  • When we build up a 3D model from the given 2D images, linear algorithms are often used to reduce computational cost or for initialization of nonlinear algorithms. However, contemporary linear algorithms have apparently linear structures, but virtually they are implemented using SVD. The SVD is also implemented using numerical analysis algorithms that need initialization. Moreover, solutions using SVD are more difficult to analyze than closed-form solutions. To avoid from such inconvenient numerical analysis algorithms of the contemporary methods and for convenient analysis of solutions, this paper proposes a convenient linear method that produces a closed-form solution.

  • The numerical modeling and comparison with observations are performed to find out the detailed structure of meteorology and the characteristic of related dispersion phenomena of the non-reactive air pollutant at Kyoungin region, South Korea, where several industrial complex including Siwha, Banwol and Namdong is located. MM5 (Fifth Generation NCAR/Penn State Mesoscale Model), 3-D Land/sea breeze model and 3-D diagnostic meteorological model have been utilized for the meteorological simulation for September, 2002 with each different spatial resolution, while 3-D Eulerian air dispersion model for the air quality study. We can see the simulated wind field shows the very local circulation quitely well compared with in-site observations in shoreline area with complex terrains, at which the circulation of Land/sea breeze has developed and merged with the mountain and valley breeze eventually. Also it is shown in the result of the dispersion model that the diurnal variation and absolute value of daily mean $SO_2$ concentrations have good agreement with observations, even though the instant concentration of $SO_2$ simulated overestimates around 1.5 times rather than that of observation due to neglecting the deposition process and roughly estimated emission rate. This results may indicate that it is important for the air quality study at shoreline region with the complex terrain to implement the high resolution meteorological model which is able to handle with the complicate local circulation.

  • We have developed a 2D axi-symmetric numerical model for an inductively coupled plasma system in order to analyze gas mixing effect through a narrow gap shower head. For frictional flow, holes of 0.5 mm diameter and 2 mm length are approximately modeled in 2D. Gas velocity distribution 10 mm below the shower head showed 2 times difference between the center and the edge at 10 mTorr. At 10 mm above the wafer, it was increased to 6 times difference due to the pumping duct effect. The model with a 5 mm height buffer region of a shower head showed reasonable behavior of Ar discharge. The density of Ar metastable showed additional peak inside the buffer region around the edge holes.

  • A numerical analysis has been conducted in order to simulate the characteristics of complex flow through linear cascades of high performance turbine blade with/without tip clearance by using a pressure-correction based, generalized 3D incompressible Wavier-Stokes CFD code. The development and generation of horseshoe vortex, passage vortex, leakage vortex, tip vortex within tip clearance, etc. are clearly identified through the present simulation which uses the RNG k-$\varepsilon$ turbulent model with wall function method and a second-order linear upwind scheme for convective terms. The present simulation results are consistent with the generally known tendency that occurs in the blade passage and tip clearance. A 3D model for secondary and leakage flows through turbine cascades with/without tip clearance is also suggested from the present simulation results, including the effects of tip clearance height.

  • Lattice Boltzmann method is a new numerical method of investigating the fluid flow which have been solved by Navier-Stokes equation recently. It is known that making the single and parallel algorithms of the Lattice Boltzmann equation is easier than those of Navier-Stokes equations. Also, we can simulate the two phase flow using either the 'Interaction Potential model ' introduced by Shan and Chen. In this paper, we first compared the 3D cavity results of Lattice Boltzmann method with other numerical results for validation and showed the 3D phase transition and its simple application by using the ' Interaction Potential model'

  • Since the coupling of cavitation modeling with turbulent flow is the difficulty topic, a numerical simulation for two phase flow remains as one of the challenging issues in the society. This research focuses on the development of numerical code to deal with incompressible two phase flow around conical body combined with cavitation model suggested by Kunz et al. with k-e turbulent model. The simulation results are compared to experimental data to verify the validity of the developed code. The calculation results show very good agreement with experimental observations. Also, the calculation of cavitation in cryogenic fluid is being done by implementing the temperature sensitivity in government equations and it is still in the progress. This code have been being further extended to 3D compressible two phase flow for the study on the fluid dynamics around inducers and impellers in turbo pump system.

  • This study was performed to develop an information processing system for the sound conservation of soil and groundwater resources. The system contains the geographic spatial information system(GSIS), and the numerical model of groundwater flow and contamination. Numerical models (MODFLOW, MOC3D, MT3D, PMPATH, PEST, UCODE) and GSIS(ArcView) were integrated for the construction of an integrated management system of subsurface environment. The developed system was applied to the management of three mineral water companies located in clean mountain area. The impact of pumping over the overall catchment basin was modeled using the developed system for the decision of future management criteria.

  • To optimize the ventilation and smoke control systems in subway equipped with platform screen door, the technology to analyze the unsteady tunnel flow caused by running of train should be developed. The development of model experiment and numerical analysis technique with relation to unsteady flow of subway were presented. The pressure and air velocity changes in 1/20-scaling experiment unit were measured and results were comparied to those of 3-D unsteady numerical analysis applied with sharp interface method. The experimental and numerical results were quantitatively similar and it would be reasonable to apply sharp interface method to analyze the unsteady flow in subway equipped with platform screen door.

  • To address the uncertainty of the flight trajectories caused by the turbulence and gustiness of the wind field over the roof and in the wake of a building, a 3-D probabilistic trajectory model of flat-type wind-borne debris is developed in this study. The core of this methodology is a 6 degree-of-freedom deterministic model, derived from the governing equations of motion of the debris, and a Monte Carlo simulation engine used to account for the uncertainty resulting from vertical and lateral gust wind velocity components. The influence of several parameters, including initial wind speed, time step, gust sampling frequency, number of Monte Carlo simulations, and the extreme gust factor, on the accuracy of the proposed model is examined. For the purpose of validation and calibration, the simulated results from the 3-D probabilistic trajectory model are compared against the available wind tunnel test data. Results show that the maximum relative error between the simulated and wind tunnel test results of the average longitudinal position is about 20%, implying that the probabilistic model provides a reliable and effective means to predict the 3-D flight of the plate-type wind-borne debris.

  • In this paper, three dimensional Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Method(3-D EMCN method) a numerical analysis method which supplements to magnetic equivalent circuit adding numerical technique, is proposed for analysis Optical Pickup Actuator. (3) This method provides better characteristics both in precision of the analysis and in computation time than other analysis method such as three-dimensional Finite Element Method. We choose the simple 2-magnet moving coil type pickup actuator model and verify upper yoke effect using this method.
