Electrochemical and Thermal Property Enhancement of Natural Graphite Electrodes via a Phosphorus and Nitrogen Incorporating Surface Treatment

  • An efficient wet process approach to modifying natural graphite (NG) electrodes for Li-ion batteries is introduced in this paper. With homogeneous mixing and thermal decomposition of NG with diammonium phosphate ((NH4)2HPO4), phosphorus and nitrogen were successfully incorporated into the surface layer of NG particles. Electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses demonstrated that the surface was well modified by this process. As a result, the treated NG electrodes exhibited much improved electrochemical performance over pristine NG at two different temperatures: 25 ℃ and 50 ℃. Excellent capacity retention of 95.6% was obtained after 100 cycles at 50 ℃. These enhanced properties were confirmed in a morphology analysis on the cross-sections of the NG electrodes after galvanostatic cycling. The improved cycle and thermal stabilities can be attributed to the surface treatment with phosphorus and nitrogen; the treatment formed a stable solid electrolyte interphase layer that performed well when undergoing Li insertion and extraction cycling.

고감도 나노-바이오센서를 위한 나노로드 전극 표면 개질에 관한 연구 (A Study on Surface Modification of Nanorod Electrodes for Highly Sensitive Nano-biosensor)

  • 많은 생체 친화적인 센서들 중에서 avidin-biotin system은 높은 상호 특이적인 친화성으로 인하여 많은 생물학적인 응용 연구에 이용되어 왔다. 효과적인 avidin-biotin 바이오센서 개발을 위해 avidin-biotin 간의 상호 반응성을 증대시키기 위해서는 높은 표면적을 가지는 전극이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 목적을 위해 gold nanorods electrode를 사용하였다. 전기화학적인 특성은 cyclic voltammetry (CV)와 electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)를 가지고 redox couple $[Fe(CN)_6]^{3-/4-}$를 사용하여 다양한 biotin의 농도에 따라 분석되었다. 결론적으로 nanorod의 전극은 1 ng/mL보다 낮은 biotin의 농도도 감지할 수 있음을 보였다.

전기화학적인 방법을 이용한 탄소나노튜브 전극상의 오스뮴 착물의 고정화 및 혈당센서에 관한 응용 (Electrochemical Immobilization of Osmium Complex onto the Carbon Nano-Tube Electrodes and its Application for Glucose sensor)

  • Multi-wall carbon nano-tube(MWCNT)를 이용해 screen printed carbon electrodes(SPCEs)을 제작하여 혈당센서의 선택성과 감도가 증가됨을 확인 할 수 있었다. 효소촉매반응을 위한 탄소전극으로의 전자이동의 매개체로 8족 금속 원소인 오스뮴을 중심금속으로 일차 아민을 포함하는 피리딘(pyridine) 리간드를 배위시켜 $[Os(dme-bpy)_2(4-aPy)Cl]^{+/2+}$를 합성하였다. 합성된 오스뮴 착물은 순환 전압전류법을 포함한 다양한 전기화학분석방법을 이용하여 전기적 성질을 조사하였다. 전기적 흡착방법을 이용하여 일차 아민을 갖는 착화합물을 전극위에 고정화 하였다. 오스뮴이 고정화된 MWCNT-SPCEs는 일반적인 carbon electrode보다 약 100배가량의 오스뮴이 흡착됨을 확인 할 수 있었다. (${\tau}_0=2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-9}\;mole/cm^2$) 마지막으로 당(Glucose)과 당 분해효소(Glucose Oxidase, GOx)에 의한 촉매반응의 전류를 확인하였고, 당 농도에 따라 선형 변화하는 전류의 양도 확인하였다.

전도성 에폭시를 이용한 직물 위에 구현된 건식 생체전위 전극의 연구 (Study on Micro Dried Bio-potential Electrodes Using Conductive Epoxy on Textile Fabrics)

  • In this paper, micro dried bio-potential electrodes are demonstrated for sEMG (surface ElectroMyoGraphic) signal measurement using conductive epoxy on the textile fabric. Micro dried bio-potential electrodes on the textile fabric substrate have several advantages over the conventional wet/dry electrodes such as good feeling of wearing, possibility of extended-wearing due to the good ventilation. Also these electrodes on the textile fabric can easily apply to the curved skin surface. These electrodes are fabricated by the screen-printing process with the size of $1mm{\times}10mm$ and the resultant resistance of these electrodes have the average value of $0.4{\Omega}$. The conventional silver chloride electrode shows the average value of $0.3{\Omega}$. However, the electrode on the textile fabric are able to measure the sEMG signal without feeling of difference and this electrode shows the lower resistance of $1.03{\Omega}$ than conventional silver chloride electrode with $2.8{\Omega}$ in the condition of the very sharp curve surface (the radius of curvature is 40 mm).

Zr1-xTixV0.4Ni1.2Mn0.4-yMoy계 합금전극의 Mo 함량에 따른 물성 및 전극특성 (Electrode properties upon the substitution of Mo for Mn in Zr-basd AB2-type Hydrogen Storage Alloys)

  • $AB_2$ type Zr-based Laves phases alloys have been studied for potential application as a negative electrode in a Ni-MH battery. The $AB_2$-type electrodes have a much higher energy density than $AB_5$-type electrodes per weight, however they have some disadvantages such as poor activation behavior and cycle life etc. Nonetheless, the $AB_2$-type electrodes have been studied very extensively due to their high energy density. In this study, in order to develop the cycle life, the Mn of $AB_2$ alloy composition was substituted partially by Mo. The alloys were melted by arc furnace and remelted 4-5 times for homogeneity. The alloy powder was used below 200-325 mesh for experiments. The structures and phases of the alloys were analyzed by XRD, SEM and EDS, and measured the curve of a pressure-composition isotherms. The electrodes were prepared by cold pressing of the copper-coated(25 wt%) alloy powders, and tested by a half cell. The results are summarized as follows. The cycle life was improved with the increase of Mo amount in $Zr_{1-x}Ti_xV_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}Mo_y$(x=0.3, 0.4) and the activation was faster, whereas the discharge capacity decreased.

다중방전 경로를 이용한 편상접지체의 접지저항 및 전류특성 (Grounding Resistance and Current Characteristics of the Planar Earth Structure using Multiple Discharge Paths)

  • This study proposes a newly modified form of existing ground electrodes in order to secure trust of grounding system for large current caused by a stroke of lightning. Proposed planar earth structure has a several needle electrodes around a circular rod and 4 plane electrodes in all directions. The plane electrodes are fused with the insulator on the linear rod, so that they're electrically isolated. The concept is to increase the discharge amount of earth structure using multiple discharge paths like needle and plane electrodes. To check the discharge efficiency of the suggested scheme, the discharge currents are compared with typically used two kinds of ground rods. To ensure accuracy in the measurement of the discharge current, the same material was used for the comparison model. Also, the ground resistance are simulated by CDEGS commercial software and the results are compared with measured data. Based on this kind of experimental study, the suggested ground rod can be used when designing a ground system or when constructing a ground system at the site.

Resonance Characteristic Improvement of ZnO-Based FBAR Devices Fabricated on Thermally Annealed Bragg Reflectors

  • In this paper, we present the thermal annealing effects of the W/$SiO_2$ multi-layer reflectors in ZnO-based FBAR devices with cobalt (Co) electrodes in comparison with those with aluminum (Al) electrodes. Various thermal annealing conditions have been implemented on the W/$SiO_2$ multi-layer reflectors formed on p-type (100) silicon substrates. The resonance characteristics could be significantly improved due to the thermal annealing and were observed to depend strongly on the annealing conditions applied to the reflectors. Particularly, the FBAR devices with the W/$SiO_2$ multi- layer reflectors annealed at $400^{\circ}C$/30min have shown superior resonance characteristics in terms of return loss and quality-factor (Q-factor). In addition, the use of Co electrodes has resulted in further improvement of the resonance characteristics as compared with the Al electrodes. As a result, the combined use of both the thermal annealing and Co electrodes seems very useful to more effectively improve the resonance characteristics of the FBAR devices with the W/$SiO_2$ multi-layer reflectors.

  • Aluminium and aluminium alloys have the high electrical and heat conductivity. It gives rise to difficulties for a choice of electrodes material for their contact electric welding. This paper describes the investigations performed to solve the above problem. The purpose of this investigation was to obtain dispersion-hardening alloys by the internal oxidation method, to optimize their contents and treatment modes, to produce electrodes of these alloys and to test them. The strengthing effect of alloys with oxide particles depends on their size stability at high temperatures. Despite of the fact, that oxides are the most stable of all the non-metallic phases their coagulation takes place. Based on the early results, we chose two types of alloys, first No. 1 Cu - 0,4%Al and second No. 2 Cu - 0,2%Be for production of electrodes. These alloys had not additional alloying elements. These alloys were prepared as 1 mm plates and flake-formed 200 m thick, and also No. 1 as a powder of size 100 mkm (received from Korea). The large samples for electrodes were produced by three methods : explosive welding method, dynamic one including the explosion compression of electrode blank and the quasi-dynamic method including the high-speed compression of dense briquest and the further hot extrusion of a rod.

백금 나노 도금입자가 산성 환경에서 탄소기판 부식에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Platinum Nano Electrodeposits on the Corrosion of Carbon Substrate in an Acidic Environment)

  • We investigated the effects of Pt nano electrodeposits on the corrosion of carbon substrate in an acidic solution. The electrodes for experiments were prepared by electrodepositing Pt on carbon substrate in a solution of 5 mM $H_2PtCl_6$ and 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ using pulse deposition technique. In cyclic voltammograms for the carbon electrodes with and without Pt nano electrodeposits, total anodic current including both currents from oxygen evolution reaction and carbon corrosion increased abruptly above a critical potential. In addition, the critical potential of the carbon electrodes with Pt nano electrodeposits was lower than that of bare carbon electrode. This phenomenon was more prominent at $75^{\circ}C$ than $25^{\circ}C$. In potentiostatic experiments, the current transients and the corresponding power spectral density increased with increasing the applied potential for the electrodes. Furthermore, the current transients for the carbon electrodes with Pt nano electrodeposits were much higher than those for the bare carbon substrate. This indicates that the corrosion of carbon substrate can be highly accelerated by Pt nano electrodeposits.

Printed flexible OTFT backplane for electrophoretic displays

  • Printing technologies were applied to fabricate a flexible organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) backplane for electrophoretic displays (EPDs). Various printing processes were adopted to maximize the figures of each layer of OTFT: screen printing combined with reverse offset printing for the gate electrodes and scan bus lines with Ag ink, inkjet for the source/drain electrodes with glycerol-doped Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): Poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), inkjet for the semiconductor layer with Triisopropylsilylethynyl (TIPS)-pentacene, and screen printing for the pixel electrodes with Ag paste. A mobility of $0.44cm^2/V$ s was obtained, with an average standard deviation of 20%, from the 36 OTFTs taken from different backplane locations, which indicates high uniformity. An EPD laminated on an OTFT backplane with $190{\times}152$ pixels on an 8-in panel was successfully operated by displaying some patterns.
