  • In order to design and develop a ubiquitous game, it is necessary to develop a natural and flexible interface between the real world and the virtual world, based on social and physical context awareness. We design user interface model and the tactile sensing system that performs virtual interaction and collection of the sensor data. It is sensitive so the collected data should be filtered, rearranged and analyzed. This information is quite different from stylus input, keyboard, button or mouse for interaction. We detect kicked 3D force position of a ball, moment of area, moment of inertia and modified ball shape using tactile sensing system and analyzed data. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach is desirable and robust as well as the results can be used realistic actions and reactions considering attack force and to make interesting environments for ubiquitous game.

  • Since the multi-view video is a set of video sequences captured by multiple array cameras for the same three-dimensional scene, it can provide multiple viewpoint images using geometrical manipulation and intermediate view generation. Although multi-view video allows us to experience more realistic feeling with a wide range of images, the amount of data to be processed increases in proportion to the number of cameras. Therefore, we need to develop efficient coding methods. One of the possible approaches to multi-view video coding is to generate an intermediate image using view interpolation method and to use the interpolated image as an additional reference frame. The previous view interpolation method for multi-view video coding employs fixed size block matching over the pre-determined disparity search range. However, if the disparity search range is not proper, disparity error may occur. In this paper, we propose an efficient view interpolation method using initial disparity estimation, variable block-based estimation, and pixel-level estimation using adjusted search ranges. In addition, we propose a multi-view video coding method based on H.264/AVC to exploit the intermediate image. Intermediate images have been improved about $1{\sim}4dB$ using the proposed method compared to the previous view interpolation method, and the coding efficiency have been improved about 0.5 dB compared to the reference model.

  • Maturity is expressed as the integral of time and temperature of concrete above a datum temperature. The maturity concept proposes that concrete of the same mix at the same maturity has the same strength, whatever combination of temperature and time makes up that maturity. In this study, the Nurse-Saul function which was proposed to account for the effects of temperature and time on strength developrnent is used in computing maturity. After existing various functions are considered to relate concrete strength to the maturity value, new strength-maturity function is proposed. Tests ;ire conducted in order to determine d datum temperature and compare prechction value with measured concrete strength. The constants in proposed prediction equation are determined from test results, and the equation is adopted to predict the strength of slab. The slab was cast in the laboratory from the same batch of mold, and cores are cut from slab in order to estimate the actual strength. These values are used to compare with predicted value. The present study allows more realistic determination of early-age strength of concrete and can be efficiently used to control the quality in actual construction.

  • MODFLOW, 3-D finite difference code, is widely used to model groundwater flow and has been used to assess the effect of excavations on the groundwater system due to construction of subways and mountain tunnels. The results of numerical analysis depend on boundary conditions, initial conditions, conceptual models and hydrogeological properties. Therefore, its accuracy can only be enhanced using more realistic and field oriented input parameters. In this study, SA(simulated annealing) was used to integrate hydraulic conductivities from a few of injection tests with geophysical reference images. The realizations of hydraulic conductivity random field are obtained and then groundwater flows in each geostatistically equivalent media are analyzed with a numerical simulation. This approach can give probabilistic results of groundwater flow modeling considering the uncertainty of hydrogeological medium. In other words, this approach makes it possible to quantify the propagation of uncertainty of hydraulic conductivities into groundwater flow.

  • The object of this study is a development of a stochastic user equilibrium transit assignment algorithm for multiple user classes considering stochastic characteristics and heterogeneous attributes of passengers. The existing transit assignment algorithms have limits to attain realistic results because they assume a characteristic of passengers to be equal. Although one group with transit information and the other group without it have different trip patterns, the past studies could not explain the differences. For overcoming the problems, we use following methods. First, we apply a stochastic transit assignment model to obtain the difference of the perceived travel cost between passengers and apply a multiple user class assignment model to obtain the heterogeneous qualify of groups to get realistic results. Second, we assume that person trips have influence on the travel cost function in the development of model. Third, we use a C-logit model for solving IIA(independence of irrelevant alternatives) problems. According to repetition assigned trips and equivalent path cost have difference by each group and each path. The result comes close to stochastic user equilibrium and converging speed is very fast. The algorithm of this study is expected to make good use of evaluation tools in the transit policies by applying heterogeneous attributes and OD data.

  • As recent advances in science, technology and performance requirements of the weapons system are getting highly diversified and complex, the performance requirements also get stringent and strict. Moreover, the weapons system should be intimately connected with other systems such as watchdog system, command and control system, C4I system, etc. However, a tremendous amount of time, cost and risk being spent to acquire new weapons system, and not being diminished compared to the rapid pace of its development speed. Defense Modeling and Simulation(M&S) comes into the spotlight as an alternative to overcoming these difficulties as well as constraints. In this paper, we propose the development process of virtual test framework based on the synthetic environment as a tool to analyze the effectiveness of the weapons system of underwater engagement model. To prove the proposed concept, we develop the test-bed of virtual test using Delta3D simulation engine, which is open source S/W. We also design the High Level Architecture and Real-time Infrastructure(HLA/RTI) based Federation for the interoperation with heterogeneous simulators. The significance of the study entails (1)the rapid and easy development of simulation tools that are customized for the Korean Theater of War; (2)the federation of environmental entities and the moving equations of the combat entities to manifest a realistic simulation.

  • Rock sheds are a type of rockfall protection facility that is installed on the road near steep slopes, where large amount of rockfall is expected. Rock sheds are generally designed to resist approximately 200 kJ to 3,000 kJ of rockfall energy. In a previous study, a new type rock shed structure having a concrete-filled tube (CFT) main frame was proposed. By using CFT as the main frame in a rock shed, rapid construction is possible. Additionally, high load carrying capacity and ductility can be achieved. The behavior of the proposed rock shed structure was studied via elastic analysis with the equivalent static load of rockfall energy as in a previous study. However, it is necessary to investigate the behavior of the proposed rock shed in more detail with a full 3D finite element (FE) model considering realistic rockfall load. The FE model for the CFT rock shed main frame was developed first in this study. Then, the resistance of the CFT rock shed main frame Under ultimate rockfall energy was investigated.

  • There exist different kinds of aircrafts, such as conventional airplane, rotorcraft, fighter, and unmanned aerial vehicle. Their shape and feature are dependent upon their own assigned mission. One of the fundamental analyses performed during the aircraft design is the structural analysis. It becomes more complicated and requires severe computations because of the recent complex trends in aircraft structure. In order for efficiency in the structural analysis, a simplified approach, such as equivalent beam or plate model, is preferred. However, it is not clear which analysis will be appropriate to analyze the realistic configuration, such as an aircraft wing, i.e., between an equivalent beam and plate analysis. It is necessary to assess the limitation for both the one-dimensional beam analysis and the two-dimensional plate theory. Thus, in this paper, the static structural analysis results obtained by EDISON solvers were compared with the three-dimensional results obtained from MSC NASTRAN. Before that, EDISON program was verified by comparing the results with those from MSC NASTRAN program and other analytic solutions.

  • Several issues regarding the structural idealization of steel buildings with perimeter moment resisting steel frames (MRSFs) and interior gravity frames (GFs) are studied. Results indicate that the contribution of GFs to the lateral structural resistance may be significant. The contribution increases when the stiffness of the connection of the GFs is considered and is larger for inelastic than for elastic behavior. The interstory shears generally increase when the connections stiffness is taken into account. Resultant stresses at some base columns of MRSFs also increase in some cases but to a lesser degree. For columns of the GFs, however, the increment is significant. Results also indicate that modeling the building as planes frames may result in larger interstory shears and displacements and resultant stresses than those obtained from the more realistic 3-D formulation. These differences may be much larger when semi-rigid (SR) connections are considered. The conservativism is more for resultant stresses. The differences observed in the behaviour of each structural representation are mainly due to a) the elements that contribute to strength and stiffness and b) the dynamics characteristics of each structural representation. It is concluded that, if the structural system under consideration is used, the three-dimensional model should be used in seismic analysis, the GFs should be considered as part of the lateral resistance system, and the stiffness of the connections should be included in the design of the GFs. Otherwise, the capacity of gravity frames may be overestimated while that of MRSFs may be underestimated.
