • In recent years, medium- to large-scale transportation machinery and machine tool manufacturing process lines have shown a trend toward centralization, softening, lightening, and slimming to reduce costs and increase productivity. This has increased the demand for vertical articulated robots. When developing and introducing a heavy weight-handling robot that can be easily applied to existing production lines, it is expected to have a great effect in securing industrial competitiveness by solving industrial issues such as the decreased productivity and increased risk of accidents due to work involving heavy lifting. In this study, we design a 6-axis robot mechanism with a heavy load-handling capacity of 700kg or more for large-sized materials of various types supplied in small quantities.

Fatigue Characteristics and FEM Analysis of 18Ni(200) Maraging Steel (18Ni 마르에이징강의 피로특성 및 유한요소해석)

  • Effects of Nb(Niobium) contents and solution annealing on the strength and fatigue lift of 18%Ni maraging steel commonly using in aircraft, space field, nuclear energy, and vehicle etc. were investigated. Also the fatigue life stress intensity factor were compared experiment result and FEA(finite element analysis) result. The more Nb content, the higher or the lower fatigue lift on base metal specimens or solution annealed specimens showing that the fatigue life was almost the same. The maximum stresses of X, Y, and Z axis direction showed about 2.12${\times}$10$^2$MPa, 4.40${\times}$10$^2$MPa and 1.32${\times}$10$^2$MPa respectively. The Y direction stress showed the highest because of the same direction as the loading direction. The fatigue lives showed about 7% lower FEA result than experiment result showing almost invariable error every analyzed cycle. Stress intensity factor of the FEA result was lower about 3.5∼10% than that of the experiment result showing that the longer fatigue crack length, the higher error. It considered that the cause for the difference was the modeled crack tip having always the same shape and condition regardless of the crack growth.
