The purpose of this study is to analyze heterogeneous distribution of branch-like structure at downstream region of inner spray. The previous many studies about diesel spray structure have yet stayed in the analysis of 2-D structure, and there are very few of informations which are concerned with 3-D analysis of the structure. The heterogeneous distribution of droplets in inner spray affects the mixture formation of diesel spray, and also the combustion characteristics of the diesel engines. Therefore, in order to investigate 3-D structure of evaporative spray the laser beam of 2-D plane was used in this study. Liquid fuel was injected from a single-hole nozzle (l/d=5) into a constant-volume vessel under high pressure and temperature in order to visualize the spray phenomena. The incident laser beam was offset on the central axis. From the images analysis taken by offset of laser beam, we examine formation mechanism of heterogeneous distribution by vortex flow at the downstream of the diesel spray. As the experimental results, the branch-like structure formed heterogeneous distribution of the droplets consists of high concentration of vapor phase in the periphery of droplets and spray tip of branch-like structure. Also the 3-D spatial structure of the evaporative diesel spray can be verified by images obtained from 2-D measurement methods.

In this paper, we classify 3D printer technologies which are becoming a recent issue, and analyzed the features and limitations of the technology. As a result, we can see that there is no 3D printer technology that can produce a completely free-curved architectural structure. In order to construct a completely free-curved architectural structure with a 3D printer, it is necessary to draw up a new concept technique that complements the drawbacks of the two methods.

Analysis of structures which are composed of numerous repeated unit structures can be simplified by using homogenized properties. If the unit structure is repeated in one direction, the whole structure may be regarded as a beam. Once the effective stiffness is obtained from the analysis of the unit structure in a proper way, the effort for the detail modeling of the global structure is not required, and the real structure can be replaced simply with a beam. This study proposes a kinematical periodicity constraint to be imposed on the FE model of the unit structure, which improves the accuracy of the effective stiffness. The method is employed to a one dimensionally arrayed 3D structure containing periodically repeated un-symmetric holes. It is demonstrated that the deformation behavior of the homogenized beam agrees well with that of the real structure.
Elastomeric o-ring performance and structure when subjected to a foreign object is studied using finite element analysis (FEA). Elastomeric o-rings have been studied using 2D analysis for a long time. Contact pressure is an important factor in o-ring design. When contact pressure is lower than applied pressure, leaking, vibration, and noise can occur; resulting in decreased output. In this study, we compared 2D and 3D analyses of elastomeric o-rings. Similar results were shown for 2D and 3D contact pressure. However, when an o-ring encounters foreign object matter, 3D analysis is required because contact pressure in every direction needs to be considered. We determined the influence of foreign matter on o-ring performance and structure by analyzing 10 cases with different clearances in a 3D model. Therefore, an o-ring encountering foreign object matter must be analyzed in 3D with the result included in the o-ring design.

A modular underground arch structure using steel and concrete has been proposed as a structure that has a simple construction process and can effectively resist cross-sectional forces generated during construction and use. Structural behavior of modular underground arch was evaluated about span length less than 15m through 3D structural analysis and test. In general, 2D and 3D structural analysis methods may be applied for structural analysis such as underground arch and tunnels. However, if a 2D or 3D structural analysis method is applied to evaluate the structural safety of a modular underground arch structure, it is difficult to model for structural analysis and it may take an excessively long time to interpret. Therefore, it may not be reasonable as a structural analysis method for considering the structural safety and earth pressure in the design process of a modular underground arch structure. In addition, when a modular underground arch structure is configured for span lengths to which the predetermined cross-section is applicable, it may be reasonable to evaluate only the safety of the structure and cross-section according to the cross-section and load conditions. Therefore, in this study, a structural analysis model using frame elements was proposed for efficient structural safety evaluation. In addition, structural analysis results of the 2D structural analysis model and the simplified analysis model using frame elements were compared, and the structural safety of the modular underground arch structure for a span length of 20m was evaluated with a simplified analysis method.
This paper presents a double excited three degree-of-freedom (3DOF) motor. The proposed 3DOF motor is designed with a laminated structure, making it easy to manufacture. In addition, it has windings on the stator and rotor, and does not require an expensive permanent magnet. We explain the structure, principle of motion, and design of the proposed motor, and perform an analysis of the static characteristics using the two- and three-dimensional finite element methods (3D FEM). The feasibility of 3D FEM analysis is confirmed by comparing the 3D FEM analysis and experimental results for the rolling and pitching motion. We also confirm the occurrence of holding torque in every motion.
Acoording to improvement of HTOS (high throughput organic synthesis) and HTS (high throughput screening) technique, the CoMFA (comparative molecular field analysis), CoMSIA (comparative molecular similarity indeces analysis) and molecular HQSAR (hologram quantitative structure-activity relationship) analysis techniques as methodology of computer assisted molecular design (CAMD) were introduced generally and summarized for some application cases.

As BIM application continues to increase in civil engineering, in this study, 3D information model for RC(Reinforced Concrete) bridge pylon was developed and verified its effectiveness at the structural-design stage. To define 3D information model of RC A-Type pylon, characteristics of pylon were analyzed and 3D model structure was constructed. The 3D information model, one of the core product of BIM, manages all information generated during all life-cycle of a structure and consequently maximizes the efficiency of utilizing information. Also, this study proposes interface module between input data in structural analysis and 3D model of RC pylon. The module can create the input data for non-linear structural analysis. It is essential to study on method of developing 3D information model and propose a structural analysis model by utilizing 3D model for the effective use of BIM techniques in construction industry. The results of this study can be used as the base data for developing the 3D information model of RC pylon in the structural analysis field.

In this paper, collision analysis of the full rake for the Next Generation High-speed EMU is conducted using a 3D/1D hybrid model, which combines 3-dimensional (3D) front-end structure of finite element model and 1-dimensional (1D) multi-body dynamics model in order to analyze train collision with a standard 3D deformable obstacle. The crush forces, passengers' accelerations and energy absorptions of a full rake train can be easily obtained through a simulation of a 1D dynamics model composed of nonlinear springs, dampers and masses. Also the obtained simulation results are very similar to those of a 3D model if an overriding behavior does not occur during collision. The standard obstacle in TSI regulation has been changed from a rigid body to a deformable body, and therefore 3D collision simulations should be conducted because their simulation results depends on the front-end structure of a train. According to the obstacle collision analysis of this study, the obstacle collides with the driver's upper structure after overriding over the front-end module. The 3D/1D hybrid model is effective to evaluate a main energy-absorbing module that is frequently changed during design process and reduce the need time of the modeling and analysis when compared to a 3D full car body.
