  • A computerized design system of axial fan is developed for constructing 3-D blade geometry and predicting both aerodynamic performance and noise. The aerodynamic blading design of fan is conducted by blade angle distribution, camber line determination, airfoil thickness distribution and blade element stacking along spanwise distance. The internal flow and the aerodynamic performance of designed fan are predicted by the through-flow modeling technique with flow deviation and pressure loss correlations. Based on the predicted internal flow field and performance data, fan noise is predicted by two models for discrete frequency and broadband noise sources. The present predictions of the flow distribution, the performance and the noise level of actual fans are well agreed with measurement results.

  • In order to increase the productivity of conventional microstereolithography, a new method using a digital micromirror device ($DMD^{TM}$) as the dynamic patter generator is proposed. The deviation from the level of clear optical images to the level of photopolymer surface is a key for the fabrication of an accurate 3D structure, so this deviation is minimized by controlling the viscosity of FA 1260T with organic solvents. After finding the appropriate process variables, the feasibility of microstructure fabrication such as a microgear and a microsphere is demonstrated. Microstereolithography with $DMD^{TM}$ showed the potential to replace the existing focused beam microstereolithography.

  • The paper derives formulas for the mean-squared error distortion and resulting signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio of a fixed-rate scalar quantizer designed optimally in the minimum mean-squared error sense for a Gaussian density with the standard deviation ${\sigma}_q$ when it is mismatched to a Laplacian density with the standard deviation ${\sigma}_q$. The SNR formulas, based on the key parameter and Bennett's integral, are found accurate for a wide range of $p\({\equiv}\frac{\sigma_p}{\sigma_q}\){\geqq}0.25$. Also an upper bound to the SNR is derived, which becomes tighter with increasing rate R and indicates that the SNR behaves asymptotically as $\frac{20\sqrt{3{\ln}2}}{{\rho}{\ln}10}\;{\sqrt{R}}$ dB.

  • Uniformity of the wafer temperature is one of the important factors in etching process. Plasma, chucking force, backside helium pressure and the surface temperature of ESC(electrostatic chuck) affect the wafer temperature. ESC consists of several layers of structure. Each layer has own thermal resistance and the Si-adhesive layer has highest thermal resistance among them. In this work, the temperature distribution of ESC was analyzed by 3-D FEM with various defects and the thickness deviation of the Si-adhesive layer. The result with Si-adhesive layer with the low center thickness deviation shows modified temperature distribution of ESC surface.

  • In bicycle design, saddle is the major part which effects the subjective comfort of rider. This study examines the correlation between the subjective comfort and elastic body pressure. The elastic body pressure measuring instrument for free-form surface such as saddle is developed by force sensor register, A/D converter and computer. The subjective comfort is measured quantit- atively by 11-point scale method and the elastic body pressure distribution is obtained through 3 different saddles at 4 postures. The pressure distribution is presented by computerized equi- pressure contour. While mean pressure, standard deviation of pressure, maximum pressure are inversely proportional to subjective comfort, the modified saddle-bearing weight which is the surface integral of pressure is directly proportional. Consequently, standard deviation of pressure is most important characteristic which affects variation of subjective comfort.

  • In this study, we analyzed the structural safety and vibration characteristics of rotational drive in 3D CT scan equipment using finite element analysis. The analysis results showed a safety factor of 9.2 and a left and right vertical deflectional deviation of 0.24mm from the maximum equivalent stress. After applying weight compensation of 27.7kgf, the structural analysis reduced the safety factor to 7.6, but the deflectional deviation of the left and right structure was reduced to 0mm. Also, we presented the optimum design of rotational drive through the vibration analysis.

  • This paper describes a new bike system for the postural balance rehabilitation training. Virtual environment and three dimensional graphic model is designed with CAD tools such as 3D Studio Max and World Up. For the real time bike simulation, the optimized WorldToolKit graphic library is embedded with the dynamic geometry generation method, multi-thread method, and portal generation method. In this experiment, 20 normal adults were tested to investigate the influencing factors of balancing posture. We evaluated the system by measuring the parameters such as path deviation, driving velocity, COP(center for pressure), and average weight shift. Also, we investigated the usefulness of visual feedback information by weight shift. The results showed that continuous visual feedback by weight shift was more effective than no visual feedback in the postural balance control It is concluded this system might be applied to clinical use as a new postural balance training system.

  • Community noise, especially a rail traffic noise has been serious social issues in Korea. Our society needs practical tools to reduce noise levels for public who live near the railway lines. This paper proposes a noise reducer for railway traffic noise. At the beginning, various types of reducers are discussed, with the advantages and disadvantages with respect to acoustical phenomena. Then, the acoustic effects are discussed based on an insertion loss measurement. After several types of reduces are installed at fields, the noise level is monitored with and without the reducer. The result shows that the proper selection of reducers affects the noise level by 6 dB. The statistics of the mean and a standard deviation turns out to be 3.2 dB and 0.8 dB, respectively. Noise reducers are strongly recommended for the place where apartments are densely constructed alone the railway. Installation of noise reducers seems to be an effective and practical solution for the community traffic noise reduction.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability of the Vectra M3 (3D Imaging System; Canfield Scientific, Parsippany, NJ, USA) in detecting chin asymmetry, and to assess whether the automatic markerless tracking function is reliable compared to manually plotting landmarks. Materials and Methods: Twenty subjects (18 females and 2 males) with a mean age of 42.5±10.5 years were included. Three-dimensional image acquisition was carried out on all subjects with simulated chin deviation in 4 stages (1-4 mm). The images were analyzed by 2 independent observers through manually plotting landmarks and by Vectra software auto-tracking mode. Repeated-measures analysis of variance and the Tukey post-hoc test were performed to evaluate the differences in mean measurements between the 2 operators and the software for measuring chin deviation in 4 stages. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was calculated to estimate the intra- and inter-examiner reliability. Results: No significant difference was found between the accuracy of manually plotting landmarks between observers 1 and 2 and the auto-tracking mode (P=0.783 and P=0.999, respectively). The mean difference in detecting the degree of deviation according to the stage was <0.5 mm for all landmarks. Conclusion: The auto-tracking mode could be considered as reliable as manually plotted landmarks in detecting small chin deviations with the Vectra® M3. The effect on the soft tissue when constructing a known dental movement yielded a small overestimation of the soft tissue movement compared to the dental movement (mean value<0.5 mm), which can be considered clinically non-significant.
