  • A consistent general order nodal method for solving the 3-D neutron diffusion equation in (x-y-z) geometry has ben derived by using a weighted integral technique and expanding the spatial variables by the Legendre orthogonal series function. The equation set derived can be converted into any order nodal schemes. It forms a compact system for general order of nodal moments. The method utilizes the analytic solutions of the transverse-integrated quasi -one dimensional equations and a consistent expansion for the spatial variables so that it renders the use of an approximation for the transverse leakages no necessary. Thus, we can expect extremely accurate solutions and the solution would converge exactly when the mesh width is decreased or the approximation order is increased since the equation set is consistent mathematically.

  • We measured the electron transport coefficients, the electron drift velocity, W, and the longitudinal diffusion coefficient, $D_{L}$, over the E/N range from 0.03 to 100 Td and gas pressure range from 0.133 to 122 kPa in the 0.526% and 5.05% $C_{3}F_{8}$-Ar mixtures by the double shutter drift tube with variable drift distance. And we calculated these electron transport coefficients by using multi-term approximation of Boltzmann equation analysis. We determined the electron collision cross sections set for $C_{3}F_{8}$ molecule by the comparison of measurement and calculation. Our special attention in the present study was focused upon the inelastic collision cross sections of the $C_{3}F_{8}$ molecule.

  • An efficient modeling and management of a large amount of surface data for a wide rage of geographic information play an important role in determining the functionality of 3D geographic information system. It has been put many efforts to design and manage an effective way to enhence the manipulation of the data by considering geometry type and data structures. Recently, DEM(Data Elevation Model) and TIN(Triangulated Irregular Network) are used for representing surface data. In this paper, we propose a 3D data processing method. The method utilizes the major properties of DEM and TIN, respectively. Furthermore, by approximating DEM with a TIN of an appropriate resolution, we can support a fast and realistic surface modeling. We implement the structure with the following 4 level stages. The first is an optimal resolution of DEM which represent all of wide range of geographic data. The second is the full resolution DEM which is a subarea of original data generated by user's selection in our implemeatation. The third is the TIN approximation of this data with a proper resolution determined by the relative position with the camera. And the last step is multi-resolution TIN data whose resolution is dynamically decided by considering which direction user take notice currently. Specially, the TIN of the last step is designed for realtime camera navigation. By using the structure we implemented realtime surface clipping, efficient approximation of height field and the locally detailed surface LOD(Level of Detail). We used the initial 10-meter sampling DEM data of Seoul, KOREA and implement the structure to the 3D Virtual GIS based on the Internet.

  • For given 3D geographic data which is usually of DEM(Data Elevation Model) format, we have to represent and manipulate the data in various ways. For example, we have to draw a part of them in drawing canvas. To do this we give users a way of selecting area they want to visualize. And we have to give a base tool for users to select the local area which can be chosen for some geographic operation. In this paper, we propose a 3D data processing method for representation and manipulation. The method utilizes the major properties of DEM and TIN(Triangular Irregular Network), respectively. Furthermore, by approximating DEM with a TIN of an appropriate resolution, we can support a fast and realistic surface modeling. We implement the structure with the following 4 level stages. • In this study we consider a flow line CONWIP system in which two types of product are produced. The processing times of each product type at each station follow an independent exponential distribution and the demands for the finished products of each type arrive according to a Poisson process. The demands that are not satisfied instantaneously are either backordered or lost according to the number of unsatisfied demands that exist at their arrival instants. For this system we develop an approximation method to obtain the performance measures such as steady state probabilities of the number of parts of each product type at each station, mean waiting times of backordered demands and the proportion of backordered demands. For the analysis of the proposed CONWIP system, we model the CONWIP system as a two class closed queueing network with a synchronization station and analyze the closed queueing network using a product-form approximation method for multiple classes developed by Baynat and Dallery. In the approximation method, each subsystem is analyzed using a matrix geometric method. Comparisons with simulation show that the approximation method provides fairly good results for all performance measures.

  • This paper presents a design of special hardware developed for enhancing the floating-point power operations which are actively used at the lighting stage to calculate the specular term in 3D graphics geometry engines. The power operation takes just 4 cycles in our floating-point multiplier while it takes about 100-200 cycles in conventional floating-point units. Although an approximation algorithm is employed in the power operation to reduce the hardware complexity required, the error of power value from the developed floatingpoint multiplier is so minimal that no difference can be found by human eyes.

  • A rigorous modeling of ultra-low energy implantation is becoming increasingly more important as devices shrink to deep submicron dimensions. In this paper, we have developed an efficient three-dimensional Monte Carlo ion implantation model based on a modified Binary Collision Approximation(BCA). To this purpose, the modified electronic stopping model and the multi-body collision model have been taken into account in this simulator. The dopant and damage profiles show very good agreement with SIMS(Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy) data and RBS(Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy) data, respectively. Moreover, the ion distribution replica method has been implemented into the model to get a computational efficiency in a 3D simulation, and we have calculated the 3D Monte Carlo simulation into the topographically complex structure.

  • A heuristic physical theory of diffraction (PTD) for an acoustic impedance wedge is proposed. This method is based on Ufimtsev's three-dimensional PTD, which is derived for an acoustic soft or hard wedge. We modify the original PTD according to the process of physical optics (or the Kirchhoff approximation) to obtain a 3D heuristic diffraction model for an impedance wedge. In principle, our result is equivalent to Luebbers' model presented in electromagnetism. Moreover, our approach provides a useful insight into the theoretical basis of the existing heuristic diffraction methods. The derived heuristic PTD is applied to an arbitrary impedance polygon, and a simple PTD formula is derived as a supplement to the physical optics formula.

  • The Accuracy of a free-form artifact is affected by machine tool errors, machining process errors, environmental causes and other uncertainty. This paper deals with methodological approach about machine tool errors that are defined the relationship between CMM and OMM inspections of the free-form artifact. In order to analyze the measurement data, Reverse engineering was used. In other words, Surface of Free-Form Artifact is generated by NURBS surface approximation method. Finally, Volumetric error map is made to compare surface of CMM data with that of OMM data.

  • Most of CAE analyses for injection molding have been based on the Mele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. in some cases, that approximation causes significant errors due to loss of the geometrical information as well as simplification of the flow characteristics in the thickness direction. Although injection molding analysis software using three-dimensional solid elements has been developed recently, such as Moldflow Flow3D, it does not contain a deformation analysis function yet. The present work covers three-dimensional deformation analysis or injection molded plastic parts using solid elements. A numerical scheme for deformation analysis has bun proposed from the results of injection molding analysis using Moldflow Flow3D. The accuracy of the proposed approach has been verified through a numerical analysis of rectangular plates with various thicknesses in comparison with the classical shell-based approach. In addition, the reliability of the approach has also been proved through an industrial example. an optical plastic lens, in comparison of real experiments.
