Nonlinearity effect on the dynamic behavior of the clayey basin edge

  • Investigations has shown that the correct estimation of the effective amplification period is as important as the amplification value itself. It gets more important in 2D basins. This study presents a quantitative coefficient for consideration of the nonlinearity effect in terms of amplification value and the shift in its period which is missing or ineffectively considered in the previous studies. To attain this goal, by the application of a time domain fully nonlinear method, the deviation of the more common equivalent linear results from the basin nonlinear behavior under strong ground motions is investigated quantitatively. Also, despite the increase in the damping ratio, the possibility of the increase in the amplification due to the increase in motion strength is shown. To make the results useful in engineering practice, by introducing nonlinearity ratio, the effect of the nonlinearity is quantitatively estimated for two soft and stiff clayey basins with three different depths under a set of motions scaled to two target spectrum. Results show that at the 100 m depth soft clayey basin, while the nonlinearity ratio shows a 35% deviation at the basin edge part under DD1 motion level, its effect moves to the central part with 20% effect under DD3 motion level. By the increase in depth to 150 m, the results show a decrease in the overall effect of the nonlinear behavior for both clay types. At this depth, the nonlinearity ratio gives a 30% and 17% difference on a limited distance from outcrop at the soft clayey basin under DD1 and DD3 motion levels, respectively. At the 30 m depth basins, the nonlinearity ratio shows up to 25% difference for different cases. The presented ratio would be introduced as nonlinearity coefficients for consideration of the nonlinearity effects in the codes. The presented quantitative margins will help the designer to have a better understanding of the amplification period change because of nonlinearity over 2D basin surface.

Cause of Groundwater Yield Reduction in a Collector Well Considering Sediment's Composition and Hydrogeochemical Characteristics (지층 및 이화학 특성을 고려한 방사형 집수정의 취수량 감소 원인 분석)

  • The cause of yield reduction in a collector well, which is located in Anseong-cheon watershed in Kyunggi province, is studied by using aquifer sediments' composition and hydraulic conductivity near four horizontal wells, no. 1, no. 4, no. 6, and no. 7 wells. During test-pumping periods, groundwater yield is reduced with a trend of $12.4m^3/d/d$ at no. 1, $2.3m^3/d/d$ at no. 4, $24.4m^3/d/d$ at no. 6, and $187.3m^3/d/d$ at no. 7 and no. 7 well shows the biggest reduction. The sediments along no. 7 horizontal well have low hydraulic conductivity and high coefficient of uniformity ($C_u$), and a deviation of $C_u$ along the well is also large. This characteristics can bring the fine particles' movement and make the openings filled. Additionally, high iron ($Fe^{2+}$) content results in a precipitation of iron hydroxides during pumping or injection and they can produce a clogging in sediments. In the future study, the analysis of physical and hydrochemical changes through a long-term pumping procedure will give a more exact interpretation for the cause of yield reduction.

Efficient 3D Model Retrieval using Discriminant Analysis (판별분석을 이용한 효율적인 3차원 모델 검색)

  • This study established the efficient system that retrieves the 3D model by using a statistical technique called the function of discriminant analysis. This method was suggested to search index, which was formed by the statistics of 128 feature vectors including those scope, minimum value, average, standard deviation, skewness and scale. All of these were sampled with Osada's D2 method and the statistics as a factor effecting a change turned the value of discriminant analytic function into that of index. Through the primary retrieval on the model of query, the class above the top 2% was drawn out by comparing the query with the index of previously saved class from the group of same models. This method was proved an efficient retrieval technique that saved its procedural time. It shortened the retrieval time for 3D model by 57% faster than the existing Osada's method, and the precision that similar models were found in the first place was recorded 0.362, which revealed it more efficient by 44.8%.

Accuracy Evaluation by Point Cloud Data Registration Method (점군데이터 정합 방법에 따른 정확도 평가)

  • 3D laser scanners are an effective way to quickly acquire a large amount of data about an object. Recently, it is used in various fields such as surveying, displacement measurement, 3D data generation of objects, construction of indoor spatial information, and BIM(Building Information Model). In order to utilize the point cloud data acquired through the 3D laser scanner, it is necessary to make the data acquired from many stations through a matching process into one data with a unified coordinate system. However, analytical researches on the accuracy of point cloud data according to the registration method are insufficient. In this study, we tried to analyze the accuracy of registration method of point cloud data acquired through 3D laser scanner. The point cloud data of the study area was acquired by 3D laser scanner, the point cloud data was registered by the ICP(Iterative Closest Point) method and the shape registration method through the data processing, and the accuracy was analyzed by comparing with the total station survey results. As a result of the accuracy evaluation, the ICP and the shape registration method showed 0.002m~0.005m and 0.002m~0.009m difference with the total station performance, respectively, and each registration method showed a deviation of less than 0.01m. Each registration method showed less than 0.01m of variation in the experimental results, which satisfies the 1: 1,000 digital accuracy and it is suggested that the registration of point cloud data using ICP and shape matching can be utilized for constructing spatial information. In the future, matching of point cloud data by shape registration method will contribute to productivity improvement by reducing target installation in the process of building spatial information using 3D laser scanner.

  • 1. Objectives The Face is an important standard for the classification of Sasang Constitutions. We are developing 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) to analyse the facial characteristics. This apparatus show us 3D image and data of man's face and measure facial figure data. So We should examine the Measurement of Facial Figure data error of 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) in Software Error Analysis. 2. Methods We scanned face status by using 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA). And we measured lengths Between Facial Definition Parameters of facial figure data by Facial Measurement program. 2.1 Repeatability test We measured lengths Between Facial Definition Parameters of facial figure data restored by 3D-AFRA by Facial Measurement program 10 times. Then we compared 10 results each other for repeatability test. 2.2 Measurement error test We measured lengths Between Facial Definition Parameters of facial figure data by two different measurement program that are Facial Measurement program and Rapidform2006. At measuring lengths Between Facial Definition Parameters, we uses two measurement way. The one is straight line measurement, the other is curved line measurement. Then we compared results measured by Facial Measurement program with results measured by Rapidform2006. 3. Results and Conclusions In repeatability test, standard deviation of results is 0.084-0.450mm. And in straight line measurement error test, the average error 0.0582mm, and the maximum error was 0.28mm. In curved line measurement error test, the average error 0.413mm, and the maximum error was 1.53mm. In conclusion, we assessed that the accuracy and repeatability of Facial Measurement program is considerably good. From now on we complement accuracy of 3D-AFRA in Hardware and Software.

L-band Voltage Controlled Oscillator for Ultra-Wideband System Applications (초광대역 응용 시스템을 위한 L밴드 전압제어발진기 설계)

  • In this paper an octave tuning voltage controlled oscillator which is used in set-top TV tuner was designed. Oscillation frequency range is 0.9 GHz~2.2 GHz with 1.3 GHz bandwidth. By using 4 varactor diodes in base and emitter of transistor, wide-band tuning, sweep linearity and low phase noise could be achieved. Designed VCO requires a tuning voltage of 0 V ~ 20 V and DC consumption of 10 V and 15 mA. Designed VCO exhibits an output power of 5.3 dBm $\pm$1.1 dB and a phase noise below -94.8 dBc/Hz @ 10 kHz over the entire frequency range. The sweep linearity shows 65 MHz/V with a deviation of $\pm$10 MHz.

Study on the Marker Steroids of New Zealand Deer (Cervus elaphus var. scoticus) Velvet Antler by UPLC-MS/MS and HPLC-PDA Methods - (II)

  • Eleven steroid hormones (SHs: androstene-3,17-dione, estrone, ${\beta}$-estradiol, ${\alpha}$-estradiol, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone, $17{\acute{a}}$-hydroxyprogesterone, medroxyprogesterone, megestrol acetate, progesterone, and androsterone) were detected from New Zealand deer (Cervus elaphus var. scoticus) velvet antler (NZA, 鹿茸 ). A method for the quantification of eleven SHs was established by using ultraperformance liquid chromatography (UPLC)-MS/MS. The linearities ($R^2$ > 0.991), limits of quantification (LOQ values, 0.3 ng/mL to 23.1 ng/mL), intraday and interday precisions (relative standard deviation: RSD < 2.43%), and recovery rates (97.3% to 104.6%) for all eleven SHs were determined. In addition, a method for the quantification of three 7-oxycholesterols (7-O-CSs: 7-ketocholesterol, $7{\alpha}$-hydroxycholesterol, and $7{\beta}$-hydroxycholesterol) in the NZA was established by using an HPLC-photodiode array (PDA) method. The linearities ($R^2$ > 0.999), LOQ values (30 ng/mL to 350 ng/mL), intraday and interday precisions (RSD < 1.93%), and recovery rates (97.2% to 103.5%) for the three 7-O-CSs were determined. These quantitative methods are accurate, precise, and reproducible. As a result, it is suggested that the five steroid compounds of androstene-3,17-dione, androsterone, 7-ketocholesterol, $7{\alpha}$-hydroxycholesterol, and $7{\beta}$-hydroxycholesterol could be marker steroids of NZA. These methods can be applied to quantify or standardize the marker steroids present in NZA.

  • Low frequency noise emitted by wind turbines is one of the most noise complaints. In this study, the reliability of the models was examined by comparing the measured sound pressure levels with the predicted levels based on Denish model and commercial programs of the SounPLAN and the ENPro based on ISO 9613. As a result of applying it to representative 3 MW wind turbines, on lnad, the measured and the predicted values differed within a maximum of 5 dB in the frequency range of 12.5 Hz to 80 Hz. It may be due to the change in the acoustic power levels because the wind turbines have been in operation for more than 7 years. However, considering that the Boundary Element Method (BEM) predicted value, which is known to be the most accurate in the low frequency band, the predicted values are well matched within 2.5 dB, the models of this study are expected to be used as deviation within 3 dB.

  • The reaction of N,N-diethyl carbamates of 1H-[1,2,3]triazolo[4,5-b]pyridin-1-ol (4-HOAt) 7, 3H-[1,2,3]triazolo[4,5-b]pyridin-3-ol (7-HOAt) 8, 1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-1-ol (HOBt) 9, 6-chloro-1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-1-ol (Cl-HOBt) 10, 6-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-1-ol ($CF_3$-HOBt) 11, and 6-nitro-1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-1-ol ($NO_2$-HOBt) 12 with morpholine and piperidine in $CH_3CN$ underwent acyl nucleophilic substitution to give the corresponding carboxamide derivatives. The reactants and products were identified by elemental analysis, IR and NMR. We measured the kinetics of these reactions spectrophotometrically in $CH_3CN$ at a range of temperatures. The rates of morpholinolysis and piperidinolysis were found to fit the Hammett equation and correlated with $\sigma$-Hammett values. The values were 1.44 - 1.21 for morpholinolysis and 1.95 - 1.72 for piperidinolysis depending on the temperature. The $Br{\phi}$nsted-type plot was linear with a $\beta_lg = -0.49 \pm 0.02$ and $-0.67 \pm 0.03$. The kinetic data and structure-reactivity relationships indicate that the reaction of 9-12 with amines proceeds by a concerted mechanism. The deviation from linearity of the correlation ${\Delta}H^#$ vs. ${\Delta}S^#$ and plot of $logk_{pip}$ vs. $logk_{morph}$ and $Br{\phi}$nsted-type correlation indicate that the reactions of amines with carbamates 7 and 8 is attributed to the electronic nature of their leaving groups.

Biometric analysis hand parameters in young adults for prosthetic hand and ergonomic product applications

  • This study aimed to evaluate the superficial anatomy, kinesiology, and functions of the hand to reveal its morphometry and apply the findings in various fields such as prosthetic hand and protective hand support product design. We examined 51 young adults (32 females, 19 males) aged between 18-30. Hand photographs were taken, and measurements were conducted using ImageJ software. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between personal information and the parameters. The results of the measurements showed the average lengths of finger segments: thumb (49.5±5.5 mm), index finger (63.9±4.1 mm), middle finger (70.7±5.2 mm), ring finger (65.5±4.8 mm), and little finger (53.3±4.3 mm). Both females and males, the left index finger was measured longer than the right index finger. The right ring finger was found to be longer than the left in both sexes. Additionally, length differences between fingers in extended and maximally adducted positions were determined: thumb-index finger (56.1±6.2 mm), index-middle finger (10.7±4.1 mm), middle-ring finger (10.8±1.4 mm), and ring-little finger (25.6±2.7 mm). Other findings included the average radial natural angle (56.4°±10.5°), ulnar natural angle (23.4°±7.1°), radial deviation angle (65.2°±8.2°), ulnar deviation angle (51.2°±9.6°), and grasping/gripping angle (49.1°±5.8°). The average angles between fingers in maximum abduction positions were also measured: thumb-index finger (53.4°±6.5°), index-middle finger (17.2°±2.6°), middle-ring finger (14.3°±2.3°), and ring-little finger (32.1°±7.0°). The study examined the variability in the positioning of proximal interphalangeal joints during maximum metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal flexion, coinciding with maximum distal interphalangeal extension movements. The focal points of our observations were the asymmetrical and symmetrical arches formed by these joints. This study provides valuable hand parameters in young adults, which can be utilized in various applications such as prosthetic design, ergonomic product development, and hand-related research. The results highlight the significance of considering individual factors when assessing hand morphology and function.
