  • We demonstrated transmission direct phase-measuring deflectometry (DPMD) with a specular phase object having discontinuous surfaces by using two displays and a two-dimensional array detector for display and by recording the distorted fringe patterns. Three-dimensional (3D) information was obtained by calculating the height map directly from the phase information. We developed a mathematical model of the phase-height relationship in transmission DPMD. Unlike normal transmission deflectometry, this method supports height measurement directly from the phase. Compared with other 3D measurement techniques such as interferometry, this method has the advantages of being inexpensive and easy to implement.

  • This paper presents a 3D touch pad technology that uses force touch sensors as a next-generation method for mobile applications. 3D touch technology requires detecting the location and pressure of touches simultaneously, as well as multi-touch function. We used metal foil strain gauges for the touch recognition sensor and detected the weak touch signals using Wheatstone bridge circuit at each strain gauge sensor. We also developed a touch recognition system that amplifies touch signals, converts them to digital data through a microprocessor, and displays the data on a screen. In software, we designed a touch recognition algorithm with C code, which is capable of recognizing two-point touch and differentiating touch pressures. We carried out a successful experiment to display two touch signals on a screen with different forces and locations.

  • With the increased development of 3D VR applications augmented by recent VR/AR/MR technologies and by the advance of 3D devices, interchangeability and portability of 3D data have become essential. 3D files should be processed in a standard data format for common usage between applications. Providing standardized libraries and data structures along with the standard file format means that a more efficient system organization is possible and unnecessary processing due to the usage of different file formats and data structures depending on the applications can be omitted. In order to provide the function of using a common data file and data structure, this research is intended to provide a programming binding tool for generating and storing standardized data so that various services can be developed by accessing the common 3D files. To achieve this, this paper defines a common data structure including classes and functions to access X3D files with a standardized scheme using the Python programming language. It describes the implementation of a Python language binding viewer, which is an X3D VR viewer for rendering standard X3D data files based on the language binding interface. The VR viewer includes Python based 3D scene libraries and a data structure for creation, modification, exchange, and transfer of X3D objects. In addition, the viewer displays X3D objects and processes events using the libraries and data structure.

  • In this paper, we present a depth extraction method of integral imaging using correlation between elemental images with phase only filter. Integral imaging is a passive three-dimensional (3D) imaging system records ray information of 3D objects through lenslet array by 2D image sensor, and displays 3D images by using the similar lenslet array. 2D images by lenslet array have different perspectives. These images are referred to as elemental images. Since the correlation can be calculated between elemental images, the depth information of 3D objects can be extracted. To obtain high correaltion between elemental images effectively, in this paper, we use phase only filter. Using this high correlation, the corresponding pixels between elemental images can be found so that depth information can be extracted by computational reconstruction technique. In this paper, to prove our method, we carry out optical experiment and calculate Peak Sidelobe Ratio (PSR) as a correlation metric.

  • Mobile games will be one of independent industries on game areas and take the fourth standing in the important platform since PC Games, TV Games, and Palm Games. There are several reasons why mobile games will differ in their platform, behaviors, and habits. According to the data of market consultation about the figure of mobile-game players throughout the world, the Mobile game will increase steadily from 780 million in 2007 to 1860 million in 2010. Also, market income will mount up from $42,100 million to $87,000 million. 3D games have been playing important roles in our lives. Satisfying users' needs in high-quality games, they have been growing and attracting more people with their powerful visual effects and the three-dimensional design player. We cannot emphasize their tremendous visual impacts and animation effects too much. This paper displays how to design 3D application based on J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition) and shows free movement of 3D objects receiving and responding to the keyboard of mobile devices withWTK (Wireless ToolKit) simulator on the 3D screen.

  • Most 3D displays that are currently in the market adopt the binocular disparity method creating a different image for the left and right eye for a 3 dimensional effect. However, commercialized 3D image output devices lack in performance making it uncomfortable for the viewer and restrict the viewer to certain positions. In this paper, we propose a single-cell polarized lens type stereoscopic system which has a smaller viewing angle and reduced crosstalk, with improved light penetration compared to existing double-cell structures; and analyzed the single-cell polarized lens type stereoscopic system properties, and conducted an effect analysis of performance improvement compared to the dual-cell type. Results showed that the single-cell type had a 25% improved performance, and the 3D crosstalk index which is an important index for quality characteristics of stereoscopic systems, increased over about 37%, compared to the dual-cell type.

  • Candidiasis has posed a serious health risk to immunocompromised patients owing to the increase in resistant yeasts, and Candida albicans is the prominent pathogen of fungal infections. Therefore, there is a critical need for the discovery and characterization of novel antifungals to treat infections caused by C. albicans. In the present study, we report on the antifungal activity of the ethanol extract from Salvia miltiorrhiza against C. albicans and the possible mode of action against C. albicans. The increase in the membrane permeability was evidenced by changes in diphenylhexatriene binding and release of both 260-nm-absorbing intracellular materials and protein. In addition, inhibition of cell wall synthesis was demonstrated by the enhanced minimal inhibitory concentration in the presence of sorbitol and reduced (1,3)-β-D-glucan synthase activity. The above evidence supports the notion that S. miltiorrhiza has antifungal activity against C. albicans by the synergistic activity of targeting the cell membrane and cell wall. These findings indicate that S. miltiorrhiza displays effective activity against C. albicans in vitro and merits further investigation to treat C. albicans-associated infections.

  • The purpose of this study is to create a shirt sloper suitable for an elderly male body shape by producing virtual models using a 3D-virtualization program, making a torso prototype using the Yuka CAD system, and employing 3D simulation to virtualize and calibrate the model. First, the following three types of obese dummies are implemented through the CLO 3D program: Type 1 exhibits body fat in the lower body; Type 2 exhibits an obese abdomen; and Type 3 displays a balanced form of obesity. Second, for the design of the shirt pattern, the waist back length (measured value+1), back armhole depth (C/10+12+3+0.5~1.5), front armhole depth (back armhole depth 0~1), front interscye (2C/10-1+0.5-0.5), armscye depth (C/10+2+3.5+ 0.5), back interscye (2C/10-1+1), front chest C (C/4+2.5+1), back chest C (C/4+2.5-1), front hem C (C/4+2.5+1(+2)), back hem C (C/4+2.5-1(+2)), cap height (AH/3-5), and biceps width (Front AH-1, Back AH-1) are calculated. Third, the virtual attachment of the shirt pattern is resolved by increasing the front and back armhole depths, and the front and rear wrinkles are improved by adding a back armhole dart. The front hem lift and lateral pull caused by the protrusion of the abdomen are amended by increasing the margin of the chest, waist C, and hip C, with the appearance improved by balanced margin distribution in the front, back, and side panels. The improved retail pattern with an increase in the front armholes C was balanced on the torso plate.

  • In this paper, we present a new method to reduce crosstalk of a glasses-free three-dimensional (3D) display using a multi-view image processing technique. Since crosstalk makes the current view image mixed with its neighboring ones, the output 3D image becomes severely blurred. We apply adaptive depth retargeting and view gradient-based crosstalk inverse filtering onto a multi-view image to minimize crosstalk of the glasses-free 3D display. In addition, overflow and underflow pixels are compensated by epipolar image pixel interpolation so that visual artifacts are minimized. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces crosstalk more efficiently than the previous work while improving 3D image quality.
