Ultra-precision positioning systems basically require high natural frequency and sufficient workspace. To cope with this requirement, flexure hinge mechanisms have been proposed. However, previous designs are hard to satisfy the functional requirements of the system due to difficulty in modeling and optimizing process applying an independent axiomatic design. Therefore, this paper proposes a new design and design-order based on semi-coupled axiomatic design. A planar 3 DOF parallel type micro mechanism is chosen as an exemplary device. Based on preliminary kinematic analysis and dynamic modeling of the system, an optimal design has been carried out. To check the effectiveness of the optimal parameters obtained from theoretical approach, simulation is performed by FEM. The simulation result shows that a natural frequency of 200.53Hz and a workspace of $2000{\mu}m{\times}2000{\mu}m$ can be ensured, which is in very close agreement with the specified goal of design.
This paper proposes an adaptive RRT (Rapidly-exploring Random Tree) for path planning of high DOF multibody robotic system. For an efficient path planning in high-dimensional configuration space, the proposed algorithm adaptively selects the robot bodies depending on the complexity of path planning. Then, the RRT grows only using the DOFs corresponding with the selected bodies. Since the RRT is extended in the configuration space with adaptive dimensionality, the RRT can grow in the lower dimensional configuration space. Thus the adaptive RRT method executes a faster path planning and smaller DOF for a robot. We implement our algorithm for path planning of 19 DOF robot, AMIRO. The results from our simulations show that the adaptive RRT-based path planner is more efficient than the basic RRT-based path planner.
When we control the level of the steam generator in the nuclear power plants, a swell and shrink arises from many disturbances such as feed water rate, feed water temperature, main steam flow rate, and coolant temperature. If we use the conventional type of PI controller in this system, we will not have stability during controlling at lower power, the removal function of disturbances, and a load follow-up control effectively. In this paper, we study the application of a 2-Degree of Freedom(2-DOF) PID controller to the level control of the steam. generator of nuclear power plants through the simulation and the experimental steam generator. We use the parameters $\alpha$, $\beta$, $\gamma$ of the 2-DOF PID controller for the removal of disturbances and the parameters Kp,Ti,Td of the conventional type of PID controller for controlling setpoint. The back-propagation learning algorithm of neural network is used for tuning the 2-DOF PID controller. We can find satisfactory results of the removal of the disturbances and the tracking function in the change of setpoint through the simulation and experimental steam generator.

Energy harvesting in trams may become a prevalent source of passive energy generation due to the high density of vibrational energy, and this may help power structural health monitoring systems for the trams. This paper presents a broadband vibrational energy harvesting device design that utilizes a varied frequency from a tram vehicle using a 2 DOF vibrational system combined with electromagnetic energy conversion. This paper will demonstrate stepwise optimization processes to determine mechanical parameters for frequency tuning to adjust to the trams' operational conditions, and electromagnetic parameters for the whole system design to maximize power output. The initial optimization will determine 5 important design parameters in a 2 DOF vibrational system, namely the masses (m1, m2 (and spring constants (k1, k2, k3). The second step will use these parameters as initial guesses for the second optimization which will maintain the ratios of these parameters and present electrical parameters to maximize the power output from this system. The obtained values indicated a successful demonstration of design optimization as the average power generated increased from 1.475 mW to 17.44 mW (around 12 times).
We develop a new method to globally calibrate the feature points that are derived from the binocular systems at different positions. A three-DOF (degree of freedom) global calibration system is established to move and rotate the 3D calibration board to an arbitrary position. A three-DOF global calibration model is constructed for the binocular systems at different positions. The three-DOF calibration model unifies the 3D coordinates of the feature points from different binocular systems into a unique world coordinate system that is determined by the initial position of the calibration board. Experiments are conducted on the binocular systems at the coaxial and diagonal positions. The experimental root-mean-square errors between the true and reconstructed 3D coordinates of the feature points are 0.573 mm, 0.520 mm and 0.528 mm at the coaxial positions. The experimental root-mean-square errors between the true and reconstructed 3D coordinates of the feature points are 0.495 mm, 0.556 mm and 0.627 mm at the diagonal positions. This method provides a global and accurate calibration to unity the measurement points of different binocular vision systems into the same world coordinate system.
In order to reject the steady-state tracking error, it is common to introduce integral compensators in servosystems for constant reference signals. However, if the mathematical model of the plant is exact and no disturbance input exists, the integral compensation is not necessary. From this point of view, a two-degree-of-freedom(2DOF) servosystem has been proposed, in which the integral compensation is effective only when there is a modeling error or a disturbance input. The present paper considers a synthesis problems of this 32DOF servosystem with direct transfer term in the system representation. And, a method how we may obtain a gain such that desirable transient response is achieved, is proposed in the presence of the modelling error and disturbance input.
This paper presents a method to design a controller for active suspension with 1-DOF decoupled models. Three 1-DOF decoupled models describing vertical, roll and pitch motions are used to design a controller in order to generate a vertical force, roll and pitch moments, respectively. These control inputs are converted into active suspension forces with geometric relationship. To design a controller, a sliding mode control is adopted. Frequency domain analysis and simulation on vehicle simulation software, CarSim$^{(R)}$, show that the proposed method is effective for ride comfort.
A 6 DOF Multi axis simulation table (MAST) is used to perform vibration and fatigue tests for parts or assemblies of automobiles, aircraft, or other systems. It consists of a table and 6 linear actuators. For its attitude control, we have to adjust the lengths of 6 actuators properly. The system is essentially a parallel mechanism. Three actuators are connected to the table directly and other three actuators are connected indirectly. Because of these, the MAST shows also a serial mechanism#s property: the inverse kinematics is more complicated than a pure parallel mechanism and each actuator can operate independently. The authors have performed a kinematics analysis of the 6 DOF MAST. We have presented an analytical and a numerical solution for the inverse and forward kinematics, and we have verified the solutions by a 3D CAD software.
