Tangible user interfaces have attracted strong attention in the HCI(Human and Computer Interface) community for their ability to take advantage of skills humans develop in the real world. We are developing "tangible media aided design system" which employs physical objects i.e., brick as interfacing media for 3D graphic modeling. This system is targeting for persons who are afraid of experiencing 3D graphic modeling and virtual space, or have a sense of reluctance in approaching to them. Our approach suggests the easiest way for people to experience computer system and virtual space carefree while developing and improving their space sense. This work is one of initial explorations of media aided design system using tangible user interfaces.
Three-dimensional (3D) printing has been particularly widely adopted in medical fields. Application of the 3D printing technique has even been extended to bio-cell printing for 3D tissue/organ development, the creation of scaffolds for tissue engineering, and actual clinical application for various medical parts. Of various medical fields, craniofacial plastic surgery is one of areas that pioneered the use of the 3D printing concept. Rapid prototype technology was introduced in the 1990s to medicine via computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing. To investigate the current status of 3D printing technology and its clinical application, a systematic review of the literature was conducted. In addition, the benefits and possibilities of the clinical application of 3D printing in craniofacial surgery are reviewed, based on personal experiences with more than 500 craniofacial cases conducted using 3D printing tactile prototype models.
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the in vivo accuracy of flapless, computer-aided implant placement by comparing the three-dimensional (3D) position of planned and placed implants through an analysis of linear and angular deviations. Methods: Implant position was virtually planned using 3D planning software based on the functional and aesthetic requirements of the final restorations. Computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacture technology was used to transfer the virtual plan to the surgical environment. The 3D position of the planned and placed implants, in terms of the linear deviations of the implant head and apex and the angular deviations of the implant axis, was compared by overlapping the pre- and postoperative computed tomography scans using dedicated software. Results: The comparison of 14 implants showed a mean linear deviation of the implant head of 0.56 mm (standard deviation [SD], 0.23), a mean linear deviation of the implant apex of 0.64 mm (SD, 0.29), and a mean angular deviation of the long axis of $2.42^{\circ}$ (SD, 1.02). Conclusions: In the present study, computer-aided flapless implant surgery seemed to provide several advantages to the clinicians as compared to the standard procedure; however, linear and angular deviations are to be expected. Therefore, accurate presurgical planning taking into account anatomical limitations and prosthetic demands is mandatory to ensure a predictable treatment, without incurring possible intra- and postoperative complications.

In this paper, a novel tissue engineering scaffold design method based on triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) is proposed. After generating the hexahedral elements for a 3D anatomical shape using the distance field algorithm, the unit cell libraries composed of triply periodic minimal surfaces are mapped into the subdivided hexahedral elements using the shape function widely used in the finite element method. In addition, a heterogeneous implicit solid representation method is introduced to design a 3D (Three-dimensional) bio-mimetic scaffold for tissue engineering from a sequence of computed tomography (CT) medical image data. CT image of a human spine bone is used as the case study for designing a 3D bio-mimetic scaffold model from CT image data.
Designers, who design industry products, use CAD(Computer Aided Design) tools for making new design and looking around virtual 3D models. Hand-drawings and sketches show only one viewpoint limiting 3D perception. However, CAD system that provides automation and multiple view points, can help to save time and cost. Accordingly, we developed Augmented Reality(AR) and Rapid Prototyping(RP) based product design system that is interactive and realistic This AR based design system utilize mockups that are made of urethane and styrofoam where as users change 3D model's color, texture and user interface. These interactive ways help to evaluate design more instinctively.

In this paper, we explain the DMU (digital mockup) system based on the PDM system. Most manufacturing companies are trying to develop a competitive product by increasing the quality, shortening time to market (TIM) and reducing the cost of a product. Some technologies such as SE (System Engineering), CE (Concurrent Engineering), QFD (Quality Function Development), CI (Cost Innovation) and some systems such as CAD (Computer-Aided Design), CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering), CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), PDM (Product Data Management) and visualization system are adopted for these purposes. Specially, DMU system utilizes a visualization system that shows the 3D shape of a product on the computer and it gives a quick intuition to a person whether he/she is an engineer or not. It also can induce the effects of CE and QFD. SO, 0 company is developing a DMU system integrating CAD, visualization and PDM system. The main feature of the developed DMU system is that it is entirely integrated with PDM system, which means that the 3D shape of any part or assembly can be retrieved through PDM system. The DMU system will change the development process, which will increase the competitiveness of a developed product.

Concurrent Engineering(CE) has presented new possibilities for successful product development by incorporating various product life-cycle functions from the earlier stage of design. In the product design, geometric representation is vital not only in its traditional role as a means of communicating design information but also in its role as a means of externalizing designer's thought process by visualizing the design product. During the last dozens of years, there has been extraordinary development of computer-aided tools intended to generate, present or communicate 3D models. However, there has not been comparable progress in the development of 3D-CAD systems intended to represent and manipulate a variety of product life-cycle information in a consistent manner. This paper proposes a novel concept, Minus Volume (MV), to incorporate various design information relevant to product lift-cycle functions. MV is a functional shape that is extracted from a design object within a bounding box. A prototype 3D-CAD system is implemented based on the MV concept and illustrated with the successful implementation of concurrent design and manufacturing.

In the previous research, the authors proposed a novel concept called Minus Volume (MV) to incorporate various design information relevant to product life-cycle functions. This paper proposes the use of the MV concept for the collaborative design environment, where many team members are geographically distributed over the networked environment, including Internet, Intranet, WWW, etc. A prototype 3D-CAD system is implemented based on the MV concept and illustrated with the successful implementation of collaborative design example.
3D설계는 CAD(Computer Aided Design) 소프트웨어인 Pro Engineer를 이용하였다. 설계된 3D 도면을 Ansys Multiphysics로 불러들여 구조 및 강도해석을 하였고 CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) 소프트웨어인 Icepak으로 열유동해석을 수행하였다.

In this paper, a 3-D computer-aided die design process was developed for automobile rear frame with drawing, trimming, flanging, cam-piercing and piercing for tool design. The tool design has been done using Pro/Engineer on a personal computer. It is composed of four stations. The goal of this research is to apply each of stations for the standard tool specification to each station.
