3D Face Modeling from a Frontal Face Image by Mesh-Warping (메쉬 워핑에 의한 정면 영상으로부터의 3D 얼굴 모델링)

  • Recently the 3D modeling techniques were developed rapidly due to rapid development of computer vision, computer graphics with the excellent performance of hardware. With the advent of a variety of 3D contents, 3D modeling technology becomes more in demand and it's quality is increased. 3D face models can be applied widely to such contents with high usability. In this paper, a 3D face modeling is attempted from a given single 2D frontal face image. To achieve the goal, we thereafter the feature points using AAM are extracted from the input frontal face image. With the extracted feature points we deform the 3D general model by 2-pass mesh warping, and also the depth extraction based on intensity values is attempted to. Throughout those processes, a universal 3D face modeling method with less expense and less restrictions to application environment was implemented and it's validity was shown through experiments.

  • Augmented reality techniques have been increasingly employed in the textile and fashion industry as well as computer graphics sectors. Three-dimensional virtual clothing CAD systems have also been widely used in the textile industries and academic institutes. Motion tracking techniques are grafted together in the 3D and augmented reality techniques in order to develop the virtual three-dimensional clothing and fitting systems in the fashion and textile industry sectors. In this study, three-dimensional virtual clothing sample has been prepared using a 3D virtual clothing CAD along with a 3D scanning and reconstruction system. Motion of the user has been captured through an RGB-D sensor system, and the virtual clothing fitted on the user's body is allowed to move along with the captured motion flow of the user. Acutal fabric specimens are selected for the material characterization. This study is a primary step toward building a comprehensive system for the user to experience interactively virtual clothing under real environment.

H-Anim-based Definition of Character Animation Data (캐릭터 애니메이션 데이터의 H-Anim 기반 정의)

  • Currently, there are many software tools that can generate 3D human figure models and animations based on the advancement of computer graphics technology. However, we still have problems in interoperability of human data models in different applications because common data models do not exist. To address this issue, the Web3D Consortium and the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC24 WG6 have developed the H-Anim standard. However, H-Anim does not include human motion data formats although it defines the structure of a human figure. This research is intended to obtain interoperable human animation by defining the data for human motions in H- Anim figures. In this paper, we describe a syntactic method to define motion data for the H-Anim figure and its implementation. In addition, we describe a method of specifying motion parameters necessary for generating animations by using an arbitrary character model data set created by a general graphics tool.

Development of Data Automation Algorithm for GIS Service in Universal 3D Graphics Engine (범용 3D 그래픽 엔진의 GIS 정보 서비스를 위한 데이터 자동변환 알고리즘 개발)

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) is a method of expressing objects in a space. Currently, many research and developments are being conducted to implement 3D GIS. In previous studies, 3D GIS applications have been developed using Unity 3D, which is a 3D engine with good development accessibility. However, it requires manual work to enter various formats of GIS data, making it difficult to immediately reflect GIS data that change frequently. To improve this problem, this study developed a method for automatically reading and outputting various GIS data from the existing Unity 3D application. The improved application could read Satellite Images, Aerial Photographs, Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and Shapefiles with no transformation through other commercial programs, and they could be implemented as 3D objects. This study automated the GIS data conversion which had been manually performed and as a result, the manpower, time, and resources required for 3D GIS implementation can be saved.

  • The Master-Slave manipulator is the generally used remote handling equipment in the hot cell, in which the high level radioactive materials such as spent fuels are handled. To analyze the motion and to implement the training system by virtual reality technology, the simulator for M-S manipulator using the computer graphics is developed. The parts are modelled in 3-D graphics, assembled, and kinematics are assigned. The inverse kinematics of the manipulator is defined, and the slave of manipulator is coupled with master by the manipulator's specification. Also, the virtual workcell is implemented in the graphical environment which is the same as the real environment. This graphic simulator of manipulator can be effectively used in designing of the maintenance processes for the hot cell equipment and enhance the reliability of the spent fuel management.

  • Low-Poly는 비교적 적은 수의 Polygon을 가진 3D Computer Graphics의 Polygon Mesh이다. 본 논문의 VR·PC 기반 어드벤처 게임 '하늘섬의 비밀'에 이러한 Low-Poly 그래픽이 적용되어 비현실적이고 감성적인 스토리의 신비로운 분위기를 극대화 하는 효과를 발생시킨다. 또한 Low-Poly 그래픽은 VR 게임에서 현실과 가상세계를 구분하지 못해 생기는 괴리감과 이로 인해 오는 어지러움을 줄이고 사용자의 몰입도를 높여준다.

Oriental Black Ink Rendering System (수묵화 렌더링 시스템)

  • This paper presents an automatic rendering system for 3D meshes which generates images in the style of oriental black ink painting. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of black ink painting and present some requirements for our black ink rendering system. Then we survey the steps used by artists to create black ink paintings. Based on the analysis of drawing steps, we propose a black ink rendering system which reproduces the key features of black ink painting through three sub-systems: the feature line layer, the interior shading layer, and the media layer. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce new methods which generate realistic and natural results very fast while any simulation methods are not used to satisfy real-time performance. We describe our implementation of each of these, and demonstrate our results in the major three styles of black ink painting: the outline style, the spontaneous style, and the outline-spontaneous style. Our system renders 3D models of moderate complexity at interactive frame rates. As a result, we expect that our system can be directly applied to real-time applications such as computer games and virtual environments.

Dragging Body Parts in 3D Space to Direct Animated Characters (3차원 공간 상의 신체 부위 드래깅을 통한 캐릭터 애니메이션 제어)

  • We present a new interactive technique for directing the motion sequences of an animated character by dragging its specific body part to a desired location in the three-dimensional virtual environment via a hand motion tracking device. The motion sequences of our character is synthesized by reordering subsequences of captured motion data based on a well-known graph representation. For each new input location, our system samples the space of possible future states by unrolling the graph into a spatial search tree, and retrieves one of the states at which the dragged body part of the character gets closer to the input location. We minimize the difference between each pair of successively retrieved states, so that the user is able to anticipate which states will be found by varying the input location, and resultantly, to quickly reach the desired states. The usefulness of our method is demonstrated through experiments with breakdance, boxing, and basketball motion data.

An Approximation Technique for Real-time Rendering of Phong Reflection Model with Image-based Lighting (영상 기반 조명을 적용한 퐁 반사 모델의 실시간 렌더링을위한 근사 기법)

  • In this paper, we introduce a real-time method to render a 3D scene using image-based lighting. Previous approaches for image-based lighting focused on diffuse reflection and mirror-like specular reflection. In this paper, we provide a simple preprocessing approach to efficiently approximate Phong reflection model, which has been used for computer graphics applications for several decades. For diffuse reflection, we generate a texture map for diffuse reflection by integrating the source image in preprocessing step, similarly to the previous approaches. We adopt the similar idea to produce a set of specular reflection maps for various material shininess. By doing this, we can render a dynamic scene without high computational complexity or numerous texture map access.

Hardware-Accelerated Multipipe Parallel Rendering of Large Data Streams

  • As a result of the recent explosive growth of scientific data, extremely large volume datasets have become increasingly commonplace. While several texture-based volume rendering algorithms have been proposed, most of them focused on volumes smaller than the hardware's available texture memory. This paper presents a new parallel volume rendering scheme for very large static and time-varying data on a multipipe system architecture. Our scheme subdivides large volumes dynamically into smaller bricks, and assigns them adaptively to graphics pipes to minimize the costs of texture swapping. With the new method, Phong shaded images can be easily created by computing the gradients on the fly and using the color matrix feature of OpenGL. We report experimental results on an SGI Onyx2 for the various large datasets.
