Immunoglobulins (IG) , T cell receptors (TR) and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) are major components of the immune system. Their experimentally determined three-dimensional (3D) structures are numerous and their retrieval and comparison is problematic. IMGT, the international ImMunoGeneTics information system$^{\circledR}$(http://imgt.cines.fr), has devised controlled vocabulary and annotation rules for the sequences and 3D structures of the IG TR and MHC. Annotated data from IMGT/3D sructure-DB, the IMGT 3D structure database, are used in this paper to compare 3D structure of the domains and receptor, and to characterize IG/antigen, peptide/MHC and TR/peptide/MHC interfaces. The analysis includes angle measures to assess receptor flexibility, structural superimposition and contact analysis. Up-to-date data and analysis results are available at the IMGT Web site, http://imgt.cines.fr.

In this study for the development of a 3D pattern mill, we designed its layout which has high stiffness and low-weight structure. We calculated the load of each axis component when 3D pattern mill is under the worst cutting conditions. On base of the calculations, we determined the size of its structure and selected main components of the machine. Also, using FEM we analyzed the layout design of 3D pattern mill to reduce the wcight of structure and increase stiffness of it. According to the load position and direction, shapes and values of the deformation and the stress distributions are calculated, also we calculated the natural frequencies and mode shapes in order ta modify and redesign the weak parts
In most framed structures the nonlinearities and the damages are localized, extending over a limited length of the structural member. In order to capture the details of the local damage, the segments of a member that have entered the nonlinear range may need to be analyzed using the three-dimensional element (3D) model whereas the rest of the member can be analyzed using the simpler one-dimensional (1D) element model with fewer degrees of freedom. An Element-Coupling model was proposed to couple the small scale solid 3D elements with the large scale 1D beam elements. The mixed dimensional coupling is performed imposing the kinematic coupling hypothesis of the 1D model on the interfaces of the 3D model. The analysis results are compared with test results of a reinforced concrete pipe column and a structure consisting of reinforced concrete columns and a steel space truss subjected to static and dynamic loading. This structure is a reduced scale model of a direct air-cooled condenser support platform built in a thermal power plant. The reduction scale for the column as well as for the structure was 1:8. The same structures are also analyzed using 3D solid elements for the entire structure to demonstrate the validity of the Element-Coupling model. A comparison of the accuracy and the computational effort indicates that by the proposed Element-Coupling method the accuracy is almost the same but the computational effort is significantly reduced.
In order to investigate the application of 3D base-seismic isolation system in nuclear power plants (NPPs), comprehensive analysis of constitution and design theory for 3-dimensional combined isolation bearing (3D-CIB) was presented and derived. Four different vertical stiffness of 3D-CIB was designed to isolate the nuclear island (NI) building. This paper aimed at investigating the isolation effectiveness of 3D-CIB through modal analysis and dynamic time-history analysis. Numerical results in terms of dynamic response of 3D-CIB, relative displacement response, acceleration and floor response spectra (FRS) of the superstructure were compared to validate the reliability of 3D-CIB in mitigating seismic response. The results showed that 3D-CIB can significantly attenuate the horizontal acceleration response, and a fair amount of the vertical acceleration response reduction of the upper structure was still observed. 3D-CIB plays a significant role in reducing the horizontal and vertical FRS, the vertical FRS basically do not vary with the floor height. The smaller the vertical stiffness of 3D-CIB is, the better the vertical isolation effectiveness is, whereas, it will increase the displacement and the rocking effect of superstructure. Although the advantage of 3D-CIB is that the vertical stiffness can be flexibly adjusted, it should be designed by properly accounting for the balance between the isolation effectiveness and displacement control including rocking effect. The results of this study can provide the technical basis and guidance for the application of 3D-CIB to engineering structure.

In this paper we deal with the problem of recovering 3-D motion and structure from a time-varying 2-D velocity vector field. A great deal has been done on this topic, most of which has concentrated on finding necessary and sufficient conditions for there to be a unique 3-D solution corresponding to a given 2-D motion. While previous work provides useful theoretical insight, in most situations the known algorithms have turned out to be too sensitive to be of much practical use. It appears that any robust algorithm must improve the 3-D solutions over time. As a step toward such algorithm, we present a method for recovering 3-D motion and structure from a given time-varying 2-D velocity vector field. The surface of the object in the scene is assumed to be locally planar. It is also assumed that 3-D velocity vectors are piecewise constant over three consecutive frames (or two snapshots of flow field). Our formulation relates 3-D motion and object geometry with the optical flow vector as well as its spatial and temporal derivatives. The linearization parameters, or equivalently, the first-order flow approximation (in space and time) is sufficient to recover rigid body motion and local surface structure from the local instantaneous flow field. We also demonstrate, through a sensitivity analysis carried out for synthetic and natural motions in space, that 3-D motion can be recovered reliably.
This paper shows a new magnetic field analysis of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) machines with an axial overhang structure wherein the rotor axial length exceeds that of the stator. The rotor overhang used to increase torque density of the radial flux machine is difficult to analyze because of extra consideration of axial direction, and thus it is general for machine designer to take 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) capable of considering both radial and axial complicated geometry in the machine. However, it requires too much computing time for preliminary design especially for optimization process. Therefore, in this paper a 2-D analytic method using a lumped magnetic circuit model (LMCM) is proposed to overcome the problem. For the analysis of overhang effect, the magnetic circuit is separated and solved from overhang and non-overhang regions respectively. For the validation of proposed concept, 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) is performed. From the analysis results, it is shown that our new proposed method presents good performance in terms of calculating electromotive force (EMF) and torque within a short time. Therefore, the proposed model can be useful in design of IPM with an overhang structure.

This paper describes the result of study on measurement of displacement of structure by means of non-contacting method, close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera. To apply close-range digital photogrammetry to displacement measurement of structure, correction of lens distortion that interferes geometrical analysis has been carried out and then measuring displacement was performed on load regulated-rahmen. For enhanced applicability of displacement measurement, MIDAS which is a structural analysis program was used for modeling and the result was taken from comparative analysis. As a result of the study, it is showed that close-range digital photogrammetry could supplement several weaknesses of LVDT and cable displacement meter and, especially, economy in the perspective of measuring time could be realized. Close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera can be applied to the area where requires visual analysis such as 3D modeling of structure, profile replication of measurement of structure as well as measurement of displacement of structure.
The success of a three-dimensional blockbuster movie, AVARTA, brought an public attention on the expansion of three-dimensional computer applications, and it allows experts predict further hardware technology developments to support the such applications. Futhermore, an internet based infra structure and three-dimensional structure, third generation network community, advanced computer networks have influenced advancement in computer technology within the 3D game industry and the spread of 2D computer animation technologies. This advancement of computer technologies allow the industry to overcome a limitation of generating cultural design contexts existed within 2D network community. However, despite of the expansion of 2D and 3D computer technologies, a limitation of analysing designers' intentions on morphology of digital contents and user interface still exists. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze (1) present conditions of the 3D industry and (2) protocols of designers' cognitive design processes based on their design communication, contents, and tools. Analysis was conducted based on literature reviews and case precedent analyses. For the analysis, a 2D Avarta sketch character was designed and then applied into a 3D game system. Observations how designers solve cultural problem within the structure via Avarta were conducted. Outcomes were then coded for further analysis.

A simultaneous measurement system that can analyze the flow-structure interactions(FSI) has been constructed and analyses on the flow field and the motion field of a floating cylinder was made. The three-dimensional vector fields around the cylinder are measured by 3D-PTV technique while the motion of the cylinder forced by the flow field is measured simultaneously with a newly developed motion tracking algorithm(bidirectional tracking algorithm). The cylinder is pendant in the working fluid of a water channel and the surface of the working fluid is forced sinusoidal to make the cylinder bounced. The interaction between the flow fields and the cylinder motion is examined quantitatively.

Voronoi diagrams have been known for numerous important applications in science and engineering including CAD/CAM. Especially, the Voronoi diagram for 3D spheres has been known as very useful tool to analyze spatial structural properties of molecules or materials modeled by a set of spherical atoms. In this paper, we present two algorithms, the edge-tracing algorithm and the region-expansion algorithm, for constructing the Voronoi diagram of 3D spheres and applications to protein structure analysis. The basic scheme of the edge-tracing algorithm is to follow Voronoi edges until the construction is completed in O(mn) time in the worst-case, where m and n are the numbers of edges and spheres, respectively. On the other hand, the region-expansion algorithm constructs the desired Voronoi diagram by expanding Voronoi regions for one sphere after another via a series of topology operations, starting from the ordinary Voronoi diagram for the centers of spheres. It turns out that the region-expansion algorithm also has the worst-case time complexity of O(mn). The Voronoi diagram for 3D spheres can play key roles in various analyses of protein structures such as the pocket recognition, molecular surface construction, and protein-protein interaction interface construction.
