In this study, a model-referenced underwater navigation algorithm is proposed for high-precise underwater navigation using monocular vision near underwater structures. The main idea of this navigation algorithm is that a 3D model-based pose estimation is combined with the inertial navigation using an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The spatial information obtained from the navigation algorithm is utilized for enabling the underwater robot to navigate near underwater structures whose geometric models are known a priori. For investigating the performance of the proposed approach the model-referenced navigation algorithm was applied to an underwater robot and a set of experiments was carried out in a water tank.

Establishing a ship's passage plan is an essential step before it starts to sail. The research related to the automatic generation of ship passage plans is attracting attention because of the development of maritime autonomous surface ships. In coastal water navigation, the land, islands, and navigation rules need to be considered. From the path planning algorithm's perspective, a ship's passage planning is a global path-planning problem. Because conventional global path-planning methods such as Dijkstra and A* are time-consuming owing to the processes such as environmental modeling, it is difficult to modify a ship's passage plan during a voyage. Therefore, the D* algorithm was used to address these problems. The starting point was near Busan New Port, and the destination was Ulsan Port. The navigable area was designated based on a combination of the ship trajectory data and grid in the target area. The initial path plan generated using the D* algorithm was analyzed with 33 waypoints and a total distance of 113.946 km. The final path plan was simplified using the Douglas-Peucker algorithm. It was analyzed with a total distance of 110.156 km and 10 waypoints. This is approximately 3.05% less than the total distance of the initial passage plan of the ship. This study demonstrated the feasibility of automatically generating a path plan in coastal navigation for maritime autonomous surface ships using the D* algorithm. Using the shortest distance-based path planning algorithm, the ship's fuel consumption and sailing time can be minimized.
For autonomous navigation, map, pose tracking, and finding the shortest path are required. Because there is no GPS signal in indoor environment, the current position should be recognized in the 3D map by using image processing or something. In this paper, we explain 3D map creation technology by using depth camera like Kinect and pose tracking in 3D map by using 2D image taking from camera. In addition, the mechanism of avoiding obstacles is discussed.
Numerical integration is necessary for satellite orbit determination and its prediction. The numerical integration algorithm can be divided into single-step and multi-step method. There are lots of single-step and multi-step methods. However, the Runge-Kutta method in single-step and the Adams method in multi-step are generally used in global navigation satellite system (GNSS) satellite orbit. In this study, 4th and 8th order Runge-Kutta methods and various order of Adams-Bashforth-Moulton methods were used for GLObal NAvigation Satellite System (GLONASS) orbit integration using its broadcast ephemeris and these methods were compared with international GNSS service (IGS) final products for 7days. As a result, the RMSE of Runge-Kutta methods were 3.13m and 4th and 8th order Runge-Kutta results were very close and also 3rd to 9th order Adams-Bashforth-Moulton results. About result of computation time, this study showed that 4th order Runge-Kutta was the fastest. However, in case of 8th order Runge-Kutta, it was faster than 14th order Adams-Bashforth-Moulton but slower than 13th order Adams-Bashforth-Moulton in this study.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm that jointly estimates the location and velocity of a near-field moving target in a pulse radar system. The proposed algorithm estimates the location and velocity corresponding to the outcome of orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) in a 4-dimensional (4D) location-velocity space. To address the high computational complexity of 4D parameter joint estimation, we propose an algorithm that iteratively estimates the target's 2D location and velocity sequentially. Through simulations, we analyze the estimation performance and verify the computational efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Among the path planning methods used to generate the ship's path, the graph search-based method is widely used because it has the advantage of its completeness, optimality. In order to apply the graph-based search method to the berthing path plan, the deviation from the path must be minimized. Path following suitability should be considered essential, since path deviation during berthing can lead to collisions with berthing facilities. However, existing studies of graph search-based berthing path planning are dangerous for application to real-world navigation environments because they produce results with a course change just before berthing. Therefore, in this paper, we develop a cost function suitable for path following, and propose a 3D A* algorithm that applies it. In addition, in order to evaluate the suitability for the actual operating environment, the results of the path generation of the algorithm are compared with the trajectory of the data collected by manned operations.
This paper describes a robust algorithm for an integrated underwater navigation system based on VKF (velocity Kalman filter). The proposed approach relies on a VKF, augmented by the altitude from an echo-sounder-based switching architecture to yield robust performance, even when DVL (Doppler velocity log) exceeds the measurement range and the measured value cannot be valid. The proposed approach relies on three parts: 1) PINS (pure inertial navigation system), 2) VKF design, and 3) VKF-aided integrated navigation filter design. To evaluate the proposed method, we compare the results of the VKF-aided navigation system with the simulation result from a PINS and conventional INS-DVL method.

NC (Numerical Control) code for the tool path needs to be generated efficiently for machining of free form pockets with arbitrary wall geometry on a three axis CNC machine. The unified rough and finish cut algorithm and the tool motion is graphically simulated in Part 1. In this paper, a grid based 3D navigation algorithm simulated in Part 1 for generating NC tool path data for both linear interpolation and a combination of linear and circular interpolation for three-axis CNC milling of general pockets with sculptured bottom surfaces is experimentally performed and verified.

An autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle is a type of marine self-propelled robot that executes some specific mission and returns to base on completion of the task. In order to successfully execute the requested operations, the vehicle must be guided by an effective navigation algorithm that enables it to avoid obstacles and follow the best path. Architectures and principles for intelligent dynamic systems are being developed, not only in the underwater arena but also in related areas where the work does not fully justify the name. The problem of increasing the capacity of systems management is highly relevant based on the development of new methods for dynamic analysis, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, and adaptation. Among the large variety of navigation methods that presently exist, the dynamic window approach is worth noting. It was originally presented by Fox et al. and has been implemented in indoor office robots. In this paper, the dynamic window approach is applied to the marine world by developing and extending it to manipulate vehicles in 3D marine environments. This algorithm is provided to enable efficient avoidance of obstacles and attainment of targets. Experiments conducted using the algorithm in MATLAB indicate that it is an effective obstacle avoidance approach for marine vehicles.
