Innovative Approach to Sintering Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Powders for Rapid Manufacturing Applications

  • A new approach to sintering loose packed, coarse aluminum alloy powder to full or near full density is presented. A controlled amount of water vapor is introduced into the sintering atmosphere, which disru pts the oxide film and allows metallurgical contact between particles. In addition, supersolidus liquid phase sintering is used to sinter the part to full density. Since the method is particularly applicable to uncompacted powders, it is potentially useful for sintering aluminum powder preforms manufactured by 3DPrinting and powder injection molding.

  • Recently, 3D printing technology has been considered as a core applicable technology because it brings many improvements such as the development of medical technology, medical customization, and reducing production cost and shortening treatment period. This research suggests a market prediction framework for medical 3D printing business. As an immature market situation, it is important to control some uncertainty for market prediction such as a customers' conversion rate. So we adopt decision making tree (DMT) model which used to choose an optimal decision making among diverse pathway. Among medical industries this paper just focuses on dentistry business. For predicting a 5 year period trend expected market size, we identified some replaceable denture procedure by 3D printing, collected related data, controlled uncertain variables. The result shows that medical 3D printing business could be a market of 28.2 billion won at 1st year and in the end of fifth year it could become on a scale of 61.1 billion won market.

  • This study analyzed the fashion design features of Iris van Herpen and createdsixdigital fashion designsusing the SCAMPER technique with 3D clothing design software, incorporating a futuristic theme. The research methodology involvedcase analysis and a literature survey. First, the study summarizedthe design style and characteristics of Iris van Herpen. Second, a design concept wasestablished, and a design mood board wascreated. Third, the resulting design features were combined with the SCAMPER technique to incorporate Iris van Herpen's design elements intonew digital fashion designs. Fourth, after discussion with the professor and expert group, six designs were selected for production. They includededgy suit coats, overcoats, asymmetrical hoodies and asymmetrical skirts, irregularly shaped tops, dresses, leggings, jackets,and fishtail skirts. This study provides a reference for the future development of digital fashion designs and showcases the integration of science and technology in fashion design.

A Longitudinal Study on Customers' Usable Features and Needs of Activity Trackers as IoT based Devices (사물인터넷 기반 활동량측정기의 고객사용특성 및 욕구에 대한 종단연구)

  • Since the information of $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution is introduced in WEF (World Economic Forum) in 2016, IoT, AI, Big Data, 5G, Cloud Computing, 3D/4DPrinting, Robotics, Nano Technology, and Bio Engineering have been rapidly developed as business applications as well as technologies themselves. Among the diverse business applications for IoT, wearable devices are recognized as the leading application devices for final customers. This longitudinal study is compared to the results of the 1st study conducted to identify customer needs of activity trackers, and links the identified users' needs with the well-known marketing frame of marketing mix. For this longitudinal study, a survey was applied to university students in June, 2018, and ANOVA were applied for major variables on usable features. Further, potential customer needs were identified and visualized by Word Cloud Technique. According to the analysis results, different from other high tech IT devices, activity trackers have diverse and unique potential needs. The results of this longitudinal study contribute primarily to understand usable features and their changes according to product maturity. It would provide some valuable implications in dynamic manner to activity tracker designers as well as researchers in this arena.
